Holly hated the way the band was sounding at this time. the dance beat that had sold them, is completely gone and this just drones on, could have been a great follow-up, if Trevor Horn had actually showed up for the production. What made FGTH great was Hollys ideas and lyrics. Trevor was busy producing Yes, and also he was reluctant to deal with them because their record deal was daylight robbery and the band was growing increasingly unhappy about the state of things.
I'm not so sure, i still really like the first album but i listened to 'Liverpool' a couple of months back and thought the songs themselves were poor (lyrics, no great melodies, ideas) so i'm not sure if Trevor would have made much difference. I think he'd also just invested in a digital recording studio so surely would have wanted some return on that? It's often said that you get a lifetime to right your first album but about 12 months to come up with the 2nd and this usually sorts them out
victims of their own success...and i think everyone was more interested in waiting for the moment that Holly would disappear up his own arse than the music by this stage...but thanks for the memory!!
They did not steal the idea of Dylan Thomas since he is quoted in the original video. You can view the lyrics and the name of the author. It's like a thesis, are cited authors and their writings ....
Liverpool was a great album and was under-rated. Without Trevor Horn taking total control, more of the band's real sound came through, giving it a rockier edge!
i was 14 year old and i`ve seen this gig in Dortmund Westfalenhalle on Peters PoP Show in 1986.Great Time!Thanx for uploading.Holly throw the micro after singing in the crowd.
I don't know which is funnier, hearing Turbonegro going "Woo woo woo!" in "Rendezvous with Anus", or hearing Frankie singing "Doin' it right, doin' it right" and taking themselves completely seriously here. I have "Liverpool" and listen to it from time to time for the unintentional humor; it's the "Plan 9 From Outer Space" of eighties music. "We're rath in a cage; thuithide a go-go!"
ha, i have this one recorded on a video 2000 cassete. I also have a tape of the Montreaux festival appearance where FGTH f*cked up their sound equipment. Unfortunately the tape recorde is gone with the wind :(
hey, im searching for frankies appearance on peter illmanns treff 86, after the wm, thomas berthold was theyre too, fgth performed rage hard and holly kicks 2 stonelions in the pool. like to see that again.

They pinched the idea from Dylan Thomas (which as far as i know was him addressing his father on his death bed)
Do not go gentle into that good night...last verse mays me cry.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Is 'Rage Hard' some kind of Gay slang? Something to do with 'toilet traders'?
shafty1968 3 years ago
Rage Hard was influenced by a Dylan Thomas poem. It has nothing to do with gay sex. Three members of the band are straight anyway.
