What I love is going to deal with other stuff then after a long time see a video of Farscape and remember how awesome it is. The same thing with all my other favs.
@DarthRushy Maldis is powerful but after Picture if you will, he is de-corporealized back to his dimension.... He is due to return but it may take tens, hundreds or thousands of cycles... The more immediate threat is the Nebari empire who has a force more powerful than the Peacekeepers or Scaryns when the Peacekeeper's most legendary Warship was easily destroyed by a Nebari scout ship...
I heard Ben Browder saying if they get enough money to make a new farscape show they will be doing it 100%, so anyone wanna donate a few hundred millions to them !!? i REALLY NEED THIS SHOW BACK!!:D
You, me, and I'm sure quite a few others. May the SyFy channel burn in smoldering wreckage for the way they've mishandled and turned their back on Science Fiction.

Oh I forgot to mention this in my first comment..Personally I think that Farscape characters are deaper then the ones from SG series..My guess is that it was exactly what directors of SG Universe tryed to accomplish in this one..
@SxeD4ve Farscape is known as a "Space Opera", which makes it differ from other Sci-Fi series as it has a large emphasis on character's emotional growth. There's all sorts of love stories, internal struggles, etc. More than I've seen in other shows, imo. Its certainly not a parody of anything, a parody would be humor based and would resemble stargate. Its an independant series and it is certainly a good one.
@SxeD4ve I can see why y'd think that. :) But a parody would be pretty funny, like another one of those movies like "Meet the Spartans", where a parody stargate cast would travel to different movies and make fun of them. Stargate meets Avatar? WIN.
Farscape and Stargate series are the best Sci-Fi series Ive seen..every other got boring afer a while..but these two totally addictive..Scorpy is the greatest character of all times (cant really call him a villan..hes more of a hard core, no emotions, machiavellian avenger)..both shows are great dont know whats all the fuss about..
Difference is that they are completely different, Farscape has a bit of a dark comedy type feel to, while Stargate is more serious. Also Farscape takes place completely removed from Earth, so it's more whacky and fantastic in its stories. I prefer Farscape, though I like them both. I personally thought however Stargate went to shit after they introduced the Ori, the "movies" and then that "Universe" spinoff were the final nail in the coffin of the franchise.
@FuyouJake I never said they were similar..as for the Ori and the movies I totally agree..SGU Imust admit I talked trash about it after seeing the first few episodes but it kinda grew on me.The main reason is psychology behind behaviour in confined space (spaceship)..it seems realistic and people dont joke in certain death situations like they did in previous SGs (as it should be..Imean they kinda do but its more realistic..they show more fear and seriousness..but I still prefer SG1 and SGA
@ingotjuh ..have only seen a couple of episodes and vaguely understood the plot..sorry..would love to see it but I dont have much fee time these days..
Farscape was, and IS the best show ever! John Crichton was gorgeous, and creative for coming up w/ all the names like "Sparky" and "Spanky." And Scorpius was a great villain
@Maxthecleverest You need a certain level of maturity to be able to comprehend what is going on, and process it in a positive way. You're an idiot. Not replying to you again.
@Maxthecleverest Farscape has rape, women and children being slaughtered, what does sg-1 have? This being immature, you're clueless. Don't bother watching farscape, don't need immature people like you even attempting to watch it.
As someone who liked Star Wars over star trek and never did get into your usual generic "sci-fi" shows that follow that Star Trek formula I started expecting it to be like most others, boy was I wrong.
Show had a great over-series arcing storyline and character you actually cared about, along with it's more unique storyline of just being a single human being in space and not "in the future scenario."
Also loved the Jim Henson puppetry, gave it charm.
@Maxthecleverest lol you're way off the mark, farscape is very mature sci-fi for one thing some of the dvds are rated 18 so you aren't legally mature enough to to watch them ;) im 21 and watched them last year. Secondly Farscape is sexy! sex seems to be a bit of a taboo in US broadcsting, but thankfully they didn't ignore this important part of the human experience in this show and handled it all tastefully.
I read posts about rubber masks and muppets and I think of a great show that 75% of people never watched because of the title. at the end of seven seasons it ranks as one of the top 3 cult shows of all time and is the writing blueprint for lost, 24 and a host of great shows. buffy the vampire slayer anyone? farscape is an excellent show - you have just to watch it. if you want to trash it - that's your choice but doing it here looks like mere trolling.
There was a season two intro with Clauda Black and Ben Browder as their characters with Pilot. They talked about the new season while they kept in character. I loved it.
@Maxthecleverest farscapes better, satrgate i watch also but it lacks action and adventure, I just started watching farscape tons of action and adventure its like stargate, starwars and startrek put together in one show. Give it another try.
@Maxthecleverest You can start by working on your english and punctuation. Then come back to us and complain about something you haven't even watched.
I really have to thank Community for introducing me to this series, searched it on netflix after Abed mentioned it and its fucking sick show.............I hand tap, chest slap hand shake you Abed.
@Maxthecleverest I thought Farscape was a bit strange after watching the first few episodes, but it evolves into the darkest most sophisticated show ive ever seen. If you think its for kids you really have no idea. Season 2 especially has some nasty torture that is not for kids at all. I found SG-1 full of cliches. It just seems to borrow ideas from other science fiction. Everyone has their own taste but Farscape is for a smarter audience. It goes to places no other show has ever dared to.
@ahall1516 I would definitely agree with you here. I loved SG-1, but in comparison, Farscape is far darker, and really lives up to being 'space opera'.
A firework of emotions, fun, drama, sexiness, craziness, with wonderful attractive characters played by actors (and puppets) who have an incredible alchemy on screen (John and Aeryn, good God !!!) & writers and directors who take you way beyond the average comfy storyline…
Epic. That's what Farscape is. An epic roller coaster for those who are ready to "be more"
@Maxthecleverest : Don't watch Farscape. Way too audacious and original for you
@Maxthecleverest You cannot make that kind of lame comparison without even watching Farscape! And to say that you are too old to watch Farscape as a 17 year old is pretty narrow minded. I'm 37 and most whom I know that loves this show are adults. It was a smart show that was talked about being ahead of it time and each episode would effect how the series unwraps itself unlike Stargate where it's hit and missed.. and sometimes never mentioned again on each of their episodes.

