  • One of the best songs ever.Loved it even if I was Elvis crazy at that time

  • Once upon a time I had an album with the Ames Brothers singing "Amapola".....I haven't heard it in years...if you have it, please post it.

  • MY FATHER PLAYED THIS 45 RECORD WHEN I WAS VERY YOUNG. ALWAYS LOVED IT. I LOST THE RECORD. THANKS FOR POSTING THE SONG.

  • Very, very cool song. 3 of the 4 brothers are still alive.

  • @AndreaMimi1984 Oh, I'm afraid not. Ed is the only one left. And even he is well up in his 80s.

  • One of their three best songs.

  • Well, folks . . . talented voices, no doubt . . . but WHY was so much of their vocal skill wasted on trivial, cornball material, such as "Rag Mop"? Pap to please the Eisenhower middle-class.

Because their career was rigidily controlled by greedy, money-grubbing parents?

The quality of their material never approached the level of the Hi-Los or Four Lads.

In case you can't tell . . . I LOVE to stir it UP!!!

  • @garysaddleback ..Much ado about nothing...

  • If I heard this the first time I might like this version - but I heard the lennon sister's version first - added the sisters' charm - I immediately have a crush with janet knowing that she is now way beyond my era I being 42 ,still like their version , but this version is also great.....

  • Melodie D'amour (Melody of Love) - The Ames Brothers [Malden, Massachusetts] - No.05 on 10/7/1957. 14 weeks Top 40. - "AMG Pick. Another highlight from this band in the 1950's." - The Very Best Of The Ames Brothers (Taragon)-1998.

  • GR8 tune by a GR8 group.

  • mooi muziek, al is het nog zo oud, fijn om naar te luisteren.

    Thanks, lovely music

  • I remember this song I was seven years old and I dream like a baby Me acuerdo de esta cancion yo tenia siete años y soñaba como bebe

  • I just had to pay this one after listening to the Ames Bros sing their colourful "Red River Rose". This one is by far a bigger hit to me, there is no comparison to that Red River Rose, which was ok. I like these lyrics much more, in the hoping she will return, in this lovers melody. Melody d'amour a fictious bird I presume...anyway 4 out of 5 stars, not bad with all thing considered. I wasn't really tuned into the radio at the time of this hit but did hear it on contempory radio, I'm sure.

  • I remembefr this from when I was five years old! What's that in the background--a harpsiwhocrd?

  • My favorite radio station that would play these type of songs turned into an all-talk station - drat ! So thanks for bringing this wonderful song back for me to enjoy.

  • Forgive me for getting away from the song a bit, but regarding stereo, you can do it visually. too.

A stereoscope is a basic mapping tool. Maybe your local mapping agency has one to show you.

Once you've met a basic stereoscope you will never take 2D photos of a still scene again. You will, however, find yourself wanting to take two slightly offset photos of the same scene.

3D recollections of the scene are obviously much better.

If you want clarification, just ask.

  • Con razón los tíos de los 60´s se traumaron con los rockeros que ahora nos parecen aburridos y sin malicia; elvis, comparado a estos, era el mismísimo diablo ^^ jajaja

  • This song was one of the very first songs I ever heard. I was two years old when it was released.

  • Thanks for mentioning the separation, nagano. Hadn't thought to check it, before. My seft speakers are behind a stack of VHS tapes. I have an archive of news & documentary tapes that goes back into the 80's. Was recently watching a tape of Tom Snyder chatting w/David Steinberg on the "Late, Late Show" while enjoying a "colortini." Thanks for the memory, Jen. Hm-m-m. I wonder if that's on here, someplace? Dare I Hope?

  • this song is so nice and onforgettable

  • my father always said I was named after this song.. love it thanks for posting...

  • You're welcome!

  • A wonderful song from back when I was 8 years old...I love this tune..

I use to love to watch Ed Ames play the Indian friend of Daniel Boone in the TV series... Long time ago...Thanks Ilovejenni

  • You're welcome!

  • outstanding song, by a great group

  • The best version by the Ames brothers,

  • Absolutely!

  • Not only did I get to hear one of my favourite songs again, I also really experienced, for the first time on Youtube, that my speakers can be treated as discerning. The voices were in my left speaker, and the instruments were in my right.

Thankyou for making me fully realise that things can be done in stereo in Youtube.

All other offerings I've met have suggested that both speakers were treated the same.

Perhaps I haven't been listening closely enough. This made it very apparent.

    Thankyou.

  • You are very welcome! Try adding "&fmt=18" to the url of some song videos as well because this will often get the recordings to play in stereo.

  • @naganokumas Hah....mine are exactly the opposite...I suppose I could just switch them around...lol still good music, regardless....

  • @naganokumas ...mine are reversed....lol maybe I should switch the wires.

  • One of the loveliest versions.
