Saw him for the first time earlier this week in Leeds, UK. Just blew me away even though he's from 1000s of miles away, really spoke to me and everyone at the gig - total respect fella.
His music should be everywhere. He is brilliant! Frankly, I almost consider him a National Treasure...and that is reserved for Greats of years and years of music. He is so forceful, with that magnificent voice, that he just overtakes anything out there right now. Thank you.
Played last night, 9-14-2010, at the Bottleneck in Lawerance, Kansas and the show was jaw dropping amazing. His guitar broke about half way through and he played the night out on his banjo. there is no doubt this man is a genius with words and music.
@MRPEMF I was at that show. When he did Mutiny with the crowd pounding the floors acting as his drum beat... it was the most amazing thing I have ever experienced. I LOVE William Elliott Whitmore.
Saw him playing in a club in San Fransisco, he is fucking amazing. His voice is like that of an old blues singer who ate an ash tray and downed it with a whiskey bottle and traveled through the desert for a week. A pure, savage, dry voice on William Elliott Whitmore and I love it.
I just heard him for the first time, thanks to my beer runs. They are always listenting to some awesome music at the liquir ho. Reminds me a bit more Tom Waits than Jonny Cash, but I do love them both.
Amazing songs and incredible voice. I heard W.E.W. for the first time recently here on the radio and I was hooked. Is it just me, but does he share the same kind of genre/style as Johnny Cash? No insults intended folks either way - just an observation.
Now that would be a perfect day for me...to be in Dublin AND see William! Hope you enjoyed the show, should be over by now. I haven't missed a show of his when he is in St. Louis since I discovered him a few years ago, and he is a true artist and gentleman.
I went to school with Will. He's an incredibly smart guy and was always so talented. He was the funniest guy I knew and we had such good times together. He has had a rough life so please support him all you can, he deserves it.
I got into WEW years ago when also getting tattooed. Its amazing just how fast music like this can work on u...Although i seem to dislike any other type of music now. Not a bad thing i guss when u heard the sort of shit out there.

My son, who is not yet 2 but a very vocal soul, just crawled on my lap, bobbing his head and said song, good, song.

I would sell most of my internal organs if it meant William Elliot Whitmore and Tom Waits would make an album together.

This music is incredible. Trying to categorize it is a waste of time. It just is. Without fail, I'll be seeing WEW next time he comes my way.

Well, I'd say that not only does he not sound particularly like Cash, it's not really the same neighborhood of music.
BERSERKERpoetry 2 years ago
i'd say he's more of a Tom Waits meets Woody Guthrie
