a really talented and musically capable band. They may appear trendy posers but they are real musicians, it's all a business trick. But it would be better if their target group weren't teenyboppers and ignorant little girls. After all, like the Beatles, they started making their music some years later.

@jandean61 I really like The Beatles and The Beach Boys, The Beatles where the best on pop, and The Beach Boys where the best of Southern Rock, have nothing to do with each other.
I'm only 14 and I love the beach boys & Carl was so cute. They all had a voice of an angel. Wish I grew up in the 60s instead of all this crappy music today
God i love this song. It's so musically sophiisticated. The tempo/ the call and response singing. Just amazing. They kind of lose it for a while, but quickly get it back and finish it off with style. Over all, its a lot more fun than listening to the record. duh.
When I was a kid, in the '80s, it was all about The Beatles for me and The Beach Boys were too "corny" with their matching stripped shirts and "themed" songs. In my 20s, the harmonies of "Fun Fun Fun," "When I Grow Up," and "Wouldn't It Be Nice" really started to catch my ear and I paid close attention. And of course, the praise of "Pet Sounds" was everywhere. I bought "Pet Sounds" and became a lifelong fan. These guys could sing circles around anybody, including The Beatles. From 3:19 on!
Cool to see this live video with no dubbing or lip synching. Those 4 guys had perfect blend of voices. I was 7 in 1964. A few years later at age 10 went to my first show and have been to about 65 concerts since then. Needless to say BB music has been a big joyful part of my life.
Beach Boys - great. Keith Fordyce - crap. Another embarrassing Englishman asking Americans what they think of this country. I do wish they'd stop it - they still do it today. Will they never learn.
5:00 Hilarious. Mike thinks he made the girls scream by putting his finger in his mouth and then finds out it was Dennis who turned the girls on. He looks so frustrated.
So funny and cute how they giggle when they fluff the start of When I Grow Up. Amazing how they recover to sing in perfect harmony from one strummed bass note!
Not enough of Dennis here. Silly presenter dismissed him with his comment!! I would DEFINITELY have gone for Brian if I'd been a teen in the 60s! I always loved the sensitive and shy ones. I wouldn't have said no to Dennis though! ;)
oh my gosh. i love them so much. i think im in love with brian. hes so adorable. too bad i was born in the completely wrong decade, im only 16 now lol
WOW! nice... I play guitar, and I know just how complex this seemingly simple song is. God Bless Brian Wilson. Playin Bass hot and singin the falsetto.. I mean they were workin their asses off, and succeeding wonderfully. so nice to actually see it from, what,, 1964? By the way, I was a teenageer when this was on the radio+ we used to dance to the 45.
Damn freakin' good and totally live. The false start on WIGUTBAM shows they're human and not afraid to make a mistake. Too bad the limey host was such a twat.

