Now, this is what I call, "Epic". This is fucking genius dialogue, right here. I mean, sure, this was only '96, but, seriously, back then, did anybody else actually believe that we would evolve as much as we have, with cell phone's, internet, video games, and whatnot? Remember, '96 was 15 year's ago, which was a pretty long time ago, and things have advanced, to the point, people are more obsessed than Chip. Plus, this movie is the shit. It's Jim Carrey's best one, hand's down, in my opinion.
@Cakerolled That's what I was thinking, this wasn't at all groundbreaking predictions for the mid 90s. These kids born in the 90s act like people had no clue at all as to what the near future could hold. At that time people always speculated just how far the internet or "information superhighway" would take us. These predictions were common place. Now if this was from 1986 or even 1990, then yeah it would be wildly ahead of it's time with these predictions.
ok, so because of this movie, 'play mortal kombat with your friend in vietnam' is synonymous in my house with online gaming. when i head off upstairs to play MW2 online, i just tell my wife i'm going to play mortal kombat with my friend in vietnam.
wow, thanks for posting this, I was looking for this scene for my blog. So many people are saying television is dead or dieing thanks to the internet. Well guess what, that's what they said about the radio when TV first came along. But people still listen to the radio... it just had to go through a major change. The same goes for TV. And who's to say that when people are watching last night's TV shows on the web they're not watching TV, anyway?
we see movies and think that they are just fiction. but there is more to sci-fi movies that we think. some sci-fi movies are just hinting us about the future and the truth.
@eizojblpro Hinting us about the future? This movie was made in 1996. The internet was well developed by then and online gaming was available. Granted that Mortal Kombat was not playable on-line at that time, however many PC games were. This was hardly a glimpse into the future. If anything it was stating the (past) present. About 90% of the people on here probably didn't bother with the net till the 00's, and have no idea what a BBS is. N00bs!
didn't they use this in a cable commerical?
