  • How delightful....thanks so much for uploading for all to enjoy!!

  • meant holmes grrrr thats how angry i get jeremy was a millionen times the man Benedict Cumberbatch is or ever will be hope new star trek he does better than at moment and its not benedicts himself i dislike its his acting of sherlock if he had a job say as doctor who or somthing he prob be best doctor who ever but no one can beat jeremy brett he was sherlock holmes well he was better than holmes lol

  • @waterpimpernell The two have totally different takes on Holmes. There's not really any point comparing them. They don't even take place in the same time. Anyway, the idea that because he's not AS GOOD as Brett he can't be good at all is a complete fallacy. As is the idea somebody must be wrong if they have taste that differs from yours. Personally, I love them both as Holmes.

  • why and how im sorry but how on gods green earth can anyone like Benedict Cumberbatch as

holes he cant act he is boring he rants and well he is unbelievable jb was holmes the end

  • Sherlock Holmes and Chuck Norris had a fight. Whoever won got the apartment on Baker Street.

That's how badass awesome Holmes is.

  • I grew up watching Brett reruns on ITV3 with my parents, so naturally he's my favourite Holmes, notwithstanding his absolutely amazing performances, though Benedict Cumberbatch is taking a closer second than I thought anyone ever would.

  • Jeremy Brett is my favorite Sherlock Holmes. He even smokes a churchwarden.

  • I think the whole Brett vs Rathbone is really unfair, after all it should be more like: 1939 vs 1980's

  • What's with this rathbone vs brett thing? Brett was utterly sublime. Rathbone was put in some truly abysmal films, but always utterly transcended them with his effortless performance. They both embodied the role in their own unique ways. Let's just appreciate them both for what they brought to the character.

  • I like that the house is completely butterfly themed. Back then, butterflies weren't just for girls. :) So you see boys, it's okay to like butterflies! No one's gonna think you're stupid, or insane! :) In fact, a lot of girls like guys strong enough to be themselves!

  • @nineteenthcenturyeng you have people like Jack Stapleton... and Holmes spends his retirement beekeeping. I wouldn't say they were the best examples of sanity, but they definitely deviously minded people...

  • If you consider so, sign "Give Jeremy Brett A Posthumous BAFTA Award" petition.

  • @codrutasalomia Yes, and don't wait, there is only one month left!

  • @codrutasalomia

how bout givin' jeremy brett 480p?

  • Best Holmes ever.

  • I did not know that Edward had died. Saw it to day. A sad day....

R.I.P Jeremy and Edward. You will be remembered as the best Holmes and Watson on film ever....

  • Absolutely great scene: 3:02-3:36. Horribly realistic when it comes to addicted people and their friends.

  • Watson: Holmes is a sick man!

Homes: *deadly cough* yes *cough* but getting better, Watson

  • i love him

  • I much prefer Rathbone, but I did like Brett, I feel so sorry he was in such pain filming the final shows he did, and commend him for working so hard through his pain.

  • see the featured video

  • What's the name of the song at the start?

  • What's the name of the song in the start.

  • i start to cry when i see sherlock holmes with that needle, such genius should never be enslaved by drugs.

  • @doctorw2

he is a human being not a slave of your opinions and belief we all live here once after than we may never experience anything also not everything is equal its a reality cheque even the grey hairs in your granny vagina is outdated

  • @blackoil911 you shouldnt go around shagging other peoples grans and lookink in their vaginas you dirty little bastard.

  • @doctorw2

its just fact and your opinion is just as accurate and me telling you to go fuck yourself Sherlock had a right to do what he did

  • I fucking love Jeremy Brett.

    Thanks for uploading :D

  • 7 people are in the employ of the Professor

  • Jeremy Brett is Sherlock Holmes, end of discussion.

  • Oh that laugh from 5:13 to 5:21! JB, I so adore you.

  • Poot Watson.....everytime he manages to get Holmes out of London for some much needed r & r something terrible happens.