@Maxthecleverest Here is some advice: as all things in life, come back too it after a little life experience and you may view it differently. It will not be dated, it is over the top and it is suppost to be.

@Maxthecleverest I felt the same way before I started watching. The more I watched Farscape the more I started to really like it. It definitely grew on me over time. They push the envelope a bit sometimes, but the story and acting is well done and it certianly is one of the more original shows of the late 90's/early 2000's. It's definitely worth giving a change.
@Maxthecleverest Hey, it is not fail to compare like that. Every show is good in its own way but some prefer Farscape others SG. You should at least watch a couple of episodes to decide.
@AlexJPetrov SGU reminds me of BSG, and atlantis was full of cheese. But SG1 was an awesome show(little shaky in the last few seasons, but still good), more memorable and better written than farscape I would say. But Farscape was still a fun show, very weird and quirky but it did have a certain charm.
@Jarsia i've only watched a few episodes of sg1, i just can't ignore rediculous things like alien weapon designs which are about as effective as a bow and arrow. And language, farscape handles this nicely, all aliens have their own language whereas in stargate everyone in the universe (except half of earth) speaks english with no explanation, so stupid.
@iliketha Actually most of the major alien players in stargate have their own language, which was more noticeable early on, especially with the jaffa. You cant clutter up every episode with subtitles though. As for staff weapons and such, well they are a poor design, but then most humans on other worlds tend to have firearm designs similar to ours.
Either way, neither of those things makes a show good or bad.
@iliketha SG1 had a fantastic cast, and a l0ot of genuinely well written episodes. Could care less about alien weapon designs, and at least I understand what theyre saying if they speak english. Youre not judging the actual substance of the show if thats what you look at.
@Jarsia the weapon design is just indicative of logical loop holes, why would such advanced races capable of FTL travel have weapons that are less effective than guns designed in the 40s. And you understand what they're saying in farscape too, there's just an explanation for it. look i'm not bashing sg1, i just question basic stuff like why all aliens speak english, that's why people like me watch farscape and people like you watch sg1 :)
@iliketha My only point it, these are things that dont play into the narrative much at all, so they arent important.
To contrast, you have a show a while back called adventure inc, now every time the main characters would be headed for some trouble, theyd load up and be kind enough to tell the audience the name and specs and chosen modifications of every weapons they chose to take. You know what, BORING AS ALL HELL. And it only lasted 1 season as proof of that.
@iliketha See, not everything has to make sense, Sure farscape explains the language, but the bottom line is in both shows everyone speaks english so the audience understands. Almost nobody gives 2 hoots if alien weapon design makes sense or not, they wanna watch a good show, not get their geek on.
Sg1 was a great show with some scientific inaccuracies, sure. But a show can be perfectly accurate about everything involved and still just plain suck. All I'm saying.
@iliketha And farscape was a cool show because it had a likable(if unusual) cast, and a fun and quirky setup. Had nothing to do with what made sense and what didnt(and a LOT of stuff on that show made no sense).
@Jarsia speak for yourself mate, other ppl might have liked it for different reasons and you cant just say "a LOT of stuff" that made no sense if you can't give a single example!
It's still going as a comic book series. And that's 5 years after it was cancelled. And after a miniseries to wrap the show up. In 5 years, Universe will only be known as "that terrible StarGate show that ended the franchise."
The fact that you said you couldn't take FarScape seriously because it uses makeup and puppets (of which because the characters are either too small for an actor, or too large to be done correctly by an actor or two, or too differently-designed for a human to play) while claiming a show which was based by critics was the greatest show ever, kind of shows what kind of scifi you like.
Sit down, watch FarScape. It's thousands of times better than Universe ever was. And, if you like scifi
@Draknfyre I never said I couldn't take Farscape seriously, again, another straw man. What I did say was that I found it more difficult to take seriously than SGU. It's a decent show, but I don't think it's better than SGU, let alone a thousand times better.
@Draknfyre farscape is an excellent show. sg universe wasn't. sg-1 and atlantis were good - but the writing in farscape spoke to an older audience and had far more depth with many characters that weren't clearly simply good or evil.
"Part of the new focus is a deliberate attempt to bring in younger viewers to watch Stargate Universe. "This is an opportunity to reinvent this franchise and make it relevant to a new generation," SCI FI president Dave Howe told The Hollywood Reporter. "We really don't want to be more of the same. It's going to build clearly off the existing franchise but with a cast that gives it a younger vibe."
It was with the president of SciFi, not the producers. That's my mistake. It was still in an
@Draknfyre That isn't even a direct quote, let alone from the person you claimed had said it. This is just spin from a Syfy exec trying to sell the show to a mainstream crowd, not words from the creators. Not that he even says 'less sci-fi more drama' anyway...
I guess "rooted less in scifi mythlogy and more character-based" needs to be spelled out for you? I knew exactly what it meant when he said it, and turns out, I was right. It was exactly as described. Screw the scifi, let's show teen-level drama, and sex!"
