There was one on a drive through menu sign and I scooped it into a cup, put a lid on it, and took it home to release it in the back yard where it would be safer. after I let it out it just looked at me. creepy n all, but I decided to just go back inside. when I got to the door I heard this clicking noise and turned around and it jumped on my face and freaked me the fuck out. bugs r bad mkay?

@suenyaz If they look like this and they are brown, then they are females and they are harmless. If you do happen to pick one up though, be sure that you put her back where you found her! Otherwise they are super fun to appreciate and are a great amount of fun to interact with.

I'm a conductor on the subways in NYC. I saw one of these standing on the edge of one of the outside platforms. When I opened the doors, It was looking up at me. I shut the doors quick. The customers would have stomped the crap out if it. That was the weirdest thing I've ever seen in the subways. I don't even know where it came from. There is a huge park near by. I just didn't know NYC had those things.

They have also been proven to show an intelligence & memory that no other insect seems to have. This info has been published. Why would anyone want to kill one? Any insect in the mantid family for that matter? I've had a few praying mantis as pets before. They definitely develop a preference toward their owner & won't go to strangers. It's odd. They will come right to you & hang out clinging on your shirt. They won't even try to fly away once they know you. It's so cool.

It's. So. Darn. Cute!! I remeber that one day, I was outside in the middle of summer running around my yard with my friends like a crazed manic when I ran by the garage and stopped dead in my tracks. I stared at this tiny praying mantis that was attempting to climb up our house. My friends wanted to smash it but stood right there infront of them. I kept them from touching it and by that evening. It had made it to the roof. I was proud and happy that I got to see such an amazing creature.