  • To all English and American directors - what have you done with Watson? When Conan Doyle wrote the Holmes stories, he was about 30! Read the books, guys. I'm glad that Russia has shown the world what Watson looked like. Vitaly Solomin is the best Watson of all time. Jude Law is number two. I'm sorry for people who watch these old Watsons. A soldier who has recently graduated from a medical university, a good sportsman who married a young woman. You've ruined the great character!

  • @Kharlamov16 Ok

  • @fugazi233 Watson took his degree in medicine in 1978. He met Holmes in 1981. Most cases involved young Holmes and Watson. Does it make any sense? Conan Doyle was born in 1859. Did the director of this series read Arthur Conan Doyle? I wonder why English and American directors choose pensioners to play the great characters. I guess Russia is the only country that has respect for Conan Doyle. Now I understand why Conan Doyle's daughter was happy when she saw the Russian series.

  • @fugazi233 Watson was a very attractive young man in his mid 20-s. He was a good sportsman. He could box and run very well. What is this series about? Holmes, who shouts all the time, gives Watson ( an old man man) hard time all the time. I'm so sorry that people admire this series without having read the book. Watch the Russian series. They don't speak English but at least they look like Holmes and Watson!

  • @Kharlamov16 Is the russian series set in london ,bakerstreet ect.? or is it set in russia? What's the russian show called ? where can I find it ? Amazon?

  • @fugazi233 It was set in Russia and some other countries like Lithuania. You can watch it right here on youtube. Somebody put subtitles in it.

  • @fugazi233 I've been told that the series was aired in England back in 1980-s. The Queen was impressed with it. Vasily Livanov who played Holmes was awarded the OBE. Unfortunately, Vitaly Solomin is dead-(((

  • Holmes is bundled up like a tamale. XD

  • jeremy brett is as fruity as the day is long but you gotta love him!!!:) he's awesome!!!!

  • 7.33 Safer

  • one. why is it that whenever they go on some holiday holmes is wrapped up like a christmas gift in blankets and watson sits there normal?

two. Yay holmes is kicking the habit. go holmes

  • Man, I hope I never go to a beach after Holmes has been there XD

Is he high when he's talking to the neighbour in that first scene, or is that just his normal weirdness?

  • great this asshole burys the syringe in the sand so some poor fellow can come by and step on it!

  • @sprucepantherkmt That's why this episode is called the Devil's Foot!

  • Is Jeremy wearing a toupee in this episode. The top of his head is black and sort of doesn't blend with the rest of the hair on the sides. Enjoying the episodes. Thank you.

  • @SwathiPallavi I don't think he's wearing a toupee; it looks to me like the hair on the sides is just reflecting the light from the windows making it look lighter than on top. On the other hand, Edward Hardwicke IS wearing a toupee.

  • that's cool!!!

  • jeremy brett rules!!

  • thanks a lot for the uploads.. real delight to watch good old sherlock holmes

  • is that one of doyle's novels ??

  • @TheUAEmentor Devil's Foot is one of the short stories. There's 56 short stories, along with 4 novels (even those are pretty short, not huge tomes). It's easy to go through a short story or three in a day. It's public domain, so you can Google it and legally free to read them online (though I recommend buying them ;) )

  • @Calvero52 I'm a slow reader, but I think I managed to pull off five or six stories in a day (a day being about eight to twelve hours, but not spent entirely in reading). The novels took a little longer though. They are excellent stories, and I must agree that they should be purchased if at all possible. :)

  • i was thrilled to see how Holmes dropped the habit.

  • Buried a syringe on the beach......Hope I never run across that beach with barefoot! :P

    Love JB!

  • Buried a syringe on the beach......Hope I never run across that beach with barefoot! :P

    Love JB!

