  • takes me back to my school days when i used to hear him on BBC lol !

    you have it nailed !

  • @fingerscarr I hope you get this message I have not not sorted the new You Tube format as yet. Thank you for your message on the World of C Kunz cover I recorded Some time ago . It is always a learning curve keeping up with the You Tube Changes in format. It keeps the brain hopefully active. Although lately I do seem to forget my place at certain times. Please record the tune again without background distraction and you do need a new keyboard with a real piano sound.

    DAVID

  • @forwardtenth ...message´received ... yes irritating when they change the format .

will think of recording again but have to feel the mood lol ! cheers

  • @fingerscarr Second Part of message I can't seem to find how to send you a msg of more than 500 characters with the new system. My PSR 5000 must be 15years old and must worth at best £100. Check on E Bay to C what you can find to improve your sound input for little outlay.

    David

  • @gf1001 Thank you for your kind comment. I just found it in my spam folder. It seems that over the last few days all my You Tube Messages have ended up as spam. Usually I clear the folder without looking when it builds up. Luckily tonite I looked at the "spam " and found quite a lot of You Tube messages.

    Regards David

  • @gf1001 ... just had a listen again , no doubt about you rog. enjoyed as usual . will message soon ojc

  • Excellent. You are best on the piano. Can you give us some Robert Stolz or Franz Lehar in the 'Kunz' style?

    Dave ..

  • Charlie Kunz Is My Great Uncle No Lie

  • @simplydaysie

good to hear daysie, charlie was also ray davies dads god on piano, and left his influenence in the front parlour of rays musicibillaty

    pickerm

  • @simplydaysie Why must we have so many mishpoche claims on YouTube?

  • Lovely to hear Charlie Kunz again after all these years. I had quite a few 78s that I recorded onto tapes--they are in Australia in storage. His style is so relaxed and relaxing, toe-tapping. I play in a similar style, but have not yet got onto YouTube. Maybe one day. Thanks again.

  • just read about charlie kunz and was curious about his music. thanks a lot for this beautiful impression. it belonged to erich maria remarques favourite music. he listened to it while sitting in his villa at lago maggiore and writing breathtaking love letters to marlene dietrich... true legends.

  • I'm pleased to hear that Charlie could inspire Love Letters with his playing. There may be a chance for me yet. Regards David

  • yeah, music is the key :-)

  • Dear David I've just discovered your videos whilst looking for Charlie Kunz music. I think your playing is absolutely the tops. Thank you so much for the pleasure it has brought me. Best regards Pam (Australia)

  • Thanks for your message. I pleased you enjoy my playing. You have some very good You Tube pianists in Australia - I listen to the playing of mikewoollett and dizzysfingers, have you tried them out. Regards David

  • Closing my eyes, I'm transported back to the mid-1950's, RAF Nicosia, Cyprus... a warm evening on the verandah in Ayios Dhometios and my dad is playing Charlie, Winnie Attwell and David Whitfield records on his little green 'Elac Star' gramophone to my mum... happy days. Feels like it was yesterday, David, though they both passed away years ago. Many thanks for bringing it all back.

  • I'm so pleased that my video evoked such wonderful memories for you. Although I cannot emulate his touch and sound I was taught to play in his style ( left hand accompaniment) in the early 50's. I love playing the Kunz tunes and also the songs of David Whitfield. Regards David

  • Brilliance at work here!

  • Thank you for your kind commenthave you checked out the Real thing see the instructions on the 1934 cover - how to access Charlies Videos on ITN source. Let me know what you think Regards David

  • these songs youre playing make me feel happy and warm inside hehehe. thank you

  • Bravo!!

  • Thank you for your comment It is always good to receive feed back on a performance, as I am sure you know. I see you have the one and only Charlie Kunz video in your favourites. It is a pity that there are no others. Regards David

  • Hope to receive an anwer from you.I listen almost every day to your video.Have you got more?

    Best wishes,

    John

  • Thank you for your messages. I have been on holiday in Egypt for two weeks enjoying the brilliant sunshine and haven't had time lately to post any more vids. Re your earlier comments the songs were Clap Hands Here comes Charlie then Sleepy time girl, followed by Ukulele Lady and Guilty. I have not checked to see if there is a C K fan club but I'll have a look. Regards David

  • Again:go on in the way you're imitating Charlie Kunz.I often listen your gentle touch! You're playing very well.Could you please let me know the titles of the tunes of the video, except for "Sleepy Time Gal"?Thank you very much and forgive me my bad English!

