  • aye look me riding the bicycle down there. Ah have on meh white hat

  • the angusura building burned down recently

  • Is that clay they are mining or peat?

I grew up in ST. Croix and I've always wanted to go to Trinidad. I'm reading "The White Woman on the Green Bicycle" by Monique Roffey and am getting her perspective of the island and I want to go even more.

  • All ah we is one family!! This is a true trini attitute!!

  • @2:27 Who knows that that bird is made out of?

  • @EHFEX It looks like the horns of a bull

  • everyone down to the vendors are very well dressed!! Everyone looking freshh...lovely!!!

  • Trinidad really change boy. wish it was like bak in the slow an humble times. this shud remind us,that God is always over all....

  • yep to all the positive comments..... and yes we are all mixed up! black, white and chinese i am. PROUD TO BE A TRINI. HACKSHAW, JOHNSON, JOHN, GOODING. ALL IN ME..

  • love the beach abd food but its to bad now 90 percent of the country consist of soca fetes and parties the most famous people in the counrty is only musicans

  • nice video....such a different country now!

  • is nice to see that this video was posted. Gone are those days, the white colonial rule, the Chaguaramas base, the ships coming in with the sailors, the English people living high off the land and black people not knowing their real worth. Thanks to Eric Williams. The rest is history. The kids should see this video to see and appreciate what they have now and what their forefathers had to endure.

  • @islandgirl3330 . you sure you a Trini? cos the Trinidad you livin in certainly dont seem to be the one I living in.Where I lock up in my house down Sando like a parakeet because of all d idiot hustlers either beggin me for my money constantly.. the 2 dozen vagrants sleeping on d promenade.. my neighbour niece get gang raped waiting for a taxi at 2pm in P Town .. or the murder index that increases yearly.. steuuups I is one nigga who say bring back d Whitey cos I tiired ah tired ah this shit

  • @islandmango75 You sound like my father. Yes, I am a Trini and I live in NA and there is as much crime, etc. here. It is more noticeable in T. because it is a much smaller place. I remember when I was a child and there were no black people or Indians in the banks or private firms, when the maids had to work with their aprons and caps on and Indians were strictly in agriculture. Blame your government for not doing a proper job for security and jobs. Thank God that era has ended in T&T.

  • @islandgirl3330 Island girl I agree with every thing you wrote,I believe in equal and fair opportunity for every citizen of our island , no ifs no buts :) But what I am really referring to is not an attempt for some Colonial power to come and take over.. I live in Scotland population 6 million and a half. Scotland is the murder capital of Europe (bar Russia) and they only had 109 murders! T &T only 1.5 million and we have a increasing murder rate hitting 800 and above yearly..do the math....

  • @islandmango75 Let’s see what the two Canadians who have been hired by the force will do. I think that they made a mistake when they turned down Giuliani’s proposal. I saw him on T.V. recently and he seems to have a very arrogant attitude, maybe he does not, but if he did such a good job with N.Y. I am sure he would have handled Trinidad well. But our politicians answer was Trini and N.Y. are not the same. At least this is what I read in one of the Trinidadian newspapers a few years ago. Sad.

  • @islandgirl3330 btw .. I go to Trinidad at least 3 - 4 times a year... and I think I can make a fair judgement on what I know from growing up in Sando and then spending 5 years here in Scotland..I see the good and the ugly from both places.. and any Trini who you meet back home will tell you , moral and civil life is just on a downward spiral everywhere globally ..but for a tiny island like ours it just should not be as violent as it is now .. you certainly have to agree with that ..

  • @islandmango75 Yes, I do agree with you.

  • @islandmango75 Yes, I do agree with you.

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!! great film

  • What a fantastic film.

It really moved me to see old Port of Spain. I remember shopping @ JT Johnsons department store as a child.

  • white or black, u is still an American! now why don't we hear that? well we did and it took Malcom, Martin, to holla it ain't so! YET small island caribbean ppl are so keen to saw all are we are one! Stop being such good house niggas and grow the fuck up!! Those getto islands in the sun are pathetic third world yet the white islands of New Zealand, Tanzania, Australia are all First World, coz yr Welfare Queen decreed it so.

    Nigga wake up

  • @PAKposse what the hell is wrong with you? smh...