  • 3:25 lol, Holmes got busted. =D

  • Come Watson, Deduce... Deduce... =D

  • London was a fucked up place back then. :)

  • As a mother, it makes me cringe to see what he does when he gets rid of certain items. . . ewwwwwwww lol

  • @Songsmirth well put! ...I cringed too and felt a certain reassurance that othes noticed and made time to comment as a point of consciousness rather than a judgement TY

  • @gaiagale Well put. I enjoy speaking with well thought out people on YT. You're right. Some on YT just make out a black and white point without really thinking of the "consciousness" of the item being discussed. I really wish YT would get rid of the underaged people. I don't know how they'd do that but I only say it because I'm tired of the cussing and immature statements of some. Calling people's statements, "gay' is one of them. I like to discuss a subject not call it names. You? :)

  • It's interesting that they include Sherlock's cocaine addiction. Most don't. He would get bored in between cases. . Sort of like the way General Grant would drink. When he wasn't doing any thing between campaignes/battles and away from his wife. I've never seen this one Anish! Thank you. He was/is my favorite. The actor's pool lost a talented brother. .

  • aw, brett looks rather aging in this one than in others. I heard he was suffering from a disease? (real life)

  • BETTER or AT LEAST EQUAL TO the book!

  • One thing I've noticed both cannot live without, Watson insisting on being fed and Holmes being kept warm!

  • JEREMY BRETT WAS THE BEST SHERLOCK HOLMES..EVER... RIP JEREMY

  • interesting to see the holmes character evolve thru film all the way up to robert downy!holmes, like hamlet, will never be a static hero, but evolve to new potrayals .the original james bond archetype.brett's smug conciet, intellectual arrogance,as sherlock handled so wonderfully.he is holmes to me

  • Is Holmes trying to kick the habit? An interesting notion. I always liked this story

  • God, it hurts me when Hardwicke has to say that line: "Death is always with us." It's so straightforward, and you just know where Jeremy's mind must have gone when he heard it. And I bet Hardwicke knew it and felt bad for having to say it, too... Oi - makes the heart jump just a bit.

  • I can't help wonder if Holmes suffered for clinical depression, thus making his cocaine use an attempt at self-medication. Look at how Brett portrayed Homes--lack of appetite, mood swings, his inability to withstand inactivity. Back in those days, he would have been on his own when it came to treatment.

  • @TheKulu42 Hmmm... That makes a lot of sense. Great theory. ^^

  • @Cloudminty Thank you. Except perhaps for Watson, Holmes would have had little sympathy from his fellow Victorians. Psychology was in its infancy, and the brain's functions were little understood. Even today, sufferers of clinical depression are too often told to get hold of themselves and cheer up. That's like telling a diabetic that he /she can overcome the disease with will power.

  • @Cloudminty I spoke to a friend and fellow Holmes fan about this depression theory, and she suggested that Holmes may have been bipolar. His sudden mood swings suggest this, so it's a sound theory. And again, he may have been trying to self medicate with cocaine.

  • what happened to holmes to be going on holiday to recuparate?

  • @roofiegoofie I checked the original story. It seems Holmes was suffering for overwork and, Watson hints, cocaine use. Holmes habitually overworked himself.

  • He buried a needle on the beach?! Where does he think he is? New Jersey?!?!

  • @decidererer lol xD

  • @decidererer lol. They do this in New Jersey? I'm from Montana but I get that there is a, "thing" between people from New York and New Jersey? Is that correct and if so why? Is it just a silly thing between the two? Do you know what started it or is it a thing no one knows and just does because it's a set silly joke? Thanks Decider. :)

  • This'll always be one of my favourite episodes, along with The Empty House and The Cardboard Box. I get so sad when Holmes says 'Quite so.' R.I.P Mr.Brett.

  • LOL, you KNOW he had to be high if he accepted dinner at the vicarage! Holmes HATES socializing! And the look on Watson's face when the vicar showed up RIGHT AFTER Holmes had shot up! You could tell he was silently praying that this wouldn't be another "Musgrave dinner" fiasco!

I was quite proud of Holmes for voluntarily giving up the cocaine. That's my boy!

