Can anyone tell me what this tune is ?? the name of the tune ?? I love Hong Kong Police Bag pipe band music can anyone here point me to the right place to get CD's ?
This piece of music was played when the last governor of Hong Kong, Chris Patten, was about to leave the Government House in the afternoon on 30 June 1997. It was very touching and moving moment after which HK ushered into darkness that never ended....I was lucky to witness that moment on the TV at that time. But I, like many hongkongers, then had to experience the downfall of Hong Kong then...
People who are bashing the band should be ashamed of themselves. Most people enjoy their rendition of Highland Cathedral, and the band is keeping alive music traditions in a place where bagpipes are not part of the local culture.
Plus, this band led the Highland Cathedral procession in the Zurich Police Music Festival. What have any of you done?
this tune is on "the last post 11 november 09", the 5.27 mins version. I fell in love with it and asked, the tune is called highland cathedral. Fantastic. Julie
The music itself represents the good old days of Hong Kong, the Last Governor of Hong Kong Chris Patten once said that it is his own favorite tune, it was also played in the Governor House 1997 handover. It was also the force anthem of "Royal Hong Kong Police Force"...
im ashamed... i grew up in hong kong... we had fantastic pipe bands under british rule.. kiss that good bye... iv been playing for three weeks, i bet ill be able to whoop em gd by christmas
Maybe they should hire a Scotsman to show them how it should be done properly. They used to be really good with the pipes mind you I don't think in the situation they are in it is to easy.
Actually there ARE good players in HK and who aren't interested in playing with bands so there's little to do with "the situation" assuming you're talking about the fact that HKG is no longer a Brit colony. Truth is most of these bands just want to dress the part and they take for granted the general public can't tell the difference musically and so as long as they dress fancy they can pretty much get away with a crappy performance. It's sad but that's the way it is here.
@alvindurochermtl Agreeing on dressing up to look the part but lacking the musical abilities. That's very Hong Kong since the British Administration. At least that's how I feel about most of the cantonese pop singers who don't actually have a voice and any prior training before they were put on stage because they have a pretty face.
WOW....a pipe band in Hong Kong, hmm.... if you listen.. the pipe Major plays faster than ther others, and they are all out of tune and the Highe A. is a wee flat.
Say what you guys want too, But I agree with letsstarttoday; For people who more than likely don't get a lot of exsposure to pipe music outside of Hong Kong they sure as hell did an awesome job. I like that song too and I personally think they did an excelent job in playing it.

@Germania6628 mate, like the description said, its Highland Cathedral, and beware the hk police played it in a rather quicker pace and an odder tone.

實在令人感動。
我唔想再聽《歌唱祖國》這一類歌了。
唔係佢唔好聽或無意義,而係個人喜好。

He rushed when he gets on the F.. but anyway, good job!

I vividly remember they played this bag pipe music at Chris Patten's final farewell from his governor home in 1997, it made cry...

could have been tuned better. but considering they probably dont get a whole lot of exposure to quality pipe bands and competitions, not bad at all.