  • @Icequeentt

We are educated and unlike you carry it attitude, so we nah fear da Truth. I bet you get all excited when dat welfare queen of england comes down (the original slave gangsta)

  • @PAKposse you have no idea what you are talkin about so please direct your silly comments to people who have the time.. you know nothing bout me so dont perpetrate that you do.. smh.. you are probably 15 years old..

  • whey who ever did this that person is ah boss.. coz recently (22 Oct 2010) a book is out on the french in trinidad and tobago you all should see how pos was back then too , but in paintings though

  • Trini people in the states are lazy.

  • as hell !

  • @yingdiskette

maaan they are worse when they back home... seriously only waking up to fuck and eat. I swear Birth of nation was based on islands life

  • My mom was born in 1937 and she still alive, she'd be happy to see this, Damn we rock then, we still keep rocking.

  • to Imagen 72 years ago this is how trinidad looked wow we developed so fast...& also all these people in this video is probably dead by now smh just now they will be looking back at 2010 like this wow **ILL PAYNE**

  • oh trinidad...how i love this country bad

  • +This video is so serene. Such a surreal time in Trinidad's history. I enjoy seeing the men working. Developing what is now an even MORE beautiful nation. I love my country TRINIDAD!!!

Some audio would've been great. =/

  • Wow, now I get to see T&T from when my Grandma was a baby.... Thanks for a great vid.

  • trini 4 life

  • So much history in one short video: transportation, places, stores, fashion, the tramway at the pitch lake.

  • @fuzzybearphoto rape was legal back then

  • @super7fanboy

Not of white wimmen! Rape of Black and Brown was the norm. that's why they so fucked up, a nation raised on bastard horned plantation children can't prospere just so

  • Wow.. This was beautiful 2 see.. I was born n raised right there by that lighthouse n it's so amazing to see how different it looked back then.. But that was wayyyyy back.. And was that the Savannah?? Wow I am truly amazed.. Nice video!!!

  • People dressed so much better than they do now.

  • @Trinilicia I couldn't agree more. People of today try too hard. -_-

  • i just love all the oldies! makes me wish i could travel back in time to witness everything in real life

  • It's too bad that we can't just all get along.... hate is easy to do...love takes real effort...common trini people we is one

  • I was born and raised in TnT and even doh we "mix up" alot, there is still a huge indian and black community, and racism is rampant. Most of the time we doh study dat, but it there man, i tellin yuh.

  • trinidad is the best my opennion

  • LOL Go check the stats mate, Less than 25% of the country is mixed and as far as I am concerned my experience in Trinidad have shown me that there is a lot of racism in Trinidad. However, the difference between Trinidad and the U.S for example is that in Trinidad people "doh take it on" or its embedded in the culture to such a point that it is considered normal . If you think race is not an issue, one should start doing polls and see who votes for who! lol

  • Had to reply to your comment bout racism in T&T. Im born and bred Trini and have never experienced racism direcvtly, but i have heard enough to know its real. With respect to that comment u made about polls, my only prayer is that there is more biracial couples and children become so mixed that u cant tell what ethnicity they are! All four of my grandparents seemed to know that secret, each of them are of a different ethnicity... Spanish, Afr

All four of my grandparents seemed to know that secret, each of them are of a different ethnicity... Spanish, African, Indian and Chinese

Mixing the races = hot sexy kids who don't/cant discriminate!!!

  • @Sylkimami even if you "mix the races" as you say there still will be racism. Because as long as society regards race as a means to judge people, then it does not matter if you're mixed, you are going to be identified with one or the other. Take Obama for example, he's half white and half black yet no one mentions it in the long term, he's described as "black" and "african american", not mixed. Bob Marley: half white half black yet he is constantly portrayed as the voice of black liberation

  • @Gilbarath .

Good point... its all sad though. Racism remains my pet peeve and should not be an issue on an island as tiny as ours. Still, i always wondered, if someone like me ran for Prime Minister, broen skinned with very long negro hair, a spanish body, chinee eyes and an indain last name... what would be the quandry of people in Chaguanas and Laventille.

  • @Sylkimami I agree with your point! growing up in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba no one ever referred to themselves nor anyone else as being blanca, negro, mestizo, nor mulatto. In cuba we are all just Cubanos/Cubanas or Ninos/Ninas de La Revoluccion! i have visited T&T many times and i just want to say i have a lot of love and respect for the island nation! people there are so polite, warming, and welcoming! Muchos respetos y saludos pa' Trinidad y Tobago!