  • I think this is better than the book.

  • oh eww.

i hate sherlock in this one

hes an absolute druggie...isn't at all the sharp minded sherlock holmes

  • this is what wikepedia said:

In the Granada Television version starring Jeremy Brett, a sequence is added showing Holmes burying his cocaine syringe in the sand during a walk on the beach. Apparently Jeremy Brett had become concerned about his character's drug habit, sought and received permission from Conan Doyle's heirs to have Holmes give up the habit.wow

  • Thanks for uploading!

  • he would shoot coke or heroin?

  • jeremy brett = all time best sherlock holmes actor

  • @DemMedHornene- I agree of all the actors that have played Sherlock Holmes Jeremy Brett has been by far the best and most believable RIP

  • @DemMedHornene i personaly tink robert downey jr. was 10000000Xs better. same for jude law as watson.(2009-2010 movie)

  • @xXDarkness101Xx i'll admit that robert is a better actor but he do not have the personality of jeremy brett acting as sherlock holmes, if you read one of two of the books and then watch jeremy brett acting you will quickly see that he is perfect for the role as sherlock

  • @DemMedHornene well, ill have to take your word for it since ive only seen the new movie and never read any of the books(though im DIEING to) but i will always think the robert was better for sherlock and jude law for watson. im not changing my mind

  • @xXDarkness101Xx Well try reading the stories, I'm afraid you won't find all that many explosions and larger than life CGI effects though, plus a main character with a constant case of five 'o clock shadow,

Conan Doyle wasn't writing Indiana Jones adventure stories.

  • @DemMedHornene Is, Was, and always shall be.

  • @mahound9 So very true and also i am really fond of all the episodes they have on youtube very jolly indeed

  • Comment removed

  • @dhongorom Well then you are a fool :)

  • @DemMedHornene ya but not as much as you are.

  • @dhongorom well I do not care if you think he's the best, this is a jeremy brett movie so keep your filthy mouth away from here

  • Comment removed

  • @dhongorom I grew up watching Basil play Holmes. He sucks balls compared to Brett. His "over-acting is done so well and honestly that is amazing to see. Of course you are a video game addict with no clue.

  • @SciMasterGeneral Brett sucks balls compared to Basil Rathbone

  • @97542551 You can't spell 'pretty' and you call someone a dumbass?

And could anyone not watch an entire Sherlock Holmes episode? ;)

  • What are Holmes dressing like? O_0 (9:00)

  • Sherlock Holmes makes the most wonderful Slashfiction. >:D

  • Do you know dinner...at the vicarage...is a splendid idea!

  • There isn't anything in Genesis 13 about homosexuality. Its just about Abraham and fam, and Lot and wife escaping and thinking how beautiful and green Sodom was and how the Lord was going to kill everyone and destroy all the innocent life(animals plants) there too. Then Abraham talks to God, and God says if you can find ten men who are pretty much perfect, Ill spare the city. Thats it. Of course, Abe can't.

  • @lollipopfop

    Sodom wasn't exactly innocent.

Sodom and Gomora was pretty much a really horible place.

That's why when god's angel comes to Lot's family to tell them of the destruction, the towns people demand them to be handed, for them to torture.

In modern day, some interpret sodom and gomora as city of homosexuality.

and when the angel comes the town peoples want to screw them, that's how it was interpreted it.

He is kind and forgiving though many times He is strict, for us, humans

  • you need to upload the episode of the illustrious client!

  • burying a hypodermic needle in the sand?! um?! dangerous!

  • @TeppeiDog1 agreed

  • "Deduce, Watson, deduce!"

  • worsed holmes ever so depressing why all in black looks like a villain!

  • So you subscribe to the Snidely Whiplash philosophy, wherein everyone who wears black MUST be a villain? What about Abraham Lincoln? Or Audrey Hepburn, or Jackie Onassis Kennedy?

  • funnier than the book

  • pardon my nerdiness, but good GAWD Jeremy Brett would have been magnificent in the role of Severus Snape.

