1. 18 and under in Ontario you must wear a helmet. Over 18, it's your choice (rightfully so)
2. A British study found that if you wear a helmet, vehicles pass much closer.
I tried this out for myself. Went out with a helmet and the vast majority of cars that passed came within inches of me. Without a helmet on they gave me at the minimum a metre.
3. Don't they know it's illegal to ride on the sidewalk??? Kids okay, but she should "set an example" and ride on the road.
Land of the free and the home of the brave. The only reason helmets are a topic is because it makes the automobile people feel safer knowing if they hit a bicycle rider, the bicycle rider won't be killed outright. It makes riding in a car at 30 MPH feel less threatening knowing if you hit the bicycle rider, at least they can be a consious lame person when they recover from the automobile collision. Way to go. :-(
