this non-sensical jibberings of a naive, sheltered, obnoxious girl and it's about as impressive as a child erecting a sand castle too close to the tide, having it washed away as the tidal waves flatten it. I'm always taken aback by these new feminists who go off to university bright eyed and bushy tailed and come out angry, pissed, and bitter at the hands of some radical who had to teach them that they are oppressed - here's a clue, if you need to be taught your oppressed - you're not!

i know alix is mostly spoken word, but she is so fuckin brilliant i dont know why she isnt as popular as ani difranco, because i think shes much better. people look at me weird when they find out im a male feminist but with womyn like her, i know im fighting the right battle
I was quoting her album, the next track after Subtle Sister is called "the compliment" and it's a recording of some guy saying this. I think it's funny :)
so what's your solution? what do you feel is the answer? or don't you think there are any problems in the world to begin with?
i stand with people like alix who at least aren't scared to say what they really thing rather than hide it under a big pile of jargonistic shit like yourself.
I certainly appreciate the sentiment expressed by Ms. Olson on this video, but aside from a rapid-fire delivery of a multitude of wrongs, rendered with the usual forcefulness and exaggeration for the sake of emphasis that characterizes the serious activist-cum-poetry slammer, there's nothing particularly spectacular about what she has to say. The words in isolation are far more powerful than the gasping, overwrought delivery. But I suppose I have high standards.
And your oh so eloquent delivery almost made you sound like you had something original to say. Honestly, save the big words for someone who you can actually impress.
Some of the people on here making derrogatory comments, wouldn't know their dick from their ass at a gay parade. And on top of that... wouldn't know what to do with thousands of lesbians walking towards them, so keep your ugly comments to yourself -- what are you even doing on this page? -- guys, get the frickin' clue already!! You aren't wanted.
feminism has been so oft snubbed and is probably the least successful of the rights movement. they have a right to be angry. Women's Rights are human rights!
@pillbattered yeah but no more then mens rights being human rights. In which case is there still a point for womens rights in the form of femisim when we already have human rights in the form of equalism & humanism? Since we both think that human rights are important
@matthewlane yes however, the rights movement is concerned with dismantling the hierarchy of privilege, those above on the hierarchy are granted things denied or withheld from those below. women's rights are essential because in nearly all structured societies, they are secondary. which is why for rights to be universal must effort and attention must be put in this direction.
@pillbattered no there not. You have the right to work to achieve success the same way the rest of us do: Thats Equailty. No where in the western world are womens rights restricted, in fact so many consessions have been made for women that these says its men who are the second class citizens, who are demonized for there gender.
@matthewlane I understand how some people can see it that way, and you're right, there have been a lot of enormous leaps in society for women.. We have a lot more legal rights these days. However, you have to think about sexism more like racism. Even though different races of people have the same rights as white people in north america, it doesnt mean there is no longer racism. Both are just more subtle nowadays.
@auriianna much more subtle... now women have all the institutionalised rights & men get screwed over by sexism. Or did you miss the "women don't rape" rhetoric... If so go look at any newspaper story about a teacher having sex with a student. If its a man he's a monster, if its a woman chances are good the word rape will never be used & then there will be a mental health, or stress excuse given to the woman.
Thats just one example of the swing in institutionalised sexism, against men.
@matthewlane dont even get me started of paternity fraud, skewed rape numbers, skewed domestic assult numbers, or the skewed numbers of scholarships only available to women versus those open to just men or men and women. Dont even get me started on the hiring freeze on male employees in big business, so we can hire less compotent female employees (the position should go to the person with the better credentials).
@matthewlane False rape claims make up a total of O.1 percent of all rape claims. Point One. So until all of the other REAL rapes, you know that whole other 99.9 percent?! Yeah, until those STOP, your logic is bullshit and ridiculous and vengeful towards any woman that may be in your life (God Forbid you attempt this shit on them).
@pushelildaisies Nope. Sorry, to say, thats objectively wrong. Objectively verifiable data indicates that "at least" 9 percent of rape claims are false (once you've added in the manufactured incidents generated by the sexual grievance industry ). (See, e.g., S. Taylor, K.C. Johnson, "Until Proven Innocent")
But even if your 0.1% number was right, not all those people raped will be women. Quite a lot of them will be men. See rape is not a gendered crime, its a crime of oppurtunity.
@pushelildaisies You've pretty conclusively shown your hand when you said "your logic is bullshit and ridiculous and vengeful towards any woman." Rape is a terrible crime, but it is not a gendered crime. It can happen just as easily to a man as a woman. In fact rape is down by more than 85 percent since the 1970s, its now no more prevelent then any other major crime.
@pushelildaisies Fact is that like all other crimes, rape is not going to go away, so both men & women need to be more socially aware of there surroundings. Take precautions against a known possiblity, the same way you do any other negative consequence, you intend to avoid...
An most of all stop blaming men for rape. Less thne 1% of men rape... Don't hold the other 99% of us accountable, unless you want us to do the same with paternity fraud... After all 100% of paternity fraud is commited

What I may be guilty of is being overly critical, but knowing how to use the language to say what I mean is not where I am lacking.
I get tired of the navel-gazing that goes along with any activist movement. No more, no less.