    Jan

  • Great your imitation of Charlie Kunz.I like it very much. How delightful this almost forgotten music.I'm an admirer of Charlie since my childhood.I imitate Charlie in my way too.I'd like to ser up a fanclub.Should like to get in contact with other people who adore him.Thank you.John

  • was listening to this again without watching and really heard the c k sound coming through .

one thing i noticed about his video , and caught a glimpse of in yours , was the ebb and flow in volume in his playing , of which you could insert more into yours . it adds colour 'piano' at 1.13 then louder at 1.20 and so on ! ! cheers

  • Hi fingers I'm just back from a hol in the sun

and am catching up with messages. I note your comment, you are right Charlie did put a lot of ebb and flow in his playing. I could never figure out why he accentuated certain bits of the tunes but then that's why he was a star and I am only an amateur also ran. Regards David

  • hi david hope the holiday kept your fingers busy , at the bar ! !

was tinkering at a tune you would probably know , and if not would am sure you would like . ''roses of picardy'' and as i type comes to mind another oldie ''moonlight and roses '' . await your version ! ! lol ! !

  • good on you maestro ! ! that's how i used to play until people said it was too olod fashioned . after this shall revert . smooth man !

  • Hi Fingers. When can we look forward to your old fashioned playing on a You Tube Vid. My children had told me the same thing and that the only place I could play now was an old folks home luckily I discovered You Tube and the silver surfers still out there.

I looked at your favourites. Kylan is amazing and I'll probably never play Misty again after watching Jack Widner. Regards David

  • well i've been playing for yrs and my problem is i try too many different styles so can never , or hardly ever play anything without a mistake , so no youtube till i overcome this problem. this i can see now flows from bad habits and careless fingering over the years . must remedy first . have you listened to carmen cavallaro playing manhattan , a very much more elaborate form of charlie kunz style cheers for now

  • Another gem! You mastered the lost art, David. Thanks for bringing so much listening pleasure to the You-tube, not to mention the delightful nostalgia of what "real" piano playing should be. Hats off to you!

  • Thank you for your more than kind comments on my playing. It has to be a very limited audience I am pitching to but it is nice to get a positive feed back. Maybe one day you will tell me how you got from the "Irish catholic Bronx, with upright piano" to Nicaragua.

  • Great playing David. It's so long since I've played acoustic piano after playing my digi. keyboards and before that, mostly organs in clubland. You certainly have a good touch there.

  • Hi Derek, just back from Spain for a bit a sunshine. I too stopped playing my piano in favour of the digi with its wonderful accompaniment (which enhanced my mediochre playing). I have found it quite difficult to get back to the real thing. I am nowhere as accurate with my left hand as I used to be when I played the piano all the time. Could it be an age thing I don't want to admit to! Regards David

  • Oh yes, I think you are right about the age thing there David. My brain just simply won't pick things up like it used to especially where my left hand is concerned. At least the clavinova can sound like piano, bass and drums. I rooted out some old classical pieces from my childhood practising days, but it left me wondering if I ever really did manage to pass exams with them or if I had dreamt it! I will work on getting another video up though.

  • Hi David,

This is great.. yet another fine example of Charlie's style. You have the touch too methinks. My old dad would have loved listening to you play; for sure I do. So relaxing and sets me up for a day...

    Bravo my friend.

    regards John

  • Hi John, sorry for delay in replying, my wife and I have been to Espana for a bit of Sunshine. But it feels B****y cold here on our return. Thank you for your comments I wjust wish I have Charlies touch. Regards David

  • David,

I have to admit I never heard of Charlie Kunz before getting acquainted with you recently, but I could listen to this all day. Thanks for sharing this charming set of songs. They are awesome to watch and hear.

    Keep having fun, Tom

  • Again thank you Tom for your comments. I hope you looked at the real thing. There seems to be only one vid showing Charlie playing(It was first time that I have ever seen him)but it encouraged me to do my first Vid on You Tube. Regards David

  • Beautifully done. Bravo! You've captured this style of playing perfectly. More please.

  • Thank you for your kind comment.Although when you listen to the real thing I don't think that anyone could emulate the Kunz touch. I do enjoy playing the tunes and there are 30 songs on the old LP. Regards David
