  • Louis Jordan fits in the category of Jump Blues, but was categorized by the record companies of his time as Novelty music, since much of it had humor in it. Fantastic music no matter what it's called.

  • no wonder they censored this wonderful, suggestive music on national radio. GREAT stuff!!

  • This is either jazz or the blues

  • BIG!

  • This is my cousin generations back, I was 4 when he died.... Sure wish I could have hung out with him sumtime...

  • what do you call this style of music?

  • @twh1114 it's old Rhythm and Blues

  • @twh1114 Amazing

  • i love this my mom says i wasnt around when this song was around and i said i know i am only ten years old

  • Somebody find out what weed that drummer smoked I could buy some.

  • @buzzJORDANSdotCOM .. It is ...I never LIED to no one, not liked... there is only one Louie Jordan, that is for sure.. peace.

  • Is this r&b?

  • Amazing sound - i wonder how they did it? Must have mikes in the piano and just above their heads - you'd think there were mikes in their pockets.

  • i love it, just love it

  • This is WAY BETTER than the studio version. Absolutely love it!!

THANKS SO MUCH for posting this video !!!!

  • I played with Louis for about 9 months in New Orleans in 1974. Wallace Davenport was the musical director. Incredible experience, and a great guy to work for.

  • i like how these ladies in his videos are like the precurser to video girls. lol we have come a long way backward

  • fuck, the trumpet player's got soul

  • I have a track of this great song on a CD and it is slightly different.

It has the piano doing a little bit of "London Bridges" in the background on it and it sounds great. Love this song.

"This was a #1 hit on the R&B charts(1945) , staying on top for nine weeks, & was a crossover hit on the national chart at #9."

  • Thats quality black and white video from the 40s/50s.

This is a real occurrence of an orchestra with the star, rather than just a "one star on stage with fake music" type deal! Why have music stars become so individualized?

  • The drummer is awfully happy eventough he's barely playing.

  • @Jontenn I can tolerate that!

Those drummers should just know that they are happy they are even in a band at all!

  • @Jontenn

I think I would be too!

  • Louis Jordan is the finest blend of blues and jazz I´ve heard so far... One of my favourite artists!

  • Louis Jordan is fantastic. My mother and her sister were big fans of his and I remember them playing his records when I was a child. Of course the "current" music at the time was British Invasion -- and who do you think they idolized? Louis Jordan! Check out Rod Stewart's 1964 cover of "I'm Gonna Move To The Outskirts Of Town" a song made famous by Louis Jordan (NOT Ray Charles). And The Animals even referenced Mr Jordan in "Winds of Change".

  • Put some hotsauce on my burrito baby!!!!

  • this is real R&B

  • @henman235 YEAH! U TELL US!

  • tupac and biggie were in the same band a long time ago.

  • i love lius jordan he was the man in my great grandma's day

  • great! ich liebe diese musik! he´s the one and only!

  • that must be the thinest mustasch i've ever seen:D

  • louis jordan

     - James Brown's biggest musical influence.

  • Great Trumpetism

  • ?!?!?!!? ITS NOT AUTOTUNED WTF? This is old!

  • I like this better then Chuck Berry and that's not a stab at Berry.

  • ...........and rock and roll was born.

  • chuck berry's greatest influence according to his own words.

  • chuck berry's greatest influence

  • Just Fantastic!..im a recent convert to Louis Jordan, sadly for me, ive been missing out for the last 53 years.

  • It's a slow blues, but they are jumping and playing as if it's a funky thing. Very inspiring.

  • @wimharp you are right!

  • this is love makin music(:

  • I always loved this kind of music.

BTW-It would make a terrific commercial for vibrators.lol

  • You can hear the R&B in it to me sound the same just with no guitar BB King and Chuck beery loveed this man for his music thanks.

  • My respect goes out to all the good musicians out there but one thing I'm certain, that black musicians are simply thee best!

  • ALL ICAN SAY IS WOW!!!

  • The best music ever. I think heaven has all the blues recordings like this, and in eternity you sit back and listen to cuts like this? Muahahaha!

  • Això és música!! Olé!!

  • This conclusively proves that I like EVERY kind of blues from blues-rock to Jazz blues. Such terrific music.

  • What a pleasure to see this clear, sharp, high-quality film to visually accompany this great song. I am super grateful that YouTube exists each time I encounter another treasure like this.

  • such a signature sound and voice!!! He really makes this song great.

  • I much prefer the studio version. It's much more bluesy than this version.

  • looks like 3 people dont got soul

  • This is the best. five guys named gus

  • Fantastic! Where on earth did you get these videos?

  • oh this gives you a feeling

  • Man, this guy is fantastic.

  • blues is a moody kind of music, whereas rap is more related to tribal wars ;P

  • you know when we are old and grey people will be saying rap contributed to the world. its just not the same as jazz contributing to the world is it? :(

  • yes. it is. I'm glad you love Jazz, but rap is a valid form of music, and can be very good. And it has had a huge social and cultural impact.

  • @crosmyheartnhopeudie Jazz started in the brothels and Bars in New Orleans, whereas Hip Hop (the proper term for "rap") started as social protest and commentary. Try The Last Poets(super early), Grandmaster Flash, Eric B and Rakim...

The real artists are still out there as well, you just need to turn off your T.V. to find them.

Try Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, Mos Def. These guys are international and very well known, but you won't find them on BET. Just look around you.

  • @747t I thought it all started as party music and was adapted into to other areas since its such a flexable way to express a thought, feeling or your self.

  • @747t hip hop artists need to learn phrasing & chord progression beyond 4 bars

  • @streetcornerjames No...no they dont.

  • Awesome.You cant keep a good 12 bar down.

  • now this is music .... nobody make this kind of quality music anymore

  • @soulassasin10 I couldnt agree more i may be 15 but i know that this music is what helped the world advance

  • the father of the dancing music.. ;)

  • The father of rock and roll

  • @hepcats thats Elvis unfortunatelyy

  • The great late King of Soul James Brown stated this man was one of his protege idols.

  • and Cab Calloway!

  • chuck berry also.

  • and Ray Charles

  • @highlife899 and Lois Armstrong

  • Awesome song...I'm thinking this may have been a little influential to the song "Killing Floor" but who knows..

  • Jazz me baby :-P

  • Yeah!! Now it's text me or call me on the cell phone baby!

  • 2:43

"when i get my arms around you, ain't gonna let go 'till 1953"... long time ago

  • If that was being sung now they'd have to change the last line to "aint gon' let go til two thousand fifty three" lol

  • Man how great would that be live

  • love it!! love this laid back version of a song I do all the time by Debbie Davies!!...
