Patrick himself claimed the band never broke up. In a interview, he said people will come up to him on the street and say "Sorry Fall Out Boy broke up" and he responds with "If you know something I don't".

All bands at some point do this. We just gotta wait it out. I feel they all improving. Pete seems to be getting better with his bass. And Joe's guitar talents will be noted in the Damned Things, same with Andy. So when they do return. They'll be better than ever. And I'll wait to witness it.

When you think about it, 'singing the symphonies of the overdosed' is Patrick singing the songs that Pete wrote, because Pete attempted suicide by taking an overdose of the anxiety medication Ativan (which inspired the song Seven Minutes In Heaven (Atavan Halen)).