  • @turtlewings wt a thought.....!

  • @turtlewings yes agreed..

  • @turtlewings what about Alan Rickman playing a sherelock holmes?

  • @UglyBetty70 that would be insanely hot.

  • @turtlewings What an excellent excellent observation.

  • @turtlewings i dont think so there are some charecters u cant take over

  • @turtlewings I was just thinking how similar Alan Rickman and Jeremy Brett seemed to me. Even when I was 11 I watched the harry potter movies and watched these sherlock holmes movies and I always had a crush on both and now I see how similar they are. In movement- the way they glide around and are always so commanding and in control, in the tone of their voice, even in similar looks- the nose, arch of the brow, their height and build. I thought I was the only one to think of them in reverse.cool

  • @turtlewings i agree with you perfectly. :)

  • @turtlewings That's exactly what I thought when I saw him first.

  • Is there an episode with Jeremy Brett were Dr Fraud helps him kick his cocain habbit?? I know i saw it ..or am i crazy??

  • @dragonking134 it's a movie called The Seven-Per-Cent Solution

  • YES I had so hoped to be able to watch this. It's one of my favourite Holmes stories (for its creepiness)!

  • I don't get how this part has more than 40,000 views, but part two has only 25,000.

How can that many people not watch the rest of this film????

  • @NatureLover987 makes sense to me! Most people are stupid and that makes them think they are smart.

  • Nobody does it better than these two

  • veteese1......facts and Sources...please..

  • Um. I'm not going to list my late friend's information on "You Tube" to satisfy some idiot.

    Bible Reference: Genesis 13

As a Lutheran I suggest the King James Version; though you may read what you like.

Nevertheless... I'm through with this discussion.

  • ERM,,....Because you made Him/she /it up.....

ohhh...now for part 2...Bible bashing time....Sorry to burst your Bubble but the "Holy Bible" is a "Manmade book".....you are so lame......

  • If you don't want to consider the Bible as historical literature that is fine. Just do some reading about Oscar Wilde and his goal sentence. Okay?

  • barnabas...

here you go again bible bashing......oscar wilde died years ago....grow up and smell the coffee...

  • LMAO... YES the great homosexual of Victorian; who went to goal for homosexual activity in Victorian times; died... in Victorian times.

Really, you are just embarrassing yourself now.

  • erm...there was no "great homosexual of Victorian"........fact and sources please....if it ever existed it was underground..... it was against the law....forbidden.....read your bible...

  • Barnabashfred.

Bible Ref is Manmade.AND WAS NOT MADE IN THE vICTORIAN TIMES...

  • Thought we were gonna be pals.

  • The scene at around 5:09 is brilliant, as is the maniacal laughter afterwards. You can watch Brett's Holmes time after time and never get bored with them. The later series when his health was visibly failing him aren't as good but there still fine TV.

  • I love SH like hell...I have complete collection of the novels and I do not let anybody touch them.....

  • me too!

  • the lead actor is fabulous and inspiring

  • I wish I could figure out people like that XD

  • I prefer Basil Rathbone. He had a better arrogance to the role however the entire co-starring ruined the series as watson and lestrade were portrayed as incompetent fools

  • There will never be a Sherlock Holmes quite like Jeremy Brett. RIP.

  • i agree. Jeremy Brett was the best.

  • To me, Jeremy Brett will always be Sherlock Holmes. I know some people say Basil Rathbone because he was the original or something, but Rathbone's series just didn't get the dynamic between Holmes and Watson right. This series got it spot on and that is why it's my favourite.

  • I agree with you. The Rathbone series just made Watson look like a total moron. He only looked dumb compared to Holmes, in the story, and they were very close freinds--the freindship just isn't there, believable, in the Rathbone ones. Though I think Rathbone was a genius and good holmes and maybe looked abit more like story-book holmes. But Brett just IS Holmes--Not just in looks. Brett is #1 Holmes!