@Draknfyre The show is much truer to the genre than either of it's predecessors. If by 'sci-fi mythology' he meant some of the sillier tropes of TV sci-fi then he was probably right, there was no token alien, to rubber faces and no technobabble dues ex machinas. Otherwise no, he wasn't right, he was someone trying to sell the show to a mainstream audience, as per his job description.
Here's your damned quote. Choke on it. Tired of hearing someone who supposedly read so much about the series and so much of GateWorld not hearing this quote.
"Universe will attempt to appeal to a broader audience, drawing new viewers into the Stargate world. The show will be "a little more character-based, a little less rooted in a sci-fi mythology..."
dealing with a forming relationship with this strange yet familiar race of woman, while having to figure out a way to warn Earth of an incoming attack. Guess what? Drama. Without being stupid. Without resorting to cliche after cliche.
@Draknfyre Yes, but your idea of a cliché is sex, or pregnancy or gay characters. None of which are actually clichés, they're just a part of life. You completely ignore everything about the but that which you can warp and reduce into something shallow, which doesn't leave much for you to work with.
No, my idea of cliche involves more than that, but I am concentrating on the elements which were played up to draw in an audience, and part of what makes it a bad show.
Ratings drop? Show T&A. This is an age-old solution in TV. And they did it to begin with, because they knew people wanted to see it.
semi-human like with a fake nose and head prosthetic. But I guess unless the entire crew is completely human, it can't be drama, right? Have you even ever watched it? I guess no. You just heard it was "aliens with puppets", and left it at that.
How's this for you. Human is alone in a strange part of the galaxy, hunted for an accident, wanted for his knowledge, harassed constantly for being a "strange alien", coping with the new environment and everything that is new to him, while
@Draknfyre You're constricting a straw-man argument. I never said you need an all human cast for drama, and I never implied that Farscape was a bad show. All I said was that the rubber faces and puppets make it harder to take seriously.
Take serious for YOU. Do you go to plays, and say "I can't take this seriously because the makeup isn't Hollywood quality, or the sets aren't realistic enuf" ?
Then don't believe me. Denial seems to be a strong suit for you. It's there. If you take a few minutes, you could find it. But you don't care, you don't care what the quote says, because you will just come back to "but it's good drama!".
You knock FarScape, because it uses rubber prosthetics and a couple puppets? You do understand that the two are not mutually exclusive, right? Maybe you need to see the main characters are human, human-like, human-like with a different skin color, and
@Draknfyre I'm sorry, but I just don't believe you.
There's no juvenile drama in the show, as for being taken seriously, that differs from one person to the next. I find it funny though that in one breath you say SGU can't be taken seriously, yet in the next praise a show with rubber faced aliens and puppets. I like Farscape, but it's a lot harder to take seriously than SGU.
I am not going to bother digging up the link to something three years old because you don't care anyway. You want it? Google it. It was front page news on GateWorld. If you use that site as much as you let on, you should have no trouble finding it. it's in an interview with the main producers when the series was announced, before they even had a finalized cast. The main plotline hadn't even been announced yet. And by saying they were aiming for those, it left people scared
You can't dismiss the fact that outside of a few situtations like you described (which are scifi plots) the storylines were cliched as hell. You could take a normal drama, add in scifi elements, and change the location, and it would fit with the show. Watch FarScape. You want something that shows the human element, and drama, and is good scifi? Watch FarScape. It, too, was cancelled by SciFi because they didn't want to keep paying for it. It won Saturn Awards after it was cancelled, and the fan
@Draknfyre "You could take a normal drama, add in scifi elements, and change the location, and it would fit with the show. "
No it wouldn't, not unless there is everyday body swapping technology that I'm not aware of, or diseases that turn you into super-human alien hybrids, or download you consciousness into a ship.
situation. When you end up having to write people where they hate almost everyone else, and annoying-ass characters are kept on simply because they create the very drama people love (while in a real situation he would have been beaten severely each time) to create the drama, it isn't good drama.
From your posts it seems like you like drama, and you like scifi. So a show like this which (supposedly) combines the two is perfect to you.
@Draknfyre There's no teen drama in the show, the plots don't revolve around who is sleeping with who, and there has never been a 'find out who is gay' storyline either. Those are some examples of you attacking elements that aren't even there.
Excuse me, it wasn't a "who's gay", it was "a character is gay, and then swaps bodies with a straight person, and has a sexual encounter with her lover." That's some creepy and dumb drama right there.
@Draknfyre I know it wasn't 'who's gay' but that is what you had said. And it's not dumb, it's exactly the sort of thought provoking moral dilemma than sci-f is supposed to approach, that no other genre can.
While ratings are not always indictive of quality, it can show the public opinion of a show. And it did. When you have viewers turning it off, it obviously is leaving a bad impression.
You mention GateWorld. You want a source for the lowest ratings ever claim? Go look up some old articles.
The things I am attacking did indeed exist on the show. Someone ends up jealous, someone ends up in a love triangle, someone ends up pregnant, and that ends up being forced drama because of their
