Interesting, I've never been to the bible belt, and I've never thought about how atheists are treated down there. It seems to me that the bible belt hates everybody that's not their own kind. Ah yes, the deep South. Its a trip living here sometimes. One of the folks I supervised at work began reading her Bible and praying for a while, as her time sensitive morning duties waited. She was throwing other employees off schedule with their own work. I told her to take care of her religious needs on her own time and the issue went all the way up to VP level. He agreed with me and after the meeting she informed me that I was going to hell. I had to grit my teeth to keep from laughing.
Most Christians do not act very Christian. The Bible says to leave them alone. The bible calls the atheist the blind leading the blind and says to leave them alone . The blind will lead them into the ditch. They have it bad enough, we do not need to make their lives miserable. I worked with born-again Christians, who felt they had a right to splatter jesus and bible quotes everywhere in the office. so, i placed a tiny, 2 inch buddha on my desk. my buddha was constantly moved, thrown in drawers, hidden. i heard many found it "offensive". the hypocrisy sometimes astounds me, i dont know why. i should be accustomed to it by now but yet my spirit still fights against it like the tide.

I think that the term "Atheist" has been misrepresented for so long to Christians that a lot of them don't even know what it actually means. Good narration, good music. I know good Christians that work with the poor, etc, and are wonderful open-minded people. but unfortunately too many ignorant ones especially the evangelistic Christians that talk but don't listen. The kind that think Jesus was a white guy with blue eyes.
The life long debate on religion is not much different than the life long debate on politics. Both can be intrusive on a persons life and/or well being. I wish I had the courage to share this on facebook... I have some people on there who should see it, but the reaction is not something I am looking forward to. Not because of what they might say to me, but because of how it could impact my immediate family. We are already the black sheep among much of the family because we have never been religious enough. I think we are the only ones who never went to church every Sunday hehe.

I think its disturbing that so many Christians see themselves as persecuted against. They have the biggest populations in much of the world. What's even worse, is that they are conditioned into a victim mentality so it can be justified as self defense, which is bullshit.

I wonder what would happen if atheists started calling people like the elderly "lady" back,starting reciting "the origin of species" or "A letter to a Christian nation" at all hours of the day. The defence for retaliating is that these people must have no problems with being called at odd hours, they are after all doing it themselves.

Interesting, I've never been to the bible belt, and I've never thought about how atheists are treated down there. It seems to me that the bible belt hates everybody that's not their own kind. I've heard stories of skateboarders being treated the same way down south as what you've described. Why is the South so effing crazy?

Ah yes, the deep South. Its a trip living here sometimes. One of the folks I supervised at work began reading her Bible and praying for a while, as her time sensitive morning duties waited. She was throwing other employees off schedule with their own work. I told her to take care of her religious needs on her own time and the issue went all the way up to VP level. He agreed with me and after the meeting she informed me that I was going to hell. I had to grit my teeth to keep from laughing.

Most Christians do not act very Christian. The Bible says to leave them alone. The bible calls the atheist the blind leading the blind and says to leave them alone . The blind will lead them into the ditch. They have it bad enough, we do not need to make their lives miserable. You cannot force a belief on someone, and because they do not see things the same is no reason to act bad towards anyone. We are to be kind an do good to them. Cannot save anyone with ridicule. cont.

It's sad that anyone in this country should have to be treated like this. Unfortunately my children and I have experienced many of the same abuses you've described here because we are Christians. I agree with CMatomic, I follow the Jesus teachings not religion, he said to love so that's what i try to do and stay out of other peoples business. If someone asks me about my faith I share it, otherwise I stay out of it.

Funny how the bible says to "Love thy neighbor" yet fundies frequently do the opposite. I could care less if people are hypocrites and bigots, there will never be full equality, but when those people don't have the balls to admit that they are hypocrites and bigots then there is a problem. If an atheist tells a lie they're expected to admit they were wrong. If a fundie lies, they're not expected to do anything.

I worked with born-again Christians, who felt they had a right to splatter jesus and bible quotes everywhere in the office. so, i placed a tiny, 2 inch buddha on my desk. my buddha was constantly moved, thrown in drawers, hidden. i heard many found it "offensive". the hypocrisy sometimes astounds me, i dont know why. i should be accustomed to it by now but yet my spirit still fights against it like the tide.

I'm agnostic when it comes to God or a creator however I'm an Atheist when comes to religion. I don't understand how someone can buy into (have faith) in a particular religion when they all claim to have the one true path while all the others by default must be wrong. Not to mention that most religions could pass for science fiction if you didn't know what you were reading.
Monotheism should = 1 religion. Since it doesn't one has to question all religions on that basis at least.

I love this video and the message. People need to realize that the "BORDERS" are created by mankind. Not by any God, or anything beyond mankind him/her self. I think that the term "Atheist" has been misrepresented for so long to Christians that a lot of them don't even know what it actually means. They hear it and they automatically equate it with hating god and worshiping the devil or something. I think if a lot of them realized that it simply is a lack of belief in god they would be a hair more tolerant (at least some of them)..

Ah, generalizations! The easy way to turn something you know nothing about, in to something that is ok to hate. I am not going to play that game. Only because it's way too easy, you can use any other word for a group in place of "atheists" and it serves it's porpouse, and it's porpouse is to upset, diminish and offend those who don't share your view of the world.

Good narration, good music. I know good Christians that work with the poor, etc, and are wonderful open-minded people. but unfortunately too many ignorant ones especially the evangelistic Christians that talk but don't listen. The kind that think Jesus was a white guy with blue eyes.

The life long debate on religion is not much different than the life long debate on politics. Both can be intrusive on a persons life and/or well being. Anyone that has a faith should keep it to themselves or their group and not be concerned with converting others. As long as someones faith doesn't interfere with my personal life then they can just knock themselves out with it, I don't care : )

I wish I had the courage to share this on facebook... I have some people on there who should see it, but the reaction is not something I am looking forward to. Not because of what they might say to me, but because of how it could impact my immediate family. We are already the black sheep among much of the family because we have never been religious enough. I think we are the only ones who never went to church every Sunday hehe.
