I agree with most everything he said, except the "shave your armpits" comment. That seemed very incongruous with, or irrelevant to, (extraneous, if you will), his main point. My best guess is that he was trying to throw in a little comedy at the moment.
Also, he is self-contradictory when he first says, "protesting failed" and then later he says "protesting is great". Again, he is a very smart guy, and I like his wit, I'm simply being a stickler, here
His point about shaving your armpits was that your not going to win the hearts and minds of conservative voters when you come across as a dirty angry hippy. Try cleaning up and present a logical argument. Drop the patchouli oil and pick up some dial soap. David Cross is genius.
Well, in defense of the "left"...I think the media's portrayal of the left tends to focus on the goofballs and give off bad impressions. I know he's joking...but women shouldn't necessarily have to "shave their armpits," if they don't want to. I dunno, perhaps dressing real loud is a problem. But what does this mean? Should we wear business suits instead? Dress more conservatively?
by shaving armpits he means actually do something that will make a difference. it doesn't matter how you dress because that doesn't effect anything. instead of worrying how you look, actually do something.
Also, I like how he makes the point that you cant shove your belief in peoples faces and expect them to think about your cause, this may be the single most useful advice for any protester around the world, especially during this time of war.
This is the most lucid, calm and sensible I've ever seen him. Either he was seriously medicated during the video, or he is on serious drugs during TV appearances and red carpet events. He makes many good points, and really, all the Grrlz should shave the pits, put away the face paint and put on their shirts. It's hard to take a woman seriously when she looks like Robin Williams.
I love David Cross' humor. I'm a big fan.