Could they have made the stage any smaller? Brian takes one step back and bumps into a cymbal. One step forward and he would have fallen off the stage.
If I had the chance to rate the appearance of the Beach Boys, and The Beatles on Ready Steady Go, I would say that the appearance of the Beach Boys is 10 times better!
I always wondered whether the people in Great Britain really understood what this song was really about. most teens in gb didn't have cars or a place to cruise to on Friday night..
@vettefool Hi there my friend....I think you are right about our awareness of the detail, but the key to the BBs appeal has always been the universal connection with something that superficially seems so geographically specific. I was just 10 years old when I saw this on UK television, so had no idea about very much, let alone "gettin' bugged" and "cruisin'"....BUT the Beach Boys made me sit up and take notice because of their freshness, harmonies,melodies ...I've been hooked ever since.
Well for ordinary people in the UK the fifty's and early sixties were pretty bleak by today's standards. American rock and roll and blues symbolised what was for teens a better way of life. America was ahead on car ownership, household goods, cool cinema and fast food, so was I suppose something to aspire towards or escape to. It was certainly more hopeful to us than the world of the drab, pompous presenter in this clip, and the old music hall, (vaudeville) entertainment.
Re. "technical difficulties": I challenge anyone to pull off what they did in this clip, singing complicated harmonies in front of screaming girls on live TV, with a lousy sound system and no monitors (hadn't been invented yet). One quick fuck-up at the beginning of the song and then getting their correct parts off of one bass note is pretty damn good under these circumstances.
@corneliusfelix You're OBVIOUSLY not a musician. This live performance has harmonies that no UK group at that time could match. The false start of the second song is probably why you made that statement. They had to pitch their harmonies for an augmented 7th from Brian's bass note, with all the noise from screaming girls it threw them. This isn't the Rolling Stones 'live' ie not too many chords certainly no harmonies to pitch. A completely inaccurate statement .
@corneliusfelix Steady on...aside from amplification, it is REAL and you are hearing PURE vocals! Close harmony is tricky at the best of times, and they probably couldn't hear themselves over the din of the room. One tune-up chord and they're back on. Too much music now is technically corrupted, artificial sound.
When we wake up to the truth of life, inspired music like this will emerge and flourish again. Search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read what it says to learn the truth.
@noahwayne Either way I completely disagree; the Beach Boys were huge influences on the Beatles and really did most of the "pioneering". John and Paul said that Sgt. @Mattimeoo I'm with you 100%. This is top-flight teenage Rock&Roll. Show me the way to the time machine right now. Beach Boys rule. Brian, Carl, Dennis, Mike and Al! They knew how to have fun.
@MYdoggieisAuggie Don't forget, it was a long time ago. Unless you were living in the area certain things were going on, you wouldn't know about it. The press wasn't what it is now, and you couldn't just google things to do research, like these days. And that seemed to be a common presenting style back then, anyway.
Had to smile how Keith introduced them as the inventors of surf music though. Not quite 100% accurate as I'm sure the guys doing it before them in the states would agree, Dick Dale especially.
That's not to say I don't love the Beach Boys, I do!
Born in 50ty They were my Favorite Group even wore the same shirt , my high school sweatheart thought I was crazy . Oct 2,2011 this crazy and her have been married 40ty years. Our love lives just like our music.
@AndShowalt lol one of the greatest youtube comments ever. I dont know why people argue/debate/fight/whatever with people that dont know/will never meet...so odd
3/28/2011 Check it, even the Beach Boys (Carl?) used the RIC 12 string, a trend that was most likely started by Roger McGuinn of The Byrds. If that guitar is anywhere, it may fetch many thousands of dollars. Have to put it on my "wish list" for now.
@1900JME1959 Listen here mother fucker cos I take a dislike your music dont come giving me jibe avout being a paedo! The girl/ woman in the thong is 25 years old is perfectly legal otherwise it wouldn't be on Youtube you arsehole. How dare you acuse of something like that you arsehole. That comment is very distasteful. Also, Im not 38. I haven't given my details as creeps like you snoop into peoples profiles. Get the fuck out of here you wanker.
@noahwayne LOL looks like you dish out comments but cant take them i guess ! You might want to think about that next time you leave negative comments on youtube
@1900JME1959 Im sat here asking myself "How stupid is this person?". Firstly, my comment was aimed at a band / sound I dislike - we are all entitled to an opinion. My comment wasn't directed at anyone in particular and it wasn't acusing someone of being a peado on a social networking site!! I wasn't getting personal. You are just one of Youtube's bullies that needs to reel his neck in and take stock of his stupidity. Fuck off. This is my last comment. Lets hope we never meet in person!
Maaannnn I love this performance because they played their songs louder, the drums are so loud and clear as opposed to the studio versions! Get Around especially sounds so awesome and right next to She Loves You! Hit the cymbals harder drummerboy!! :}

1900JME1959 10 months ago
@1900JME1959 They dont compare. That vid is way more satisfying..lol.
noahwayne 10 months ago
@noahwayne no , it just means at 38 you`re a closet paedo
1900JME1959 9 months ago
@1900JME1959 Listen here mother fucker cos I take a dislike your music dont come giving me jibe avout being a paedo! The girl/ woman in the thong is 25 years old is perfectly legal otherwise it wouldn't be on Youtube you arsehole. How dare you acuse of something like that you arsehole. That comment is very distasteful. Also, Im not 38. I haven't given my details as creeps like you snoop into peoples profiles. Get the fuck out of here you wanker.
noahwayne 9 months ago
@noahwayne LOL looks like you dish out comments but cant take them i guess ! You might want to think about that next time you leave negative comments on youtube
1900JME1959 9 months ago
@1900JME1959 Im sat here asking myself "How stupid is this person?". Firstly, my comment was aimed at a band / sound I dislike - we are all entitled to an opinion. My comment wasn't directed at anyone in particular and it wasn't acusing someone of being a peado on a social networking site!! I wasn't getting personal. You are just one of Youtube's bullies that needs to reel his neck in and take stock of his stupidity. Fuck off. This is my last comment. Lets hope we never meet in person!
noahwayne 9 months ago
@noahwayne It`s unlikely we`ll ever meet. people like you who favourite `girl wears pink thong` dont get out much !!

Maaannnn I love this performance because they played their songs louder, the drums are so loud and clear as opposed to the studio versions! Get Around especially sounds so awesome and right next to She Loves You! Hit the cymbals harder drummerboy!! :}
