@aviramvijh cannot understand you. are u correcting the spelling? well when you do sanhi in hindi words and write them in roman script, there is some scope for sounds like a and aa being confused.
@yetagain02 this is part of a DVD on Ustadji. this specific video can be easily downloaded from youtube. if you use linux damn easy, but i guess u dont. try adding an Addon called Ant video downloader on firefox and have fun.
@yetagain02 just download real player..after that an icon "download video"will come in every youtube or other videos u r watching in internet....just download it and convert to any formats.....
@shankyxyz speculation has it that he learnt hamsadhwani thru the magnum opus composition in this raag by muthuswamy dikshitar called Vathapi Ganapatim(seen often on youtube) form a carnatic pandit. This bandish closely follows that melody.
@abbasalikhan you are most welcome. i think you are the guy i rubbed the wrong way some time back. you sing well but i am a harsh critic of music. so please don't mind my words. please practise hard. also would love to get ur feedback on watch?v=cqCiZBJESFE.
@crajhansa what Operating system do you use? Linux will be very easy. win windiws, i have no idea, but a casual search on google "how to download youtube videos " should provide links. realplayer used to have an addon which enabled downloads.
AWESOME!! The beautiful Raag Hamsadhwani will ITSELF thank him for singing it!! Ustad Sahib has paid the raag a rich, pristine tribute! So divine! Thanks immensely
Ustad Rashid Khan is a great singer/performer. I listen to this Raag every day, all day sometimes and never get enough of it. Unfortunately when Ustadji came to my town in the US, he had fever and the show was a dissappointment. I have enjoyed him immensely otherwise, his CDs and tubes.
He's Samar Saha, highly rated in Kolkata & preferred as an accompanist because of his subdued & gimmick-free style. Never tries to overshadow the main artiste & always follows them sedately.
He's fantastic for afficionados - not for those used to gimmicks & loud noise - points i was trying to make in my earlier post! Maybe we actually agree more than we disagree ;p
In fact old school musicians such as Kumar Gandharva hardly allowed any gimmicks from their tabla accompanists. That trend started with the instrumentalists.
You certainly have a point there. For instance, this sawal-jawab business is really often overdone. When Ravi Shankar (I think) introduced it, for sheer novelty it captured the imagination of most people; but with the element of surprise gone, it should perhaps be more sparingly used.
Your observation very pertinent. i also feel that this trend was introduced by Ravi Shankar. Was this a result of the time that he spent learning/absorbing some of the intricacies of 'layakari' from a guru of Carnatic music in South India? Similar things happen in Carnatic music.
@ande1718 well its the process where the singer/instrumental plays a short tukda of maybe 1 avarthan length in taal, and either the other instrument/percussion emulates him. usually the sections get shorter, till they are a beat in length. see it here right at the start:
@allfieldsreq Whats not to like? He's one of the best and especially for vocalists. Always right with the singer and gives so much energy without getting in the way.

@dams0001 sawal javab was introduced thru influence from the south, where it is structured into the tani avartanam the percussionists play.
