i have a HD 5870 amd x6 core 2,8 ghz good motherboard win 7 4 gig ram an crysis runs normaly at 30-55 but sometimes it drops to 15 or 10 for about 2 min is that normal
Okay, thanks but should I auto-tune overclock or leave at stock? I am afraid of ocing gpus only cpus i want to but do you know how to oc a amd anthlon x4 ?
@jackpwnage117 Um overlocking an Athlon II x4 should be the same as any other CPU, just go into the BIOS and do it... And I use MSI Afterburner for the GPU...
@bob333336 Idk where to go because I found where cpu voltage and stuff is but the multiplier is already at 20 which is the default so Idk if i can oc it which i think you can no matter what.
go for HD 5870, its almost the same as the GTX 470 (little better) but the GTX gets 10 times hotter wich dropps ure performance on long times, and the HD is like 200 bucks cheaper so ill get that:P
(btw ill get a HD 5870 in about a week from Club3D u should check it out =D)
yehh it is a nice opponent for the HD 5870 but it is more expensive and it works as an central heating installation for ure house when u run it full throttle:P
but yes its very matched to the HD 5870 but i just dont like the over heating and the litlle more expensice price for a slightly worser performance than the HD 5870...
@Arsjonisteman GTX460 is $200-250, in no way is it more expensive, and runs rather cool. I think you misread it as GTX480, yea I would NEVER recommend a GTX480. Only nVidia card I can recommend is the GTX460, it's just to epic. I have mine at 900MHz and it throws shots at my HD5870, and is faster than it in Crysis...
ill have my HD 5870 slightly overclocked to 950 mhz but i dont really care i now play alomst all my games at a steady 18 fps so if i get 30 fps at crysis with mahh new system ill be happy xD
@bob333336 Is the gtx 460 better than the Hd 5770? Also what about gtx 470? is it same at 480 in issues and heating? I have amd cpu so i think i should stick with ati because people tell me that Ati+ Amd and Nvidia+ Intel
@jackpwnage117 GTX460 is much better than HD5770, and an nicely overclocked GTX460 can perform the same as a GTX470, and a GTX460 @ 976Mhz is about as fast as a GTX480.
@jackpwnage117 Lol, oh the noobcakeness of this post. Yes it is. All depends on the res of the monitor and filters though. If you ran it at 2560x1600 with x8 AA, it will lag on highest settings, but if you ran it on 1680x1050 with 8x AA it should run ok on highest settings.
overclocking produces 3 fps more... is it worth it?? im a newbie at overclocking, getting my new com next week with a 5870. But i dont think im gonna overclock the 5870. I mean 5-6 fps more is not really worth it
In certain situation in this game, at the settings I was playing at, it could be the difference between lagging and not lagging. So it up to you depending on if you need it or not.
Thank you, but I think the HD5970 will out perform the GTX3xx... HD5870/50 might be out performed but that's cause its meant to meet the $300-400 range, and I don't think they will be out performed THAT badly...
@chakiller36 hmm youre saying that gtx 300 series are gonna have less performance then hd5970???(im not a nvidia fanboy im getting a hd5870 myself but just setting the facts straight?
I'm not 100% sure but Nvidia have announced some of the card features and its not to good. 5970 might outperform but still Nvidia got much better drivers and overall i think its better quality.(Nvidia)
How do they have better quality? LOL, I count count the number of people who had their GTX280's just stop working after folding for a little while. I'm not saying ATi is any better, as I have had my share of broken ATi cards as well, I think both suck when it comes to quality... ;)
And drivers are fine for ATi now, the 10.1 work perfect IMO.
I also get whats best, and GTX480 won't out perform my dual HD5870's, and my power supply (850W) wouldn't handle dual GTX480's, so I'm sticking with dual HD5870 cause I'm not spending money on a new power supply until this one stops working. xD
Even if it is fast, it still fails because its so hot, uses so much power, and its coming way to late. It may out perform an HD5870, but not when it comes to power usage to performance ratio....
and by the way how cards perform on games depends on the optimization and the company that was part of the dev-testing moments of the game be it with money or parts. nvidia has been very aggressive on that part.
Yes to the HD5870 because I can run X8 AA and get 30fps, at that res, on top of that better image quality, all the while using basically the same amount of power. And DX11 games are right around the corner, they already have a DX11 benchmark out, Dirt 2 is coming out in a few days, Stalker CoP is coming out Q1 2010, Crysis 2, and Grid 2 are coming out some time in 2010 as well, and both will support DX11. I think DX11 will take off faster than DX10 did, and as it seems, it is. :)