  • The most ironic thing for me is that clearly the mayor of Port of Spain has had a problem with street vendors since in the 1930's.

  • I can't believe it the pitch lake!!!! It reminds me of the pics in the West Indian Reader when I attended primary school!!!!

  • Wow...amazing...to think my grandfather was 17 at the time....

  • I'd think from all those military uniforms it was more like 1941 etc after the US bases were built. to the person that uploaded these videos thanks but should've added some calypso's from the era in the back ground.

  • Trini or Trinidadian means that you were born here.........Your complexion is not your decision.

  • uit doesnt matter what skin color u are.........we are all west indian =)

  • White or Black

What is d difference u is still a trini!

    Trinidad & Tobago Rocks!

  • Cut the crap those of us Trinis who are ignorant. Shape up and start contributing. One thing will lead to another and you will then realize that gansters are social jokes; the only reason why no one laughs at them is because they work in tandum with death and destruction, but they ARE jokes.

  • They are a mockery of what it *really means to be powerful. True power is to push FORWARD not laps backward and pul others downward. Stand tall Trinis...we have reason to...it just has not yet been shown, to the world and to the people for that matter- but it IS there...

  • love seeing this .. great vid... by the way there are still white people born and raised in trinidad... does it really matter?

  • Great vid. Thanks.

  • what the hell! U racist asses!!! i find it nice to see different races cooperating at a time when there was a lot of racism. I do know that the europeans get to trinidad before d indians and africans, right?

  • Some ah allyuh ral retarded yes, of course dey is white ppl back then, TnT was not even a republic yet, it was still under de control of the British empire. Is back den is when WW2 was bout to break out n ting, u ain't see de navy sailors? Anyway, much appreciation to who ever uploaded this vid, de only images i have of TnT back den is from meh grand father old photo scrap book. Nice to see it in video though. Much respect.

  • You idiots who making racist comments are BIG FOOLS. We are all immigrants to Trinidad, just like the Whites. We should all be proud of the Video and say thanks to the person who took the time to upload this Piece of History !!!

  • Look how neat and well dressed everyone is. Why can't people these days take pattern.

  • @carsrockk they don't dress modest because they rather look lie whores.sad ain't it

  • No vagrants, no garbage in the streets in town, no buildings in the savanah....and no Manning or Panday.

  • Wow instead of being proud of where you came from and seeing our nation develop, you ignorant idiots are just throwing around racist coments. Way to go, just adding to the hopelessness of our once great nation. You make me ashamed to be a trini.

  • @inalsingh "You make me ashamed to be a trini." You sound incredibly stupid. NO ONE's word(s) should hold so much power. You sound like a hypocrite, when you use the word "our". The words "shame", and "Trini", should NEVER reside in the same sentence/statement/message!!!!

    Ignorant people...

  • @leolux10 yea it should

  • This is amazing, wish it had sound though

  • Wow...Great piece of history. Thanks

  • where is the sound?

  • who is this person who made the comment about white people? I am a proud Trinidadian - we are so mixed - black, white, indian, dougla ( indian and african), chinese, all mixed up together. Now that is true Trinidad - beautiful. This should have some sound.

  • there is also a movie made in the 1950's Return to Trinidad or something so

  • startha7 go get yourself a pair of reading glasses.......i have a telescope yuh want it borrow....hehehe

  • Old school T&T .What sound do you want?

  • This is some great stuff. The government here should be in the business of collecting and archiving film like this and making it available to the local public.

  • wow wish it had sound

  • Comment removed

  • this is just so weird to watch. people have change so drastically.

  • Tings doh change... 1938 or 2009, yuh could always spot d tourists from a mile away!

  • lol dey local boy, das probably my grandpops

  • how can this be 1932 when the cars are late '30s models?

  • picky picky..relax

  • LOL, you have great vids, regardless of the date

  • The video states is 1938 not 1932...take a look again.

  • 1938

  • @startha7 Go wash daddy's nut juice out of your eye. xD lolz smh

  • @leolux10 LOL replying to year old comments, bored much?, regardless I looked back to see, as I recall the vids origianl date was 32, has since been updated and is still a good vid, but as tho u care, the vulgarity of your reply says it; cute!

  • @startha7 Not bored. Just relevant. A comment has no expiration date, genius. Whether the original poster (you) reads it, or someone else, it still gets read. Soooooo, what's your point? o_O lolz
