Perhaps it's the recording method, but the sound is really unfocused and breathy. I also agree with the other poster that there is far too much use of vibrato, IMHO, for this period of music. It can be used, sparingly, but only for color and interest. Heavy vibrato (and heavy style) like this seems to add nothing to this beautiful piece. Sorry, just my $.02. To each his/her own I guess with Baroque music.

Really beautiful :D But, I just have to mention, that the vibrato was very thick in this piece and I thought (please correct me if I'm wrong) that generally during the Baroque period, they disliked/avoided the use of vibrato.
Zut ! Cette Nina , au jeu souvent un peu sale , pour le coup me laisse sur le cul à rêver ...On peut entendre plus de maîtrise ( cf Gallois sur ce même youtube ) , mais une telle projection !
This is beautiful, among the finest things of any kind that the Internet has yet made available. Thank-you for providing this to us. If Nina Perlove were to produce a CD of studio performances of all of the 12 Fantasias, I would be the first to buy it. Are all 12 actually already available on YouTube and I have only managed to find four? Please make them all available here or on CD. They are nonpareil references for those of us working on our own renditions.
@camerondeniselow Yeah, it is. There's always different names, different spellings for the pieces depending on the publisher. It's also known as No. 6, but it is certainly a Telemann Fantasie (fantasy, what have you) in d minor.
You sound amazing, but I was just curious, were you messing around with the piece at all? I'm doing this piece as a solo in my band and the piece your playing sounds different than the one I am playing.
Did you put your own twist on this song? Because I was following my music while listenining to you and when you should of done the repeats you did it a little different. I'd like to learn what your additions to it were,
I'm playing this for a college audition in January, and I really appreciate you posting such a beautiful recording on YouTube! I really like your use of ornamentation and rubato. Good job. =)
I really like the ornamentations you use on this! I have some written in from my flute teacher, but only a couple of the ones you use. I think it's awesome. =)
I love this piece and love to play it myself, though not as good as this. The acoustics are very reminiscent of a large bathroom I used to like to play in.
I'm playing this piece for a college music audition saturday... wish i could play it tihs well. You did a great job. I've definitely got something to aspire to. :)
Where did you find the sheet music for all the Telmann pieces you played? The only book I can find is "Wye: Music for Solo Flute". Is this the one you used? If not, could you give me the title of the book you are using? I would really like to buy these and play them for fun :)
There's actually a book with just Telemann's Fantasies in them. The one I have is called "12 Fantasies" (for: Flute Alone. by: G.P. Telemann. edited by: Robert F. Cole] It's from the Southern Music Company.
The sheer amount of grammatical mistakes is amazing.
You mean 'improvise'? And artistic liberties in music doesn't make the piece bad -__-; Combined with good technique and tone quality, it just means she plays the piece more awesomely than a normal person who drills the piece for the notes. Get a proper music background.
The improvisation is called ornamentation, essential to baroque performance practice, look in the New Grove or any other source on Baroque style. Even Wikipedia says: "Baroque music employs a great deal of ornamentation, which was often improvised by the performer." Since your parents are musicians, ask them. I hope you can continue your studies of music history and style since you play nicely. Good luck.
Dear halfnote07: I'll add it to my request list. It is a controversial topic. I like to move while I play as long as it does not bother my technique, but perhaps that is because I have a background in dance? Some think I move too much for their taste, some like it.
I find I move when I play as well, however I play it because its like if you play a song perfectly still and rigid, I feel that can affect breathing and the overall tone of the piece, whereas if your more relaxed and playing a song such as this, it for some reason always plays so much nicer! (OK, just reread my answer and I honestly can't explain, It's just natural and that's why I do it)
@ninaflute It's possibly not because you have a background in dance. I don't have a background in dance, yet I move when I play. It just depends on what I play. Maybe it's a manifest of the player's personality and playing style. :)
Hi Nina! This was sooooo beautiful. I wish I could take flute lessons from you...but I live too far away.I love your tone, and your vibrato. I love your expression and emotion in the music you play.I subscribe to your videos...I enjoy them so much.I learn alot about flute from you, and you inspire me to continue in my flute studies. To be honest: I think this doesn't sound like a baroque piece. In my opinion your tone and vibrato sounds much too "modern".

@Namine58 I added Baroque style ornamentation to the piece. It was expected that the performer would add embellishments to what the composer wrote.

Ninaflute, you are a really good flute player. You have really good tone and
you incorporate style in this piece. You don't make the notes sound louder than others.
I play the flute too. I really like to play that instrument.

Also,I would like to add, that the more you made the
structure more subtle and surprising to detect, the
more intriguing and charming was the effect.
It is my fervent hope that you will continue
to look for ways of highlighting the rhetorical
elements through more pronounced individuation of
each phrase...with the answers always surprising
in time.Your friend,Smith

Dear Nina, I thought that the 1st section was almost, but
not quite up to the other magical worlds that you had
created in the other fantasias. On the other hand, unlike the others I felt that the Cantabile move-
ments were increasingly interesting with the finale
really being fabulous owing to the differing beat
placement varying and altering phrase tempos.I bet
the next one is even more provacative.