@Draknfyre No, I wanted a source for those supposed quotes from the producers. I know the show has had low ratings, I know it hasn't had a great press. I'm not interested in those things, I'm interesting in quality.
It's the same kind of stupid drama that's so popular on TV today. The producers said they were "concentrating" on the human drama, and making it "less about scifi than the human drama", Those are direct quotes.
by the producers. You just happened to like it, and apply whatever justifications you want to it to claim it was a good show.
If it was a good show on it's own merit, it would still be running. It was CANCELLED because it sucked, The ratings were the worst scifi had for any show. I remind you you came into a completely unrelated video, and spammed your link. Doesn't make you look either intelligent or trustworthy when it comes to opinions.
@Draknfyre I'm not justifying anything. I'm explaining why I think it's a great show, just like you're explaining why you think it's a bad show. There difference is my praise is directed toward things that are actually part of the show, while many of your criticisms seem to be attacking things that aren't.
I personally don't think that ratings are indicative of quality, if they did then Dancing with the Stars and other reality shite would be the best things on TV.
@Draknfyre It isn't essentially like that though, that's the problem. That's why I'm struggling to take your argument seriously. I could understand if you simply weren't into character drama, but to try and paint the show as something it isn't is just bizarre.
you started downing it after seeing an episode or two.
And where the hell do you keep the average age was 50? Talking about pulling shit out of your ass.
When someone says they want to attract the "younger demographic", they mean the 16-25 crowd. Which is exactly what it was written for. Go watch the StarGate: SG-1 episode "200". They even made fun of this. Unfortunatelly, it turned out to be ironic to StarGate fans as that's the direction they went with a new show.
@Draknfyre It was almost 50, you only need to go and read some of the old Nielsen threads on Gateworld to check if you like.
They were making fun of the type of show that you're trying to paint SGU as, not as the one it actually is. You're desperately pointing to everyday things like sex and pregnancy in an attempt to drag the show down to reality TV level, and it just makes you look either silly, or ignorant of the show.
Your opinion. And you probably love the drama-filled idiotic shows that litter the channels today, too.
The characters can be summed up like this. "They hate everyone else except for one or two, and they are filled with angst.". You keep referring to StarGate: Atlantis. Did you ever watch StarGate: SG-1? There was another entire series before Atlantis. I am getting the impression you aren't familiar with the franchise at all, and simply saw an episode of Universe, it appealed to you, and you
@Draknfyre Then you're mistaken. I've seen every episode of all three series. I like SG-1 and SGU for different reasons, but find SGA to just be a poor mans SGA. I feel sorry for you if you can't appreciate SGU for what it is, a fantastic, adult sci-fi character drama.
Like you said, your opinion. You see it as a "fantastic, adult scifi drama", while many, many more people see it as a "cliched, juvenile, poorly-written drama."
@Draknfyre They really never. Most normal people simply don't spend time talking about shows they don't like, it's only the tiny minority of haters that do. There are lots of genre's I don't like, that doesn't mean a slam them and try and reduce them to something they're not.
I love this show! I think it was awesome because it went back to Space Opera formula. Jon Crichton passing to a different region of Space teeming with alien lifeforms was a throwback to Golden Age sci-fi in the tradition of Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers. Just goes to show that you can't reinvent the wheel.
Being a huge Sci-Fi fan I had to watch this show and Wow! Farscape is masterpiece. The biggest strength of it is emotional/sexual chemistry between the cast. I love Crichton, Aeryn, Chiana, Zhaan, Pilot, Jool etc Sikozu was the only one annoying character. Zhaan should have been in all 4 seasons. She was the most unique character.
Farscape is one of my fav Sci-Fi shows (along with The X Files, Babylon 5, Robocop The Series, Lexx, The 4400, Torchwood, Earth: Final Conflict, TekWar, SeaQuest etc)
It's a piece of shit panned by almost every StarGate fan out there. It uses lame plotlines, ridiculous characters you don't care about, and sex. If it's so great, how come it got cancelled before it's second season was even over with, while StarGate: SG-1 got 10, and StarGate: Atlantis only got cancelled because they wanted to only pay for Universe. It's ratings were so pathetic they would rather can it than keep paying for it.
@Draknfyre Firefly was canned before it's first season had even ended, commercial success doesn't mean shit. It's a shame so much of sci-fi fandom is made up of philistines who only like wise-cracking characters, pew pew lasers and explosions. SGU was something deeper, more intelligent, a true exploration into the human condition like science fiction is supposed to be, but unfortunately more niche too.
"The human condition" It had more sex in the first ten minutes of the first episode than all of StarGate: SG-1 and StarGate: Atlantis combined. It was designed to appeal to the stupid, young "drama is everything" crowd with shallow characters who most people hated more than liked. It was a rip-off of Voyager and Battlestar Galactica. BSG was on it's way out, SciFi needed another show like it. So they created Universe.
@Draknfyre There were three instances of rape in the first season of SG-1 alone. Also, shallow characters? Don't make me laugh, these characters are more three dimensional and more developed now than SG-1 characters were at this point, and bar McKay, ALL Atlantis characters ever were. Are they dislikeable as people? Hell yes, the writers didn't pander to the light-weight sci-fi fans out there with hero archetypes, instead went for more flawed and compelling characterizations.
