I quite like your natural accent. I'm from America, and have been trying to learn various accents of the UK for a little while now. I think maybe it's easier when you're from America, because a lot of Americans have an accent so general that it's practically no accent at all. It's like starting with a clean slate. I'm still crap at most of them, though.
I guess yours is technically THE clean slate, the language having come from England and all that. By the way, to answer your question in the video, America has a TON of different accents, especially down south. Maybe if I do an accent-video as a response to yours, I'll do some bad American accents.
Just watched this again. The American isn't bad, it just needs practice. Your natural accent pokes through on certain types of sounds, it seems. I find that something that helps me is to sound like a complete madman and talk to myself in whatever accent(s) I'm trying to improve upon.
(Example. I was once walking home from school having a conversation with myself in an Irish accent talking to a Scottish accent. Felt a little crazy, but it was helpful.) Oh! That's another piece of advice...
Okay... So, especially when I'm trying to do an Irish accent, which I attempt a lot lately, I try to start a lot of sentences with a word that has an "eye" sound to it. Like "I," "by," "fine," that sort of thing. Just long I sounds. That's because that's the easiest sound for me to attempt in that accent, that seems very important to the accent itself.
Plus, it sort of reminds me what I should be sounding like, so I don't accidentally slip into a different accent suddenly. That happens to me...
a potential here with this 'accent video'.. just maybe edited out a lil bit where it don't go anywhere... and maybe sharpen a lil bit the irish and welsh
I think London accents are more like common people. Where people don't pronounce the T's in the middle of words or they pronounce their TH's as F's and V's. And they say rahh a lot.
Wow,that's so cute!...I Love the accents of Lily Allen (I believe it's Cockney?) and would really like to pick it up! (Note: I am from Central Europe =:)
your own accent is fucking hot! posh is cute :P your welsh made me laugh haha 'im from tha valley an am goin to shag a sheep' lmao bless :P keep tryin hun :P im learning welsh, quite an amazing language tbh and sexy accent lol i automatically sound welsh when i speak it..not trying to err put it on ive just listened to how everything pronounced but yeah im startin to speak borin bollocks now i challenge you to do a scouse accent! AND URGH DON'T OVERDO IT PLEASE! lol loads of people overdo it!
I think it is the only one I feel is reasonable.. And that's just been reassured by a true 'Merican :)
However, I am afraid I love my British accent farrrrr too much to give it up for anything.. Apart from a Scottish or West country accent... I don't know why.
Your attempt at the Northern English accent was good, to have a good Northern English accent, if you have sky sports, watch the Rugby League, as they have Northern players and Northern commentators. If you want ore help, ask me :)
yes, I am Northern. I live just outside Liverpool, (about 30 minutes South of there) but do not have a Liverpool accent. Though I am officially from St Helens in Lancashire.

Why thankyou.
Yeah, I find having an english accent like mine is like starting with a clean slate. Americans have more of an accent though, I think.
Make an accent video and post it as a response!
And I just watched your video and left a comment :)

I got lazy editing the video. Well, quite rightly, I did film nearly half an hour of footage and just could not be bothered.
I like to think I've gotten better at accents now.. But making a video to prove that might not be a good idea, coz I'm probably not better at all :(
renolodium 2 years ago
i'm going thru process now of turning Northern for filem!

You're adorable! By the way, was someone frying things or it was raining outside? There was noise in your video's background.

Thanks! ^^
I believe that noise was the filter for fish tank. It had just been cleaned, so it was at its strongest... And LOUD.

I'm from the North, and your attempt at a Northern accent was good.
If you want help with it, I can help you
MartinK303 3 years ago
OMG really?! I thought it was so bad and probably offensive, hehe.
Well, how would you go about helping me? That could be useful.
Oh wait, which attempt at a Northern? My actual attempt or the Welsh attempt that somehow went something else....?

Where abouts? Do you notice your accent when you talk? Just always wondered that...
