i have a special place for songs/music that with simple words reach deep deep into the our soul/ and when a song like this is addressed to those gone missing(such as death) i wish with all my heart and soul they can hear this song as moves through my heart, and my eyes that moisten--yes to ALL, as best can be shared with others, it need not be one--no? My advice to all, remember if you get chance, before someone is gone that you feel this way--send to he or she, this song BEFORE they are gone.
She (Minnie) actually was in another group before Rotary Connection - The Starletts. She also recorded under the name Andrea Davis in the mid 60s. He was basically only a teenager, but unitl the itme of her passing he had been singing and recording for a long time. Thanks for posting and keeping her music alive!
Charles Stepney had a brief but amazng career also!
@labellavita4me It is amazing what music can mean to us. Hope the memory makes you feel good and not sad-think of the wonderful side of those good times with him. thanks for sharing.
I have a solo version of this by Minnie Riperton on CD. But I've never heard this version - which hit #96 in Billboard the very first week of the 1970's. Thanks for the post. Gosh, I love YouTube! By the way, for those who didn't know, Minnie Riperton is the mother of Maya Rudolph.
@ohnonothimagain Then you have very good taste in music. She had an incredible voice range that would bring chills down my spine when she sang. We are lucky to have heard her. And that Christmas cd is a real find! Thanks for taking the time to comment.
For a long time I felt like I was one of the few people who even knew about this song. I have always loved the way it builds on those wonderfully simple lyrics. I actually have a copy of the DJ copy shown.
Come Back any time-love to have repeat views-let's me know my taste in music has not dwindled-You really made my day lettingme know the music I offered brought a smile to your face-goose bumps! Thanks. There will be more to come.
Knowing the music I shared brought you a smile makes it all worth while-Thanks for the sincere comment. Now I know why Curtis said you were a great person.
I never get tired of hearing it and seem to always pick up another octave by Minnie when I listen to it. She supposedly had a 5 octave range-what a shame she is no longer around. Thanks for your encouragement.

This is song is bittersweet in that it reminds me of early childhood. It reminds me of 1969/1970

There was another version, less Motown/less jazzy, that reached closer to number 1 on the Pop charts around 1970, also... by who?
Anybody?
voidforpurpose 1 year ago
@voidforpurpose that year is this song-maybe the years and the AM radio distorted the sound?????