ou are correct. The image quality is better because of the SSAA which actually resamples the textures of the scene compare to normal AA which resamples polygon edges in wireframe. SSAA = MUCH better textures, softer lighting, and softer tree leaves. Crysis has some shitty tree leaves but SSAA ftw.
The 5870 also has better radial AF. Some would say perfect.
This is actually one of the best Crysis videos to watch for gameplay. Also, I find that because this video is in HD adding on the quality and graphics from your graphics card make this video look like it's an on-screen video. Nice!
The thing is x4 AA on my HD5870 looks much better than x16AA ever did on my GTX280 SLi, and x8 looks better than anything on any card. I still basically get the same FPS at x8AA as x4AA as well, and yes we have to wait for new drivers.
lol, "the big deal" is that you're wrong. Any search on google will tell you that the human eye can see past 60 frames per second quite clearly. If you don't believe it then play something old like counterstrike 1.6 and limit the fps to 30 and then 60 (it looks and feels much more than twice as smooth), and if you happen to have a CRT monitor you can try out even higher frame rates.
Thats because CS/CSS have horible coding so you need 100FPS in 1.6 to acctualy get REAL 60fps, and 300FPS in CS:S to get true 60FPS. Everything in the game, including the crosshairs refresh at a different rate than the frames them self do, so to compensate you must have much more FPS... I know, I play CS:S ALOOOOOOTTTTTT
I'm not getting this. When you have V-sync on, -all- of the frames that are counted are real frames produced by your monitor. I don't see how having a higher frame rate than your monitor's refresh rate makes any difference as they are essentially wasted.
I've also played a crapload of CS 1.6 and trust me, 120fps (or even 60) on a 120 hertz monitor (with v sync on) definitely feels "real".
I know what you are saying, but what im telling you is that the crosshairs refresh almost half of that of the FPS, shadows refresh even later, the farther something, it will also refresh later, that's how CSS and 1.6 are, don't believe me ask any pro CSS/1.6 player...
wrong... human eye can percieve at least 120 fps and probably over 200... but since the eye is not a camera, fps is a wrong type of measurement to begin with. and srsly, don't you notice the difference between smooth 60 fps gameplay and 30 fps??
The reason you need 120hz monitors for 3D is because its rending 2 images as one time, so each image its rendering can be rendered at 60hz not because you can see 120hz, because 3D cuts the refresh rate of each image by 1/2.
You only need more than 60FPS in CS, because somethings refresh half the rate of the FPS, CS is weird so the game's FPS, isn't really full screen FPS. In CS:S farther something is slower it refreshes, so while most things near by refresh at 60fps, some things farther might refresh at 30fps, Its complicatedly weird. The main reason you want more than 60fps in CS 1.6 is because the Cross-hairs refresh half the speed of the fps, so the game is going 60fps but the cross-hairs at 30 or less...
some quick questions. what is a safe voltage increase for a 5870? can i do it right out of the box or do i have to break it in a little by having it strecth it's legs a little and warm up with some benchies, lol?
i'm getting a xfx version cause of warrenty and of course cause xfx has the coolest box art and the door handle thingy, lol just kdding.that's not why...maybe... ^-^
I've already answered this twice, Games don't use more than 2-4 thread, so having HT on, wouldn't make a difference, all it would do is produce more heat. So, no I wouldn't, if anything in some games its less FPS...
i got this card today and yes its defo 20%+ faster than 295 in crysis, remember this is a single card so microstuttering is no longer a problem, i had MS problem with 280s which is why i changed, glad i did, SLI showed 60FPS but felt like 25, the ATI5870 shows 60FPS and feels like 60FPS, and bob333336 HT off improves FPS but only by a half a frame in crysis and 3 FPS in farcry 2
A: No its not, this is a single GPU card, running Crysis on all highest settings, and getting 30+fps 99% of the time... You also do know Crysis is coded for nVidia cards, so much to the point, that Crysis only uses 1/5th of each stream processors capability in my card?
B: HT won't help, do I have to say this a hundred more times, the game doesn't use more than 2-4 threads, turning HT on won't improve performance even in some games its show to improve when you turn it off...
idk how this whole fps thing works....
i mean like i got a HD 5570 and i run BattleField 3 Beta on AVG 35 fps
and how can u run crysis warhead on avg 40 fps?
crysis warhead was made in 2008!!!!!

