  • And the perfect way to reduce wages is what happened when Reagan took office and it's what happened again when Dubbya took office: "LOWER TAXES MEAN LOWER WAGES" It's that simple

  • Maddow learn well from hate radio rush. Every night maddow incites hate. Rush does it for 3 hours Maddow is so good only need 1 hour. To spew hate against a policitcal party and its poeple. Who nexts?? Why do people feed the fires of hate?

  • You must be on some real bad drugs, bro!

  • Are you so deaf not to hear the hate? Are you so blinded by your politic no to see the hate? If only maddow program brought out the good in all of us. Would we not be a better people? Every night spew the hate. Day in and day out.

  • I only hear sarcasm aimed at theGOP, not hate. You wearing ear plugs?

  • Are you/we as a people so deaf? Hate is hate label it gop or something other. As jesus said with love. Do on to others as you would have to do on to yourself. If maddow done a 1 hour completely on maddow. Do you think the hate maddow show for others be the same? Stop and listen and think. Why all the hate?

  • Maddow is so ingulf in hate. If only maddow can see the light of the love of people. If only the 3 million viewers seen maddow showing how we care and love for one another. Show the good deeds done out of love and the betterment of the human race. Haters like maddow start wars and dehuman people. She would have been a good nazi if born in that time.

  • I believe Bush and his neo-con friends started the war, not Maddow. You flunk History, too?

  • No matter how many times you say "hate", it still doesn't apply. Hate is a strong feeling of dislike on the plain existence of an entity or concept. Maddow, and everyone listening to her, pretty much are just angry towards the hypocrisy, inefficiency, obstructionism, and hyperpartisanship of Republicans.

  • Rachel Maddow is so full of hate. Becuase nature played a trick on her. Should have been a man in a female body. Now she talks only hate. Poor thing and I mean thing. When the power of love rules over the love of power there will be no more hate. Jimi hendrix..........

  • lou737..Hate? You're an idiot. Maddow puts it out there for all to see with no animosity what-so-ever. You want HATE? Listen to Limbaugh or Hannity. Now, that's HATE.

  • I don't listen to hate radio. Maddow is a TV hater she is full is hate

  • Hey Lou, Fox has Hannity and others that when it comes to hate they can't be topped! You're a perfect example of of eyes wide shut when it comes to what you choose to believe.

  • Hannity is a moran. But maddow is a hater. Pure hate comes from the mouth of maddow.

  • @lou737 0

How does Maddow incite hatred here?

    Or anywhere?

    Examples? Citations?

OR don't you like the truth?

Fact is now, 2 yrs later, GM has a record year. Record high bonuses for the CEOs and the stock holders. The workers? Still the same rotten pay the the GOP wanted to lower their wages to.

  • Lou...OH, i see. A homophobe. Since she's not your kind of woman she's a hate monger. That explains your ignorance.

  • No she/he is a hater because of who she/he is not what he/she is. homophobe? More like hetophobe hater.

  • Are you a memeber of the neo-nazi party?

  • If you watched Countdown the day after this aired, you are aware of the 'Republican Action Alert' sent to GOP senators from a Republican lobbyist: This is the Democrats first opportunity to pay off organized labor after the election . . . a precursor to card check and other items, said the memo. Republicans should stand firm and take their first shot against organized labor, instead of taking their first blow from it.

  • I don't see it quite like that. I see it more as if the Republicans would've been in control instead of the Dems, the bailout would have passed in another form. Why? Because Repulicans don't want to ruin their chances in 2010 & 2012 by putting up to 6 million Americans out of work. They fought this bill on standard GOP anti union rheteric, knowing full well it would pass. But their posturing is meant to show the base that they stood their ground. What a bunch of COWARDS!

  • sep0507, I was not posturing a position. I was simply quoting the Dec 12, 2008, Republican Action Alert which was sent to GOP Senators by Republican lobbyists prior to the House voting for the loan. It stated, "This is the Democrats first opportunity to pay off organized labor after the election . . . a precursor to card check and other items, said the memo. Republicans should stand firm and take their first shot against organized labor, instead of taking their first blow from it."

  • Yo Dawg, didn't say YOU were posturing. I said the Republicans were. I know all about their efforts to side with the foreign mfgs in their home states and the best way to do that would be bust the UAW. If the UAW is weakened by their efforts, than the desire to unionize is lessened at the foreign mfgs. These southern republicans won't stand up for American workers because they're anti-union, on secret there.

  • When the bankers showed up with their hands out, the congress couldnt fill up the trough fast enough for the swine to dine. They didnt insist on a single bank employee taking a pay cut. They are white collar workers. The auto workers are blue collar. This is the difference. The Republicans who blocked this bailout all have foreign auto companies in their states. Dont forget this in 2010. The Republicans need to lose more seats. Workers wont win til we get rid of the Republican Reicht.

  • The Republicans are trying to bust the unions. Reagan did it with the airlines and look how that turned out. The average mid-level auto worker earns $58,000 per year. The chief executive of a Standard & Poor's 500 company made, on average, $14.2 million in total compensation in 2007, according to preliminary data from The Corporate Library. It isnt the workers who decide what to produce, it is the executives. The executives are the reason the automakers are failing!

  • The GOP; doing all it can to destroy America in the name of mindless greed.

  • I thin they want to destroy America and blame it all on Obama

  • @Travelwise65 It's Osamao and the commie libturds who are out to destroy America so they can turn us into a communist country.

  • @DarrelfromZeeland communist like telling us we cant watch mtv or listen to music?

  • @DarrelfromZeeland have u ever read the bible?

