  • when small cod are worked worked their colour changes and the stripe gets more obvious as they go lighter in colour, if you have ever caught small murray cod you will sometimes see fish even around 40cm with the strip, in waters that dont have trout cod so it cant be mistaken !

  • yes baby murrays have the strip through the eye! Ask any1 who has any idea about cod and you be proven wrong my friend, go have a look at a pet shop and you will see i am right !

  • thats a trout cod, not a murray cod, murrays dont have that stripe near the eye, and trout cods are prohibted.

  • She was 15cm, i tried to get her breeding and bought what i thought was a male. They are sooo bloody hard to sex, it was a smaller female which killed her :(

  • the gudgeon one for sure and i have both of these fish what size is the purple spotted gudgeon coz iv got a 15cm male

  • macking?

  • ...ambigua1 is 100% correct...one fish/tank...their "alfa"mentality would definitley be terminal for any introduced aquatica!

  • Awesome fish,

im going to get a few murray cod.

they will be outiside in a old 300l tub, with alot of surface area will i need a aerator?

    cheers

  • u will only have 1 murray cod alive, i suggest get one, they will fight 100% to the death.

300l is not that big, i would get some air in it 4 sure.

  • Awesome video mate, love the cod and gudgeon.

  • here is another vid of a small Cod with the same looking markings with a solid black stripe, again not a Trout Cod, wink

Even with the glass glear u can clearly see the stripe through the eye

  • ur right but he was pretty thin

my cods got a belly like a whale

  • it is a trout cod i have a murray cod about that size and same colour but doesnt have the stripe on its eye

  • As i just said juvinile Cod have also have strips across the eye, do a bit of research and u will find out that is very true!

  • yes this is a trout cod

  • Not again with this rubbish.

People who know about Cod, all know that small Cod and Trout Cod look very similar when very young.

Just get over it all, i know i am right!

  • I hope you moved your purple spotted Gudgeon. They are locally extinct in SA, we even have a breeding program to try and keep them going!!!

  • not a month but he's been growing that big for the first 3 months and it is a murray

  • Mate if your Cod grows 4 cm a month he must be on steroids lol, they go through growth spurts they dont continuously grow at the same rate, that what i have noticed, and if your cod grows at that rate he will be leagl size in 14 months lol.

Baby Cod have the single strip too, he was 100% a Murray Cod

  • but he does have the stripe on his eye like a trout cod

  • they might be s different kind

my cod grows like 4 cm a month

  • he's defenintly a trout cod

  • I doubt it highly, i have had 3 Murray cod before they all looked the same, all the small Cod i have seen look like Cod trout Cod, plus it is illegal to sell trout Cod as they are a protected species, these cod have been from 3 different shops in the ACT.

  • But he does look like a trout cod

    Murray cod usually grow faster

  • sorry about tyson

  • Looks like a trout cod to me.

  • Yeah small Cod do look like trout cod, thank good they dont grow up to look like the ugly ducklings like the trouties ;)

And your growth question, i feed my fish heaps and he grew from 5cm to 16cm in around 6 months. He died yesterday :( i reckon from heat, then ultimately white spot from stress, RIP Tyson the Cod

I suggest you keep an eye on your water temp, try to make it stay 25deg and below on those really hot summer days, frozen water bottles would help a bit, to late for me though

  • my cod has survived temps up to 31 celsius and back down to 17 within two days..... they seem pretty tolerant of change

  • thanks how long do u reckon a 4cm cod will grow to about 12cm

  • how long is he in cm

  • about 18cm

  • Comment removed

  • how old is the cod and what do u feed him i have a 4cm cod and he eats whitebait peices

  • Hi there,

He is around a year old , he gets feed Raw Prawns like my other natives, and also small live fish.

  • Same tank just has a divider in it.

U can get heaps in canberra in the fish shops.

    Regards,

    Romen

  • Are they in seperate tanks now.

How have you got a Purple Spotted Gudgen. I thought as an endangered species they would not be avaliable for the general public.

  • How kewl...The Cod kicked arse!We had to remove our Gudeon into its own tank after it killed 70% of our fish, then the Oscar killed it.
