Hey I've got a question, how come your AMS didn't fire a single round at those missile salvos? I seem to have the same problem, is there some trick to using it?
I had a great variant for the Shadowcat. No armor, fastest engine, ton of heat sinks and 5 or 6 medium pulse lasers put into 2 different groups. Constant fire at full speed while selecting through the different groups..
Never cared for the way MW3 did pulse lasers. It's supposed to be a series of short bursts, not a continuous stream (see Blood Of Kerensky trilogy, M.A. Stackpole).

MW3 had it right, that's how a series of short bursts would look like (notice that the beam fades several times) in real life, because the light beam moves so fast it's nearly instantaneous, so it will always look like a continuous stream, and not chunks of light. MW4 really screwed up there, the pulse laser looked crappy and violated physics big time (and where too weak).
Ah, MechWarrior 3. Paired with MechCommander, I felt totally immersed in the Counterattack arc. Take that, Crusader clans. I hope the Refusal War didn't hurt you much.
If you did that playing multiplayer, people would call you a "legwarrior." I also typically hated doing that, but when you're faced with multiple assault mechs and you're in some pea shooter, you have no choice. Besides, these clanners deserve it. AND you get more salvage that way, screw honor, you're in it to make a buck!
It's too bad I was young when MechWarrior 3 came out, I would of been the first one in line to get it :D. I have a burnt copy of it, but I can't even play the full campaign without it crashing. Their is also the fact that a game of this quality deserves to get paid.
I remember I customized a dire wolf/daishi so that it couldn't fire all it weapons at once. If I did it without deactivating weapon heat it'd blow up in a beautiful nuclear blast that'd take most of the mechs and surroundings with it

Developpers today become so uncomfortable, like they always worry that if they don't cram enough eye candy into their game, it's not gonna sell. And it's all that matters to them.

Ah MW3...loved that game's feel. Miss MW2's total sim feel though. I had a Masakari with one UAC20 and seven ERMedium lasers. Engage chain fire, set my thrustmaster to fire and cycle to the next weapon. Just keep clicking the trigger and place your shots and nothing could withstand that. Was medium range though so I had to swap stuff around for those long range missions :)

Took the artists at MekTek as well as a few other skilled artists who worked on the expansion for the game a few years to create textures to replace MW4's horrid textures, but they pulled it off. The current version of MW4 looks nice, but it's controls are still horrid.

I loved this game. Making custom mechs was the best part.
I had one mech (I forget what it was called, but it was one of the small ones) that I built purely to go ludacris speed. While most mechs only do 40 or so mph, I had that little bugger going over 150 (if I remember right). Wasn't overly agile at that speed nor did it have much firepower, but it was ludcarisly fast.
It runs on Vista for me with no problems after updating it to the version 1.2 patch and running it in Win 98 compatibility mode. I think the problem some people have running it is with certain newer video cards and not operating systems.
Mechwarrior 3 and 4 has its own advantages. Mechwarrior 4 did have slightly better graphics, but Mechwarrior 3 felt a lot more realistic, and you actually felt like you were shooting at something.
I remember there was a glitch you could pull in that level where you could fall thru the ground and land in an underground temple or base somehow. I cant even remember what it took but i just remember it was fun trying to get it to happen sometimes. Oh the memories of this game. Course i cheated and gave myself god mode and infinite ammo lol.

Bought MW3 on ebay and won't even load on Vista. Looks cool have to figure that one out.
MW2 audio really is cool. Soundtrack and the computer voice was spot on. Good post.
This MechWorrior game is ok. But for me by far the best game ever was Battletech. And personally I think that game came out decades ahead of its time. Fire control,splash damage,pedals for torso, unbelievable graphics.

Nulinus, your're running the wrong version of MC3 for XP, your using the 95/98 build of the game. MC3 Gold has the patch installed so it will run on windows XP. However, that version has a graphics glitch where the GUI is displaced.
@MMBNM If your talking about Alpha-Strikes then yeah. My Mech had like a thousand clanner heat-sinks and all medium pulse lasers. Nice even heat allocations. Sometimes it was like the heat wasn't even a factor. The ER-MPL settup also conserves space so you can add more. Then I used Alpha-Strike when I got into battle. Only downside was Alpha-Strike locked the redicle until I stopped firing. So I just Weapon Grouped the ER-MPLs together, then it let me fire and move my redicle at the same time.
i dont think there has been anymore well rounded and kick butt mech ever designed in such a complete manner than a madcat.. for its weight range, its simply an awesome mech that combines speed, versatility with kick-a.s.s firepower..