  • Sweet Jesus I hate Republicans! Rachel is right. Democrats should MAKE them Filibuster but they wont because they suck too. Unions built the American middle class. This is why Repugs hate them because they want us all as indentured servants if not slaves. It is class war and THEY are winning. WE have the numbers. Time to take to the streets and take out power back.

  • @Dacktyl I'd love to see the fatass union slugs try taking to the streets and getting their sorry asses handed to them by the police and military, preferably using live ammo.

  • @DarrelfromZeeland gee! You type so tough! Typical cowardly right-wing thug showing his ugly soul behind a veil of anonymity. Unions built this country you ungrateful slug. Deal with it.

  • @DarrelfromZeeland everyone has a right to protest YOUR THE COMMIE DARELL!!! GET OUT OF MY COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!

  • The republicans killed the auto bailout so they could cause an economic depression and then blame it on Obama next year. That's typical of them.

  • Exactly!! With the help of Fox News, they will continue throwing dirt at OBAMA till he leaves office (and there will be no Alan Colmes to save us from Hannity)

  • Heather, this type of post is what we need right now! Rachel is right on, as usual, we need to follow this path! Please work your magic to make this an issue! It is time to go on OFFENSE! Class warfare is real and republicans will lose if we play it right! We will all suffer if we stop making things in this country!

  • This video is from the original broadcast (6 PM PT). Several hours later, the loan/bailout failed because the UAW refused to accept the GOP demand that they fall in-line (wages and benefits) with the non-union workers of the foreign automakers that permeate the southern states. These are your senators that put ideology first and the American worker last! Hey McConnell (who happens to be married to Secretary of Labor, Elaine Chao), enough with the $71 per hour lie!

  • I dont get this.

Its a fact which has been spoken about by the Auto Union leader that the union has already agreed to bring worker pay closer to foriegn company pay.

They also allow for new workers to be paid alot less.

Maybe republicans were asking for even more sacrifices then foriegn car company workers have to deal with, but as for the way they are talking throughout this video, the workers have agreed to a fair degree to whats been asked of them.

  • Looks like the GOP has ties to foreign car companies and saudi oil companies. So the confederates hooked up with the cowboys and the Bush clan, and conspired with foreigners to ruin America. Is this Treason?

  • The wages are not the issue. THE CARS SUCK. That's the problem, its got nothing to do with wages. Two factors brought the car industry down - the decreasing quality beginning in the late 1960s and the increase of better-quality (more reliable) same-priced imports. Honda has perfected the 4-cylinder engine. Why didn't Ford? Its just no vision, bad management, greedy lazy CEOs. ITS NOT THE WORKER PAY, ITS THE PRODUCT THAT NO ONE WANTS THAT THE WORKERS ARE MAKING!!

  • Ford has perfectly good cars in Europe. They just didn't think Americans wanted them honestly. The market demanded SUV's, so that's what they built. Management screwed up, I won't argue that! Ford's got the best chance of pulling out of this mess, because they actually have the product. Now they just need to shift production, and for that they need time.

  • johnedwards1968: Agreed about Ford, I drive a 1998 Explorer V8 I bought new, its been one of my best cars and I've had Hondas and a Nissan Maxima. But its not really true that the market demanded SUVs. We buy what's available, but that doesn't mean that's what we demand. Now that the Prius is available it appears that there's now demand for it, but there's been demand for it long before its become available. That could only be discovered by survey of potential car buyers.

  • I think both scenarios might be a little bit true. There definitely was a demand for SUVs.

  • johnedwards1968: I think you're right. I got one for my family because I didn't want a van, minivan or station wagon. I think there's still a demand, just the supply so saturated the market because they were high profit items. My Explorer is basically an F150 pickup truck, with the obvious modifications, for $32,000.00. I still say the issue of wages has no bearing on the crisis the car companies are in, and the workers should not be liable by having their wages cut by Congress.

  • Not to be a dick but if the foreign owned company workers are being payed less than their american counter-parts and the american car makers are dying then they should be cutting salaries across the boards, from the CEO on down to the guy who tightens nuts. Are the american workers entitled to better pay simply because they're american? What kinda bullshit is that? Faster, cheaper, more- that's what capitalism IS, not "fairness" in wages.

  • The wage thing was a lie American auto workers make do make $71.00 dollars. That quote includes the total amount paid to all workers including retired and disabled divided by the current workforce. That like taking your income and say elderly grandma saying her retirement funds are actually your earnings too. If I go by what the senator quoted as the foreign owned company workers income they actually make $4.00 more that the big 3 worker.

  • I know about the $70 myth. Can't speak to the accuracy of the senators claims. That's not the point though. American wages are likely going to have to come down ANYWAY in general because countries like China will lift themselves up in terms of standard of living by dragging others down. It's economically inevitable.

  • trying to reduce workers wages while those fucking execs got millions (with the help of republican hacks) in the past is asinine. top 1% of households of all pre tax income - doubled since the 70's.

  • Absolutely right, Rachel. Right on the money. Thank god someone's saying it, that Rs want to reduce wages for American workers.

  • So, the southerners are repeating their old maneuvers, act like they are morally superior and all patriotic when in truth, they are really debased selfish hate mongers who don't care enough about the real Americans to piss on them if they were on fire and the southerners had been drinking beer all night.

  • @Plutonwolf Please do not classify these BS tactics as 'southerners'. These retarded pieces of trash are NOT southerners, because they have no damn problem destroying the economy on purpose just to get Obama out of the Presidency in 2012. Even if it means destroying the live of US citizens, making them homeless, job less, hope less, and abandoned. ITS PATHETIC. Then again its the republican party, so that is common knowledge.
