I realize they come from all different genres but most of the time so do most of the contestants in each season, so using that as a reason not to have to choose is a cop out. David went up against pop and country singers in his season, just as Kelly and Carrie went up against rockers, so that isn't the reason it would be close...

In honor of American Idol being over soon - one of the worst seasons in my opinion. No excitement about the F2. David Cook, winner of season 8 is the last Idol to sell over a million records. He always made songs his own... very talented guy with a heart to boot. Love this song. And this is also proof of why Simon was good... he never slobbered over the Idols, like the current useless Judges. Even Randy was better then.

Simon is such a douche. He can't just deliver a compliment. he has to insult the song while giving a compliment. P.s. songs not about a sparrow asshole. Its about having you heart broken by a man who left you for some other woman. Sparrow is just used as a metaphor.

@Jaylecialee Yeah, normally I agree with Simon on just about everything, but when he said that the song was about sparrows and simultaneously insulting it (while I think it is a beautiful analogy), I was a bit miffed. What an insult to a brilliant woman like Dolly.

He always has to get cruel when he is giving a negative comment and I don't see how it's constructive or helpful. Poor David, during the season in those mini clips before his performances, he always gave credit to where he got his ideas for his covers and they always edited those out and then though Ryan announced he was doing Cornell's version of Billie Jean the judges didn't pay attention so he got slammed for Randy calling it original so he had to make this announcement. He proved that he can do his own arrangements with this song. What a terrible spot A.I. put him into by him making this statement.

This version is so damn good. Dolly is an incredible singwriter (she wrote the iconic "I Will Always Love You). Cook's voice is just stunning, powerful yet totally controlled. He has one of the few male falsettos that is perfect in timbre and tone.
