Man what happened? Don't tell me - I will always miss the steel slide guitar from a master of not just playing but how to help Neil create the majic, our majic man is gone, never sought out attention just gave us all he had Wow I just heard of our loss a couple of weeks ago - ...RIP...Brother
This is an incredible version of this song. The interplay between Neil and the harmonics/slide is pure magic.
This song really had nothing to do with communism. Rather, the potentially cold, cruel nature of capitalism and how people with the best intentions can still be robbed of their dreams.
One needs look no further than today's headlines to see about what Neil is singing.
I am pretty sure that is the same hat that he wore on the cover of his 'Freedom' album. I just looked at the Cd and it is just a star. I could be wrong, but I don't think there is anything communist about it. Someone correct me if I am wrong :-)
I think its about the time period imo. Its symbolic of the massacre at Tianneman square... I think its in support of the students who peacefully demonstrated and paid with their lives
Under communism, no "man from the bank" would ever come to take "this old house away". That's the good news. The bad news is, under communism, you will never get anything better than "this old house". Because communism was "built on dreams" too, and many times even on nightmares... :)
I can't stop crying. What a great song. I LOVE this man and have for a long time. 20 + years now and many concerts. I have this on tape somewhere. It's been years sinse I heard it and I forgot how much i loved it. Thanks for posting it.
My BF and I just bought a house after years of trying. I would just die if we lost it now. In this economy, we too are having a hard time. I truely feel the heartbreak for anyone who has worked so hard for their dream ,only to have it all taken away.
This song is very relative to Our House right now, both me and my love of 32 years lost our jobs within 2 weeks of each other, DSS will keep us here another month, and hopefully, we or at least one of us middle aged persons will find a job!!!
We have 19 acres, 4 girls, and 4 grandsons.
I had to hear this song tonight!
I love you MR.Young, and I am from the South!!!!
Pray we can stay on our land we almost have paid off.
This is ( my old house) not this old house!

I think I can help:
