(post cont'd) I always got the feeling that she was trying to be stron, trying to put up a front but deep down there is reall sadness and hurt there. the song is much more moving at a slower tempo and much more realistic. I dont care how strong you are or how much you "understand" the situation. no on is happy to die
I disagree that the song should be uptempo. I was actually just cast in this role and I see this song completly differently then the papermill playhouse recording. Yes she doesnt want your simpathy but it doesnt change the fact that the song itself is heartbreaking.
(post continued haha) with the rest of society that is judged by god too unfit to walk the earth anymore. if you listen to the london recording sung by Frances Ruffelle i think u get the fact that she is not too happy she has to die.
i disagree, i find it to be a devestating song. in yonah's whole life she was treated horribly by society just because of a silly mark on her head, and this one family takes her in and treats her like a human being, and she falls in love with a boy, and here she is told that she has to die
what's up with the piano? lol The song works better uptempo, but she's got a lovely voice. I'd hate to have to sing to that pianist, though! Props to her for managing it!
i disagree. granted i'm a part of this project and am awkardly sitting in the background of this video, but it's a very sad song. singing it uptempo almost always loses the powerful message of this song...in my opinion. but thanks for the comment!!!
It's not sad; that's the wrong way to look at it. She's a character who doesn't WANT your sympathy. What's she's going through is hard, but it's the way her life has always been. A good actress can get that same determination with it taken uptempo. Taken too slowly, the song is dirgy and boring.
Hey I'm also a Lauren! I just put up a video of myself singing this a few days ago, check it out :) LaurenBritt17

This version she's singing sounds like it's lowered from the original key.

Lots of examples of this song here, it seems to be pretty popular. I like this singer's interpretation.

I think this a very uplifting song. What depresses me is that the video is dubbed.

yeah this is a deeply depressing song.
she's told she's going to be left to die!!!
she does however try to be as strong as she can about the situation