Eclipezz 2 years ago
The thing is x4 AA on my HD5870 looks much better than x16AA ever did on my GTX280 SLi, and x8 looks better than anything on any card. I still basically get the same FPS at x8AA as x4AA as well, and yes we have to wait for new drivers.
bob333336 2 years ago
pretty good performance over my gtx 260 but i will wait for gtx 360-80
MrBitchAssNigger 2 years ago
All the people complaining about it only being around 30-40 FPS. Humans can only see up to 30 FPS so what's the big deal?
MeetMyMeatBE 2 years ago
And movies are 24FPS, so unless you think movies are laggy, stuff.
bob333336 2 years ago
lol, "the big deal" is that you're wrong.
0mnis14sh 2 years ago
Oh, didn't know that, thought it was 30.
MeetMyMeatBE 2 years ago
Thats because CS/CSS have horible coding so you need 100FPS in 1.6 to acctualy get REAL 60fps, and 300FPS in CS:S to get true 60FPS. Everything in the game, including the crosshairs refresh at a different rate than the frames them self do, so to compensate you must have much more FPS... I know, I play CS:S ALOOOOOOTTTTTT
bob333336 2 years ago
I'm not getting this. When you have V-sync on, -all- of the frames that are counted are real frames produced by your monitor. I don't see how having a higher frame rate than your monitor's refresh rate makes any difference as they are essentially wasted.
I've also played a crapload of CS 1.6 and trust me, 120fps (or even 60) on a 120 hertz monitor (with v sync on) definitely feels "real".
0mnis14sh 2 years ago
I know what you are saying, but what im telling you is that the crosshairs refresh almost half of that of the FPS, shadows refresh even later, the farther something, it will also refresh later, that's how CSS and 1.6 are, don't believe me ask any pro CSS/1.6 player...
bob333336 2 years ago
wrong... human eye can percieve at least 120 fps and probably over 200... but since the eye is not a camera, fps is a wrong type of measurement to begin with. and srsly, don't you notice the difference between smooth 60 fps gameplay and 30 fps??
Aragiss 2 years ago
60FPS is the max, and movies are run at 26fps, so 30fps is still smooth, but yes 60fps feels better...
bob333336 2 years ago
i was replying to MrBithcAssNigger. great card btw
Aragiss 2 years ago
60 is max for the human eye.
fact
LordNeb 2 years ago
just type "human eye fps" at google and get you fucking facts right
Aragiss 2 years ago
we can perceive 120fps with both eyes. 60 per eye.
thats why we require 120hz monitors for 3d vision for example.
But hey! if you think you can tell the difference between 300fps and 60fps, by all means get that tri sli setup and play at 1280 x 1024 :)
LordNeb 2 years ago
The reason you need 120hz monitors for 3D is because its rending 2 images as one time, so each image its rendering can be rendered at 60hz not because you can see 120hz, because 3D cuts the refresh rate of each image by 1/2.
bob333336 2 years ago
bob333336 pretty much answered your question. think twice before saying something that you think is a fact, ok?
Aragiss 2 years ago
well actually, that's exactly what i said. how about you read the comments?
infact, what bob said proves me right and you wrong. n00b
note the 60 per eye part.
you're so raged! rofl
LordNeb 2 years ago
3d may be using 60 fps but that doesn't mean it is max fps. it isn't possible to express the limitations of human perception as a given max frame rate
anyone that says 60 is max or 120 is max for the human eye, is terribly wrong...
so you fail lol
Aragiss 2 years ago
"can see" isn't equal to "max fps" change your retarded logic
Aragiss 2 years ago
...
Ok mate, i take it all back :)
all i know is, we need 60fps. nothing more, nothing less.
Either way, you may want to see a DR about that sand in your vagina.
LordNeb 2 years ago
lol south park
Aragiss 2 years ago
lol :)
LordNeb 2 years ago
You only need more than 60FPS in CS, because somethings refresh half the rate of the FPS, CS is weird so the game's FPS, isn't really full screen FPS. In CS:S farther something is slower it refreshes, so while most things near by refresh at 60fps, some things farther might refresh at 30fps, Its complicatedly weird. The main reason you want more than 60fps in CS 1.6 is because the Cross-hairs refresh half the speed of the fps, so the game is going 60fps but the cross-hairs at 30 or less...
bob333336 2 years ago
FPS?