The whole "we're focusing on the human condition" tag line they used meant "We're concentrating on the young crowd who liked 90210 and reality shows." Don't confuse marketing with actual meaning. The show was terrible, 99% of the characters were annoying as hell and people hated them, and the plotlines were often twisted as hell, in some cases requring you to go to the website to watch an additional video to figure out what the hell happened.
@Draknfyre They never once used a "we're focusing on the human condition" tagline, or even mentioned it in marketing. That's an analysis made by me and other fans, people who understand what the genre actually is about at it's core. And it isn't actors with rubber faces and makeup pretending to be aliens, I can tell you that. The exploration into the human condition in SGU is what all great sci-fi strives for, Asimov understood this, and scoffed at the more light trashy stuff like SGA.
You apparantly didn't read the interviews before the show came out. "The human condition" is a phrase they used in promoting the show.
If you think cliched storylines revolving around sex, who's screwing who, who's pregnant, who's gay, and who has a loved one back one who desperately wants to see them again, is "exploring the human condition", then go watch any reality show or teen drama. The only thing making this show scifi is the setting. You could pull it out of that
@Draknfyre ""The human condition" is a phrase they used in promoting the show."
No they never, I followed the build up closely, you've just pulled that out of your arse. Fell free to prove me wrong with a link article in a PM though.
@Draknfyre There are no storylines about sex, nor 'who's gay'. Have you even watched the show? Yes people do have sex in it, yes people do get pregnant and yes there are gay characters, that's because this is s realistic, adult depiction of what characters would do if thrust into this fantastical sci-fi scenario, something we never got with the other two shows, and something that is the essence of the genre.
@Draknfyre Why are you focusing on minor scenes that flesh out characters and develop them? Why not focus on the lengths the characters are driven to to survive, the effect all this technology has on them, the realism we never got with the other two shows? Much easier I suppose to attack your depiction of the show, than the show itself I suppose, if a bit intellectually lazy.
Setting, and it would fit right in with any show on TV today about the same thing. BSG, while it had it's flaws, was far more into that subject than Universe ever could be. SciFi milked BSG to death, and when it was about to end, they came up with Universe. A rip-off of both BSG and Voyager (oh look, a ship stuck out in the middle of nowhere) meant only to draw in the suckers who want to watch the "drama, all the time" crap which has become the cheapest form of entertainment out there.
@Draknfyre All of the drama in SGU is driven by the technology around the characters, the way science fiction is meant to be. You can always tell the lightweight sci-fi fans that are more into rubber faced aliens and explosions than science fiction, because they're the ones that hate the stones (a fantastic thought-provoking storytelling device) yet love the space battles. Drama isn't cheap entertainment, it's meaningful, and everything eye candy pew-pew isn't.
Drama is cheap when it's used for such ridiculous fluff as it was in Universe. Your little attacks aside (lightweight scifi fan) you simply found a show which played up the cheap (read: teen drama) drama you like, so you are defending it. There is a reason Universe was almost universally bashed by everyone, scifi fans included. It starred a bunch of characters who mostly hated each other, and viewers hated as well, and retread used plotlines which have been done literally
@Draknfyre There are no teens in the show and no teen drama, it's claims like those that make the haters so easy to dismiss. As for why the fans reacted as they did, it's because the show took a massive departure from a relatively generic action romp, into a sci-fi character drama, which is an incredibly niche sub genre at the best of times.
Personally I prefer compelling 3D characters of likeable 2D ones, but that's just me.
THOUSANDS of times before. The entire premise isn't even original. As I have said three times now, it's a ripoff of BSG and Voyager. Hey, look, a view on the human condition AND scifi battles. Voyager, with it's Star Trek utopia culture made a better comment on the human condition because they had to make choices which contridicted their upbringing, and the society normal for hundreds of years. It's not "OMG, I HATE YOU! I WAS IN LOVE WITH YOU! YOU SLEPT WITH WHO?". and
@Draknfyre The basic premise, lost on a ship with no way of getting home is a genre classic, it certainly wasn't invented by Voyager or BSG, and it's a theme Farscape shares too. Exploration into the human condition is about putting characters in situations that we couldn't in real life and seeing how they'd react, which in term tells us about ourselves. It't not about inventing a a philosophy for a fictional society.
"I'm jealous of your relationship.", and episodes which ended, and another new one starting up leaving the resolution completely unshown. How do we know what happened? Oh, right, we have to go to the company's WEBSITE, and look at the damned videos to see the ending. Something that isn't even told to you on the show. You just had to be on the site to figure it out. It was nothing more than a bunch of stupid teenage-level drama set in space. They could have stripped it of the StarGate name,
@Draknfyre Ah, so you were one of the those people that needed the ending of Time explaining to them? Oh dear. I suppose the faith the writers showed in the intelligence of their audience was misplaced in some cases.
why I love farscape? it's just... well, the whole concept and so on is kinda like Moya: it's so organic. before farscape I hated scifi.

