theres a big difference when roddick beat federer in 2003 toronto and this. federer beat himself on this one, he made like 6 unforced errors just in the two games on this video. In 2003, Roddick actually beat Federer straight up. I wish that andy would come back.

Roddick's problem has always been his rather one-dimensional game. He's improved a lot on adding more depth and variety to his repertoire but it still pales in comparison to Federer and probably always will. Nadal too started off very one-dimensional, he recognized and admitted this very early on and worked his ass off to add more aspects to his game.

he's always mentally strong now. if he wasnt he would not have made it 7-6, 3-6, 14-16 after what everyone calls a choke in the 2nd set. he made it despairingly close. that showed how mentally tough he is

Good point. Yeah, after that 2nd set it must have been hard to get it together. But you could really tell during some points throughout that match that he cracked under pressure...you don't really see any of that from Federer .. . so there's a difference.

I agree, but I think he has trouble when he's close to winning. It's almost like he doesn't believe he can beat Federer. He's a master of staying in a match after defeat, and when it looks like he's not doing well, but when he's a couple shots away from winning, (against Federer, at least) he can't hold it together.

That being said, I'm a huge Roddick fan.