Right top corner, same as my other video...

alright!

good vid!
but there is no need to run the gpu-fan at 5000% ;-)
it will adjust automatically, and it´s quite!
i got a xfx 5870, and the card works proberly without changing the fan speed.
greetings,

I also have 3x 150cfm fans in there, and i wear headsets when i game so its fine lol

you should use the the Ultra High mod to realy test out your gpu

only dx10 with hd5000 series ?
PuiuDR 2 years ago
HD5870 supports DX11.
bob333336 2 years ago
The new cards are the start of DX11 cards along with landscape mode with support of 3 monitors.
STRIKER520 2 years ago
You can get the HD5870 Six, which has 6 display ports when it comes out as well.
bob333336 2 years ago
can you plzz fix the links? doesnt work for me.
Can you higher your volt with that? Bah i cant w8 until i get my 5870!
dollerus 2 years ago
I will, you can go on my Overclocking video if you want too.
bob333336 2 years ago
Awesome card. may I ask what cooler you use for the 920?

TRUE120
bob333336 2 years ago
Very nice videos you have! I'm planning on buying this card 2^^
DJBACON8D 2 years ago
some quick questions. what is a safe voltage increase for a 5870? can i do it right out of the box or do i have to break it in a little by having it strecth it's legs a little and warm up with some benchies, lol?
i'm getting a xfx version cause of warrenty and of course cause xfx has the coolest box art and the door handle thingy, lol just kdding.that's not why...maybe... ^-^
DIRENGREY097 2 years ago
Yes you can go it right out of the box, check out my overclocking video, even shows you how, and 1.35v is probably the highest safe voltage.
bob333336 2 years ago
why did u turn HT off, you get better results with it on
skywalkmangeforce 2 years ago
I've already answered this twice, Games don't use more than 2-4 thread, so having HT on, wouldn't make a difference, all it would do is produce more heat. So, no I wouldn't, if anything in some games its less FPS...
bob333336 2 years ago
ill test it when my 5870 comes tommorow
skywalkmangeforce 2 years ago
Ok go for it, but it shouldn't make a difference, for me I actually get more FPS with it off...
bob333336 2 years ago
i got this card today and yes its defo 20%+ faster than 295 in crysis, remember this is a single card so microstuttering is no longer a problem, i had MS problem with 280s which is why i changed, glad i did, SLI showed 60FPS but felt like 25, the ATI5870 shows 60FPS and feels like 60FPS, and bob333336 HT off improves FPS but only by a half a frame in crysis and 3 FPS in farcry 2

yep

My sarcasm senses are tingling
bob333336 2 years ago
why don't u use 2X AA for more fps. or why not drop AA all together?
stupidguyaabbcc 2 years ago
Because I prefer image quality in a game such as Crysis...
bob333336 2 years ago
it goes below 30fps right here 0:46
DevSivram 2 years ago
OH NOEZ WHAT WILL WE EVER DO!
bob333336 2 years ago
This is a very serious problem. It went below 30fps, that is just terrible, turn the damn HT on
ricky1345 2 years ago
A: No its not, this is a single GPU card, running Crysis on all highest settings, and getting 30+fps 99% of the time... You also do know Crysis is coded for nVidia cards, so much to the point, that Crysis only uses 1/5th of each stream processors capability in my card?
B: HT won't help, do I have to say this a hundred more times, the game doesn't use more than 2-4 threads, turning HT on won't improve performance even in some games its show to improve when you turn it off...