@FD87 What about Maldis(equal to Scorpy).
DarthRushy 1 month ago
@DarthRushy Maldis is powerful but after Picture if you will, he is de-corporealized back to his dimension.... He is due to return but it may take tens, hundreds or thousands of cycles... The more immediate threat is the Nebari empire who has a force more powerful than the Peacekeepers or Scaryns when the Peacekeeper's most legendary Warship was easily destroyed by a Nebari scout ship...

@FD87 Maybe...I still think that a Maldis ep where he "connects" to Stark would've fitted.

what exactly is farscape supposed to be? is it a stargate parody?
SxeD4ve 5 months ago
@SxeD4ve Farscape is known as a "Space Opera", which makes it differ from other Sci-Fi series as it has a large emphasis on character's emotional growth. There's all sorts of love stories, internal struggles, etc. More than I've seen in other shows, imo. Its certainly not a parody of anything, a parody would be humor based and would resemble stargate. Its an independant series and it is certainly a good one.
rorshachfan 5 months ago
@rorshachfan like half of the farscape cast is from stargate and its kinda hilarious to watch, thats why i thought its a stargate parody...
SxeD4ve 5 months ago
@SxeD4ve I can see why y'd think that. :) But a parody would be pretty funny, like another one of those movies like "Meet the Spartans", where a parody stargate cast would travel to different movies and make fun of them. Stargate meets Avatar? WIN.

FuyouJake 5 months ago
@FuyouJake I never said they were similar..as for the Ori and the movies I totally agree..SGU Imust admit I talked trash about it after seeing the first few episodes but it kinda grew on me.The main reason is psychology behind behaviour in confined space (spaceship)..it seems realistic and people dont joke in certain death situations like they did in previous SGs (as it should be..Imean they kinda do but its more realistic..they show more fear and seriousness..but I still prefer SG1 and SGA

Loved this show so much.

It goes to places no other show has ever dared to.

theshadowbehindme 8 months ago
@AlexJPetrov SGU reminds me of BSG, and atlantis was full of cheese. But SG1 was an awesome show(little shaky in the last few seasons, but still good), more memorable and better written than farscape I would say. But Farscape was still a fun show, very weird and quirky but it did have a certain charm.
Jarsia 8 months ago
@Jarsia i've only watched a few episodes of sg1, i just can't ignore rediculous things like alien weapon designs which are about as effective as a bow and arrow. And language, farscape handles this nicely, all aliens have their own language whereas in stargate everyone in the universe (except half of earth) speaks english with no explanation, so stupid.
iliketha 8 months ago
@iliketha Actually most of the major alien players in stargate have their own language, which was more noticeable early on, especially with the jaffa. You cant clutter up every episode with subtitles though. As for staff weapons and such, well they are a poor design, but then most humans on other worlds tend to have firearm designs similar to ours.
Either way, neither of those things makes a show good or bad.
Jarsia 8 months ago
@iliketha SG1 had a fantastic cast, and a l0ot of genuinely well written episodes. Could care less about alien weapon designs, and at least I understand what theyre saying if they speak english. Youre not judging the actual substance of the show if thats what you look at.
Jarsia 8 months ago
@Jarsia the weapon design is just indicative of logical loop holes, why would such advanced races capable of FTL travel have weapons that are less effective than guns designed in the 40s. And you understand what they're saying in farscape too, there's just an explanation for it. look i'm not bashing sg1, i just question basic stuff like why all aliens speak english, that's why people like me watch farscape and people like you watch sg1 :)
iliketha 8 months ago
@iliketha My only point it, these are things that dont play into the narrative much at all, so they arent important.
To contrast, you have a show a while back called adventure inc, now every time the main characters would be headed for some trouble, theyd load up and be kind enough to tell the audience the name and specs and chosen modifications of every weapons they chose to take. You know what, BORING AS ALL HELL. And it only lasted 1 season as proof of that.
Jarsia 8 months ago
@iliketha See, not everything has to make sense, Sure farscape explains the language, but the bottom line is in both shows everyone speaks english so the audience understands. Almost nobody gives 2 hoots if alien weapon design makes sense or not, they wanna watch a good show, not get their geek on.
Sg1 was a great show with some scientific inaccuracies, sure. But a show can be perfectly accurate about everything involved and still just plain suck. All I'm saying.
Jarsia 8 months ago
@iliketha And farscape was a cool show because it had a likable(if unusual) cast, and a fun and quirky setup. Had nothing to do with what made sense and what didnt(and a LOT of stuff on that show made no sense).
Jarsia 8 months ago
@Jarsia speak for yourself mate, other ppl might have liked it for different reasons and you cant just say "a LOT of stuff" that made no sense if you can't give a single example!

It's still going as a comic book series. And that's 5 years after it was cancelled. And after a miniseries to wrap the show up. In 5 years, Universe will only be known as "that terrible StarGate show that ended the franchise."
Draknfyre 10 months ago
The fact that you said you couldn't take FarScape seriously because it uses makeup and puppets (of which because the characters are either too small for an actor, or too large to be done correctly by an actor or two, or too differently-designed for a human to play) while claiming a show which was based by critics was the greatest show ever, kind of shows what kind of scifi you like.
Sit down, watch FarScape. It's thousands of times better than Universe ever was. And, if you like scifi
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre I never said I couldn't take Farscape seriously, again, another straw man. What I did say was that I found it more difficult to take seriously than SGU. It's a decent show, but I don't think it's better than SGU, let alone a thousand times better.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
@Draknfyre farscape is an excellent show. sg universe wasn't. sg-1 and atlantis were good - but the writing in farscape spoke to an older audience and had far more depth with many characters that weren't clearly simply good or evil.

Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre That isn't even a direct quote, let alone from the person you claimed had said it. This is just spin from a Syfy exec trying to sell the show to a mainstream crowd, not words from the creators. Not that he even says 'less sci-fi more drama' anyway...
xD
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
@AnonymousPanacea
I guess "rooted less in scifi mythlogy and more character-based" needs to be spelled out for you? I knew exactly what it meant when he said it, and turns out, I was right. It was exactly as described. Screw the scifi, let's show teen-level drama, and sex!"
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre The show is much truer to the genre than either of it's predecessors. If by 'sci-fi mythology' he meant some of the sillier tropes of TV sci-fi then he was probably right, there was no token alien, to rubber faces and no technobabble dues ex machinas. Otherwise no, he wasn't right, he was someone trying to sell the show to a mainstream audience, as per his job description.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
Here's your damned quote. Choke on it. Tired of hearing someone who supposedly read so much about the series and so much of GateWorld not hearing this quote.

dealing with a forming relationship with this strange yet familiar race of woman, while having to figure out a way to warn Earth of an incoming attack. Guess what? Drama. Without being stupid. Without resorting to cliche after cliche.
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre Yes, but your idea of a cliché is sex, or pregnancy or gay characters. None of which are actually clichés, they're just a part of life. You completely ignore everything about the but that which you can warp and reduce into something shallow, which doesn't leave much for you to work with.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
@AnonymousPanacea
No, my idea of cliche involves more than that, but I am concentrating on the elements which were played up to draw in an audience, and part of what makes it a bad show.
Ratings drop? Show T&A. This is an age-old solution in TV. And they did it to begin with, because they knew people wanted to see it.
Draknfyre 10 months ago
semi-human like with a fake nose and head prosthetic. But I guess unless the entire crew is completely human, it can't be drama, right? Have you even ever watched it? I guess no. You just heard it was "aliens with puppets", and left it at that.
How's this for you. Human is alone in a strange part of the galaxy, hunted for an accident, wanted for his knowledge, harassed constantly for being a "strange alien", coping with the new environment and everything that is new to him, while
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre You're constricting a straw-man argument. I never said you need an all human cast for drama, and I never implied that Farscape was a bad show. All I said was that the rubber faces and puppets make it harder to take seriously.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
@AnonymousPanacea
Take serious for YOU. Do you go to plays, and say "I can't take this seriously because the makeup isn't Hollywood quality, or the sets aren't realistic enuf" ?
Draknfyre 10 months ago
Then don't believe me. Denial seems to be a strong suit for you. It's there. If you take a few minutes, you could find it. But you don't care, you don't care what the quote says, because you will just come back to "but it's good drama!".
You knock FarScape, because it uses rubber prosthetics and a couple puppets? You do understand that the two are not mutually exclusive, right? Maybe you need to see the main characters are human, human-like, human-like with a different skin color, and
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre I'm not in denial at all, the burden of proof is on you, you're the one that made the assertion and are now unable to provide a source.
I never 'knocked' Farscape as such, all I said was that the prosthetics and puppets make it harder to take seriously, which they do.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
that the show would end up exactly like it did, a bunch of juvenile drama which couldn't be taken seriously.
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre I'm sorry, but I just don't believe you.

Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre There's no teen drama in the show, the plots don't revolve around who is sleeping with who, and there has never been a 'find out who is gay' storyline either. Those are some examples of you attacking elements that aren't even there.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
@AnonymousPanacea
Excuse me, it wasn't a "who's gay", it was "a character is gay, and then swaps bodies with a straight person, and has a sexual encounter with her lover." That's some creepy and dumb drama right there.
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre I know it wasn't 'who's gay' but that is what you had said. And it's not dumb, it's exactly the sort of thought provoking moral dilemma than sci-f is supposed to approach, that no other genre can.

by the producers.
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre I'm not justifying anything. I'm explaining why I think it's a great show, just like you're explaining why you think it's a bad show. There difference is my praise is directed toward things that are actually part of the show, while many of your criticisms seem to be attacking things that aren't.
I personally don't think that ratings are indicative of quality, if they did then Dancing with the Stars and other reality shite would be the best things on TV.

That's essentiall Universe.
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre It isn't essentially like that though, that's the problem. That's why I'm struggling to take your argument seriously. I could understand if you simply weren't into character drama, but to try and paint the show as something it isn't is just bizarre.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
Downing Atlantis, that is.
Draknfyre 10 months ago
you started downing it after seeing an episode or two.
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre It was almost 50, you only need to go and read some of the old Nielsen threads on Gateworld to check if you like.
They were making fun of the type of show that you're trying to paint SGU as, not as the one it actually is. You're desperately pointing to everyday things like sex and pregnancy in an attempt to drag the show down to reality TV level, and it just makes you look either silly, or ignorant of the show.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
Your opinion. And you probably love the drama-filled idiotic shows that litter the channels today, too.
The characters can be summed up like this. "They hate everyone else except for one or two, and they are filled with angst.". You keep referring to StarGate: Atlantis. Did you ever watch StarGate: SG-1? There was another entire series before Atlantis. I am getting the impression you aren't familiar with the franchise at all, and simply saw an episode of Universe, it appealed to you, and you
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre Then you're mistaken. I've seen every episode of all three series. I like SG-1 and SGU for different reasons, but find SGA to just be a poor mans SGA. I feel sorry for you if you can't appreciate SGU for what it is, a fantastic, adult sci-fi character drama.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
@AnonymousPanacea
Like you said, your opinion. You see it as a "fantastic, adult scifi drama", while many, many more people see it as a "cliched, juvenile, poorly-written drama."
Draknfyre 10 months ago

