Remember, those rules (no shellfish or pork, clothing of two different fabrics, etc) were part of the Old Covenant made with God to reconcile humankind after the induction of original sin. Jesus' coming replaced this with the New Covenant, and hence his teachings take precedence, within reason, over those of the Old Testament. If you are even Christian, you should know this.

quite to the contrary, it's easy to argue that atheist morality actually has a stronger foundation: it's based on what works best for society. Christian morality, even if we assume that god exists, is based on interpreting his moral code through the bible, which was written by man long ago.
Humans have learned more about what is right since then, and if Christians actually took all their moral guidance from the bible, they'd support slavery and murdering disobedient children. They don't. The truth is that most Christians derive their morality the same way atheists do: common sense.
Common sense does NOT answer the problem because one man's common sense is another man's nonsense.
We are not under Old Testament law, we are under God's grace and no this is not a license to sin. We have God's Spirit in us prompting us to want to do right. A new nature is given us, one that is in agreement with God now, no longer a slave to sin which leads to death but rather a slave to righteousness which leads to life, eternal life with God.
You're right that a few individuals may disagree about what makes sense, but the principle is still fundamentally correct. As a society, we fundamentally recognize that some things are wrong and we don't do those things. (or the few that do are punished.)

And as an atheist you also have no standard by which to judge what is right or wrong. You can call them hateful but what's wrong with hate? Maybe what you call hate is in fact a loving act to them?

quite to the contrary, it's easy to argue that atheist morality actually has a stronger foundation: it's based on what works best for society. Christian morality, even if we assume that god exists, is based on interpreting his moral code through the bible, which was written by man long ago.

Humans have learned more about what is right since then, and if Christians actually took all their moral guidance from the bible, they'd support slavery and murdering disobedient children. They don't. The truth is that most Christians derive their morality the same way atheists do: common sense.

Common sense does NOT answer the problem because one man's common sense is another man's nonsense.
We are not under Old Testament law, we are under God's grace and no this is not a license to sin. We have God's Spirit in us prompting us to want to do right. A new nature is given us, one that is in agreement with God now, no longer a slave to sin which leads to death but rather a slave to righteousness which leads to life, eternal life with God.

You're right that a few individuals may disagree about what makes sense, but the principle is still fundamentally correct. As a society, we fundamentally recognize that some things are wrong and we don't do those things. (or the few that do are punished.)

The various comments including bible verses and their accompanying interpretations show exactly the ignorance of society in which we live in. Federal law is secular and we SHOULDNT base our decisions concerning gay marriage on what the "bible" says what marriage is. It's sad that people continue to warp the bible to justify their perverse and sinful heterosexual acts while at the same time condemning homosexuality, using it as a scapegoat. We're all "sinners" of the same degree in my eyes.

Who is interpreting, I'm reading the plain text. Could it be that it's the opposite, that it is those who do not like the clear message who attempt to obfuscate by claiming misinterpretation? This is not a case of making a pretext out of context. The Bible and the Holiness of God make it crystal clear that homosexual perversion like any sexual activity outside of God's design in marriage IS sin, period.
What is the moral basis of our civil laws?

The Bible says thou shalt not murder also, should that be changed? Thou shalt not steal? We are a nation that was founded on Judea- Christian beliefs and as such we base much of our law upon Bible principles. Do you know the 10 commandments are on the wall at the U.S.Supreme Court? Now, why is that?
Homosexuality is a perverted 'sect' with NO justifiable reason to be given minority status, special recognition or rights.

You couldn't be more inaccurate. figures. Nearly all serious historians accept Christ resurrection as an historical fact, thus Christianity IS true as He did what he claims and is who He claimed to be, God's son, the 2nd person the trinity. Are you more learned than these historians to dismiss their conclusions based on the data available?
Save it, you're not. You wish Christianity were false but you know better.
