I keep being disappointed by cherry switches. I am looking for a decent replacement for my buckling spring IBM Model M13 (Black, trackpoint II model). I'd get a Unicomp Customizer, but they no longer offer black keys :(
A good amount of mechanical switch keyboards suck as well, but there are some that are actually decent. IBM buckling spring designs are the king of them all.
The same way a Suzuki Swift ain't a Ferrari... Whatever you type on a piece of shit rubber dome keyboard you'll type more on a mechanical after a few minutes getting used to it.
Thought about actually telling us which keyboard has which switches? Noobs like me dont know by just looking at the keyboard, thats why i'm watching a review on them... but good effort anyway.
What is the difference between red and black switches , do you know @mcbrite ? I am using 6gv2 but really interested of trying some red or brown switches. I don't actually like the clicky clicky blue : (
@mcbrite lolol got to love those fanboys that praise products like razer because they actually have no knowledge or experience with anything else. He probably buys razer because pro's use them............except the pro's get all their shit for free.
@basher481 The red ones are expensive because you need to get them from asia... around 150 bucks if I recall...
Blues aren't bad for gaming, but reds are better... For RTS-games they'd be about the same... but for fps the reds are far superior... and DEFINATELY better than the Black Widow Mickey Mouse bullshit... ^^
@sinterklaas1212 it's corsair that makes those...and they suck. Why? ALL the F keys as well as the insert/home/delete etc keys are rubber membrain. No idea why they did that at all.....
@cmdrdredd Yeah i saw that a few days ago as well on a forum! It's f'ing stupid! even on the k90, the macros are rubber dome :S I guess it's time to start looking for another cherry mx red keyboard...
@basher481 Blues aren't that bad but why people prefer Black or reds is because the blues reset above the actuation point. What this means is when you double tap or do rapid fire actions you have to release the keys almost all the way to the top again to do your second action. I do not find it a problem. It can be something you get used to. Some of the best Starcraft players are using Cherry Blue switches and they do many rapid fire keypresses.
browns are good for gaming and typeing blues are good only really for typing and blacks only really good for gaming reds are like blacks but dont require as much force
@XxWolfpack247xX Exactly, but I really like reds for typing (unlike blacks), their actuation is so light that I can type just as well as on blues, maybe even better...
I have the Xarmor U9BL as shown with the Cherry MX blue switches and love it. Since I grew up learning to type on a manual typewriter I prefer keys that are a little "stiffer" and really like the tactile feel especially with the rubber coating on the keys. Less chance of accidentally pressing key. Other keyboards seem "wimpy" now.
@VaiographyCA No, Cherry is simply most known, being the most prolific mechanical switch producer. If you look on the Cherry site, on each keyboard's description, they list the type of contact they use for them.
@MultiSnoopDawg A german company named Cherry makes the keys for mechanical key boards, and they have them in about four different "flavors," Cherry MX Blue, Cherry MX Black, Cherry MX Red, and Cherry MX Brown
@ezio1462 i know cherry, but what is the red one????? the blue=click and feel...the brown:only feel.... the black: only comfi keyboard, that has faster response... red:???
@MultiSnoopDawg Reds are nearly obsolete so you won't see them as often, so it's probably best to not even think about it. Most people say they are not adequate for gaming or regular typing and I've never even seen one listed.
Browns click a little. And it's weird but some Filco blacks click a bit and feel like blues, so it's definitely important not only to check the switch type but to actually touch the specific keyboard if you have a chance.
@WHareRabbit lol, how are reds obsolete? They are my favorite keys ever... And I'm willing to bet big money that they WOULD be a lot of people's favorite if they weren't so rare...
Best keys for FPS games, by a mile... Very nice for typing even though they DON'T have tactile feedback... But they are so light your fingers just fly across them.
@aznguy05 Better to buy a Noppoo Choc keyboard, it is of a superior build quality. Filco Majestouch from ************** will soon be replaced by..........have a guess.
NB: At the present moment, it has issues with the Mac OS, it is for PC only !!!
@thrblurr hmmm, I was thinking about making one comparing the red with the blue with the black switches...
Tell you what: You guys let me know if you want it commentated, not commentated or even "mega relaxing" (i.e. no comment and only slow, monotone clicks :-D) and I'll try to make another one or two.
@mcbrite hmm......really good offer. Black keys thrown in the mix would be awesome.....and MEGA RELAXING! Yes I am one of those guys that like the sounds of keyboards haha
Oh that sound.... Me Gusta.

Red and Black switches are identical other than the pressure needed to press the keys down.
Red is more sensitive than Black.

I type comparatively worse with a keyboard that isn't semi-ergonomic. Does that answer your question?
