@megawutt Most of Russia is in Asia, it's divided between Asia and Europe with the Ural mountains generally considered it's unofficial European border, east of the Urals is Asia.
Besides I think he was referring to political Europe as opposed to natural continental Europe, as with Russia up to the Urals included it would then be much bigger than the Sahara.
It seems, That even if they had all the water they could carry from the start, They still wouldn`t have made it, In real terms of effort, They travel more than 70 miles, Anybody who`s walked on a pebble or sandy beach knows how much harder it is than solid ground, Also this does highlight the lack of quality training the American military received 4 years into the second world war
Doesn't get mentioned here, but if I was going off into the outback, I would refuse to leave without a sat phone and a distress beacom like they have on ships. Dying of dehydration like these poor sods sounds like a bloody nightmare.
I once spent a month camping in the Mojave Desert during summer. It was over 130 degrees during the day and I couldn't walk 100 yards without drinking a bottle of water. I can't imagine how these poor bastards could have survived 8 days like that with only a canteen each; unbelievable.
Does anyone know if that's the original diary in his hand or just a duplicate?

When he says you can fit the whole of Europe in, does that include Russia?
OverFjell 9 months ago
@OverFjell russia is in asia
TheBenji2k10 8 months ago
@TheBenji2k10 It's part of Eurasia, it's bicontinental, I always assumed it was more on the European side rather than Asian

@TheBenji2k10
Russia is the biggest and most populous European country. Look at the map.
megawutt 8 months ago
@megawutt hes talking about europe fitting in the sahara, russia is seperate and could fit quite a few sahara deserts in it
sorry i dont normally argue i just felt the need to correct you

@TheBenji2k10
I was reffering to your "russia is in asia" which is completely wrong. 40% of the European continent is Russian terrritory. So I stand correct.
Obvously Ray is comparing the EU with Sahara because Europe as a whole is bigger than Sahara.

@OverFjell dont think so, Russia is the biggest country on earth.
hitachi088 1 month ago
@OverFjell I don't think he meant Russia, I think he may have meant political Europe, ie. the EU, of which Russia is not a part.