I am more MechWarrior 3. I have not played MechWarrior 4 simply because I don't like the look of it and how dumbed down it was (that, and I have never played it)
i have to agree, MW3 was a lot better. for instance if u get shot in the cockpit in MW3 it showed ur window all cracked and stuff, u had nothing like that in MW4, and MW4 limited the customization of your mech to different weapon types. hit me up for MW3
I always use the IS AMS whenever I am playing, and if you prefer I not use a Puma, then a 'Mech of 70-75 tons is fine with me. You can choose a Clan Omni if you prefer - I'll be willing to use an IS 75 ton 'Mech.
Legger, LOL. But it was only the comp. Actually, sometimes when I run through MW3, I do that too. But never online in MW4, sometime unintentional legging. Give me ER PPCs and Gauss Rifles all the way.
there was actually too much of that "overheating" in whole mechwarrior series, kinda fool problem but true it add some strategy to game, and happy was all the fools were overheating all the time :)

LBX is an auto cannon. It's the mechwarrior version of the shotgun.
UAC is more like an automatic rifle set to burst fire, or maybe a UMP45.
I don't really get what your point with the LBC thing is. Also, I preferred SSRM and Clan LRM because they would actually lock on. And when I didn't want AMS shooting them down I lead-aim.
sounds like a catapult to me it was easy to do that in MW4 when the mechs were all powered down all you had to do was zoom in aim and fire they woke up when they got shot didn't know what hit em sometimes they wouldn't do shit till they were badly damaged HAHAHAHA lol XD
Usually when they were powered down, it would mean that either
1) They had no pilot
2) They overheated.
When they have been overheated, they will not be able to power up until the heat dissipates. Sometimes they power up when ENTIRELY void of heat, sometimes when heat is not above "recommended level".
Well duh. Thanks for pointing out the obvious. I was saying WHY they were shut down. You were saying they were shut down because they were stupid. In essence, yeah, because they screwed up and allowed their 'mech to overheat. But they did not shut down their 'mech by themselves out of stupidity.
Unfortunately I can't play MW3 on my PC... It runs fine, except for the fact that it stutters.. Sound and video. It's ridiculous and makes it impossible to play.. It's like really bad lag on a online FPS.

They really fixed the leg fragging in MW4. In multiplayer MW4 was better in that aspect, (more balanced mech customization also, less boating)
MW3 however, had a much more interesting single player campaign.

mechwarrior 4 had prettier landscapes and the mechs were more comples, MW3 had WAY prettier cockpits and mech textures.
I also just loved the OH SHIT ITS AN ANNAHILATOR moments of MW3, there were no Mechs in MW4 that could one-shot you.

i dont think there has been anymore well rounded and kick butt mech ever designed in such a complete manner than a madcat.. for its weight range, its simply an awesome mech that combines speed, versatility with kick-a.s.s firepower..

haha i beat that game when i was a kid, i have never used a cheat and am proud to say i never will. I know the story, i played every game and read some books. see u on the battlefield, ill rape u horribly

I am more MechWarrior 3. I have not played MechWarrior 4 simply because I don't like the look of it and how dumbed down it was (that, and I have never played it)

i have to agree, MW3 was a lot better. for instance if u get shot in the cockpit in MW3 it showed ur window all cracked and stuff, u had nothing like that in MW4, and MW4 limited the customization of your mech to different weapon types. hit me up for MW3

running into a slight problem, my AMS(clan) no longer works.. even tho it did earlier today. and yes it is turned on and ive used many mechs.
pumas are too light lol id say we both get 70-75 ton mechs

I always use the IS AMS whenever I am playing, and if you prefer I not use a Puma, then a 'Mech of 70-75 tons is fine with me. You can choose a Clan Omni if you prefer - I'll be willing to use an IS 75 ton 'Mech.

there was actually too much of that "overheating" in whole mechwarrior series, kinda fool problem but true it add some strategy to game, and happy was all the fools were overheating all the time :)
Very "engineerly" made game, microsoft was best at those, hope there is coming some more

I don't think the config this guy used was really that good.
I have a better one for my madcat featuring some pulse lasers, a UAC20 with 30 shots, and a LRM, I forget which size.

LBC..
LBX is an auto cannon. It's the mechwarrior version of the shotgun.
UAC is more like an automatic rifle set to burst fire, or maybe a UMP45.
I don't really get what your point with the LBC thing is. Also, I preferred SSRM and Clan LRM because they would actually lock on. And when I didn't want AMS shooting them down I lead-aim.

sounds like a catapult to me it was easy to do that in MW4 when the mechs were all powered down all you had to do was zoom in aim and fire they woke up when they got shot didn't know what hit em sometimes they wouldn't do shit till they were badly damaged HAHAHAHA lol XD

Usually when they were powered down, it would mean that either
1) They had no pilot
2) They overheated.
When they have been overheated, they will not be able to power up until the heat dissipates. Sometimes they power up when ENTIRELY void of heat, sometimes when heat is not above "recommended level".

Well duh. Thanks for pointing out the obvious. I was saying WHY they were shut down. You were saying they were shut down because they were stupid. In essence, yeah, because they screwed up and allowed their 'mech to overheat. But they did not shut down their 'mech by themselves out of stupidity.

Unfortunately I can't play MW3 on my PC... It runs fine, except for the fact that it stutters.. Sound and video. It's ridiculous and makes it impossible to play.. It's like really bad lag on a online FPS.

was remade with todays graphics. Not being a graphic whore here. I still play the 2, the 3 and the 4 much more then I play ANY OTHER GAME I OWN. It was just a random idea.
Maybe replacing the games Graphics engine with the crisis engine (crytek 2). Like some random modder did with TES: Oblivion... Oh god I just shot an orgasm!
Although. You wouldn't be able to do to share it with everyone else. Because you will be owned by copyright :(