@AnonymousPanacea
StarGate Universe isn't worth saving. It's a piece of crap show they cancelled StarGate: Atlantis for.
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre It's better than Atlantis, probably the best sci-fi on TV right now.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
@AnonymousPanacea
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre Firefly was canned before it's first season had even ended, commercial success doesn't mean shit. It's a shame so much of sci-fi fandom is made up of philistines who only like wise-cracking characters, pew pew lasers and explosions. SGU was something deeper, more intelligent, a true exploration into the human condition like science fiction is supposed to be, but unfortunately more niche too.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago 16
@AnonymousPanacea
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre There were three instances of rape in the first season of SG-1 alone. Also, shallow characters? Don't make me laugh, these characters are more three dimensional and more developed now than SG-1 characters were at this point, and bar McKay, ALL Atlantis characters ever were. Are they dislikeable as people? Hell yes, the writers didn't pander to the light-weight sci-fi fans out there with hero archetypes, instead went for more flawed and compelling characterizations.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
The whole "we're focusing on the human condition" tag line they used meant "We're concentrating on the young crowd who liked 90210 and reality shows." Don't confuse marketing with actual meaning. The show was terrible, 99% of the characters were annoying as hell and people hated them, and the plotlines were often twisted as hell, in some cases requring you to go to the website to watch an additional video to figure out what the hell happened.
It's basically "Drama, in space". They even did a
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre They never once used a "we're focusing on the human condition" tagline, or even mentioned it in marketing. That's an analysis made by me and other fans, people who understand what the genre actually is about at it's core. And it isn't actors with rubber faces and makeup pretending to be aliens, I can tell you that. The exploration into the human condition in SGU is what all great sci-fi strives for, Asimov understood this, and scoffed at the more light trashy stuff like SGA.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
@AnonymousPanacea
You could pull it out of that
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre ""The human condition" is a phrase they used in promoting the show."
No they never, I followed the build up closely, you've just pulled that out of your arse. Fell free to prove me wrong with a link article in a PM though.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
@Draknfyre There are no storylines about sex, nor 'who's gay'. Have you even watched the show? Yes people do have sex in it, yes people do get pregnant and yes there are gay characters, that's because this is s realistic, adult depiction of what characters would do if thrust into this fantastical sci-fi scenario, something we never got with the other two shows, and something that is the essence of the genre.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
@Draknfyre Why are you focusing on minor scenes that flesh out characters and develop them? Why not focus on the lengths the characters are driven to to survive, the effect all this technology has on them, the realism we never got with the other two shows? Much easier I suppose to attack your depiction of the show, than the show itself I suppose, if a bit intellectually lazy.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
Setting, and it would fit right in with any show on TV today about the same thing. BSG, while it had it's flaws, was far more into that subject than Universe ever could be. SciFi milked BSG to death, and when it was about to end, they came up with Universe. A rip-off of both BSG and Voyager (oh look, a ship stuck out in the middle of nowhere) meant only to draw in the suckers who want to watch the "drama, all the time" crap which has become the cheapest form of entertainment out there.
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre All of the drama in SGU is driven by the technology around the characters, the way science fiction is meant to be. You can always tell the lightweight sci-fi fans that are more into rubber faced aliens and explosions than science fiction, because they're the ones that hate the stones (a fantastic thought-provoking storytelling device) yet love the space battles. Drama isn't cheap entertainment, it's meaningful, and everything eye candy pew-pew isn't.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
@AnonymousPanacea
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre There are no teens in the show and no teen drama, it's claims like those that make the haters so easy to dismiss. As for why the fans reacted as they did, it's because the show took a massive departure from a relatively generic action romp, into a sci-fi character drama, which is an incredibly niche sub genre at the best of times.
Personally I prefer compelling 3D characters of likeable 2D ones, but that's just me.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
THOUSANDS of times before. The entire premise isn't even original. As I have said three times now, it's a ripoff of BSG and Voyager. Hey, look, a view on the human condition AND scifi battles. Voyager, with it's Star Trek utopia culture made a better comment on the human condition because they had to make choices which contridicted their upbringing, and the society normal for hundreds of years. It's not "OMG, I HATE YOU! I WAS IN LOVE WITH YOU! YOU SLEPT WITH WHO?". and
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre The basic premise, lost on a ship with no way of getting home is a genre classic, it certainly wasn't invented by Voyager or BSG, and it's a theme Farscape shares too. Exploration into the human condition is about putting characters in situations that we couldn't in real life and seeing how they'd react, which in term tells us about ourselves. It't not about inventing a a philosophy for a fictional society.
AnonymousPanacea 10 months ago
"I'm jealous of your relationship.", and episodes which ended, and another new one starting up leaving the resolution completely unshown. How do we know what happened? Oh, right, we have to go to the company's WEBSITE, and look at the damned videos to see the ending. Something that isn't even told to you on the show. You just had to be on the site to figure it out. It was nothing more than a bunch of stupid teenage-level drama set in space. They could have stripped it of the StarGate name,
Draknfyre 10 months ago
@Draknfyre Ah, so you were one of the those people that needed the ending of Time explaining to them? Oh dear. I suppose the faith the writers showed in the intelligence of their audience was misplaced in some cases.
