Here's the thing. The Hosts were indeed wonderful and the Show is wonderful. Anthony Bourdain is great. Saudis are also great.
But this is Keeping up Appearances. This kind of arrangement would be totally unacceptable to most in Saudi culture.
Heck, Cameras? Most men on the Streets would throw FISTS if they saw you filming their Women. And a young Saudi woman strolling the streets with a middle-aged White American man? With Cameras all around?

They won't even allow non-muslims to step foot in Mecca. Like what is called Israel you can not go some religion places because you are not a Jew, so this is a religion tradition, that you do have to respect .
The Saudis really need to ease up on the control of their women. As an American conservative I can sympathize with not wanting to allow culture and values to go too far down the drain. But sometimes you can go too far in trying to stop that from happening. I also think people are too fanatical about their religion in Saudi Arabia. They won't even allow non-muslims to step foot in Mecca.
First of all, I agree with you on giving women some freedom and I beleive they will get it but it's just a matter of time. you know how long it took for the women and slaves to get their rights in western societies.
however, a liberal from Norway or Sweeden views american conservatives the same way you view religous people from the whole Middle East.

الحجاب الكامل تغطي كافة بدنها بما في ذلك وجهها وكفيها فالوجه مجمع الجمال والحسن و(الفتن) فإذا رأيت امرأه وجهها حسن او اقل من ذلك قلت امرأه جميله او قبيحه او متوسطة الجمال حتى لو كانت مغطيه شعرها.. أخرج ابن أبي حاتم عن سعيد بن جبير قال : يسدلن عليهن من جلابيبهن وهو القناع فوق الخمار ولا يحل لمسلمة أن يراها غريب إلا أن يكون عليها القناع فوق الخمار وقد شدت به رأسها ونحرها .. انت تقول الدين الوسطيه وانا اقول نعم كلامك صحيح فلو ترانا في السعوديه كيف نعامل النساء لقلت نعممم انها ملكــة

بل و يميزهن عن بقية النساء. فالآية تبدأ بقوله تعالى (يا نساء النبي لستن كأحد من النساء إن اتقيتن)
أما حكاية قرر العلماء، فهذي يرد عليها قول الإمام ابن مالك، فقول كم عالم غير ملزم، بالإضافة إلى أنه لا يوجد إجماع على شمول نساء المسلمين بهذا الخطاب.
أنت ترى أنه زمن أنصاف الرجال و غيرك يرى أنه زمن أنصاف العقول و غيري يرى أنه زمن الرويبضة و كل يضع نفسه قيّما على زمننا هذا.

great job sister dania!! it's defintely a picture that many people aways wanted to see, inside saudi. it's not a picture of the daily life of a commoner but that's not what it was suppose to be. It shows the human side of saudi arabia that Anthony Bourdain appreciated and enjoyed and what the west needs to see.

The Saudis really need to ease up on the control of their women. As an American conservative I can sympathize with not wanting to allow culture and values to go too far down the drain. But sometimes you can go too far in trying to stop that from happening. I also think people are too fanatical about their religion in Saudi Arabia. They won't even allow non-muslims to step foot in Mecca.

First of all, I agree with you on giving women some freedom and I beleive they will get it but it's just a matter of time. you know how long it took for the women and slaves to get their rights in western societies.
however, a liberal from Norway or Sweeden views american conservatives the same way you view religous people from the whole Middle East.
Religion is part of the history of that area. Actually the area is the birth place of the major religions.

Hi Daniel,I used to be a frequent visitor at Utube and the most popular keyword for searching videos for me is saudi, but this saturday morning after a long pause turned out to be a v gud one as the whole documentary videos were really interesting and amazing to watch. Can I get an opportunitiy too?? just kidding .keep posted with more similarly amazing videos so that i dont need to go about searching... :-)
