Anyone who comments on distance running videos saying the winners are on steroids is an idiot. This isn't sprinting, were only a select few runners will EVER be able to set a record, leading a few to try steroids. Anyone could set a distance record. These people have trained their whole lives, and they don't need steroids to be great.

P.S: These races are almost all cardio, so steroids wouldn't help anyway

Bekele has broken Gebreselassie's records, duplicated his accomplishments at 10000m (4 WC, 2 Olympic golds), has golds in the olympics and WC at 5000m, which Geb never did, has more sub-13 min and sub- 12:50 clockings than anyone else, and to top it all off, he is the most decorated cross country runner in history with 6 long course, 5 short course, and a junior gold- Gebreselassie never one once. What more must Bekele do to be the best?

Holding the world record for an event like the marathon has never been a very prestigious accomplishment. Many of the greats (Nurmi to Viren, etc...) never achieved this. Olympic gold is a higher standard.
