Do get it twisted she kept him In his Own pen away from the other males and was spoiled rotten not fair to attack her because buck found a crazy horse his tricks wouldn't work on she was a little crazy but all horse people are a little wired and crazy
In this world there are bad people and bad animals for no rhyme or reason they are just bad the lady who had that horse kelly was not a bad person just in over her head she helped me with the horses that stayed on my property many times cause I don't like horses and Kelly helped make that still true today Kelly was a bad horse that should have been put down long before he attacked her or anybody else
I was there and watched that horse attack her he bit and kicked her so violently she begged me not to shoot him he was kept in a pen that was next to my drive way and house that horse would follow me in the dark while I would take my trash out and snort and kick Kelly was a crazy horse I had to tell her to move him off the property line or I would shoot him I had kids and lived in fear of that horse and yes she had 18 male horses and 1donkey and they would go nuts and it would sound like a cal
Saw the movie and loved it. Was sad when they decided to put the 2 year old cold down. It was the right decision maybe but it was such a human failure, not the animals fault. I wish Buck would have talked more about the importance of gelding. In a case like that just gelding might have made a difference had it been done earlier. Not to mention the lady said she had 18 studs? Yikes! Not fair to the horse and he paid with his life. Hopefully she went home and gelded all 18 horses.
@asrotties seriously doubt it. She probably went home and started giving away horses! lol it would sure cost a lot to geld 18 studs, not to mention if they are anything like that colt in the movie was good luck getting near them!! What a shame, like you said, but gelding probably wouldnt have made a difference in that horse, orphans are orphans, and they are the worst of the worst. No natural fear for humans, so they will do anything to you they will to another horse. No distinguishing.
@Hudson2012 I was sooo horrified when i heard her say 18 colts!!! Oh and agree about the orphans comment, I ride a pony that was an orphan and he is much more dangerous then the completely green thoroughbred I ride!!
We LOVED this movie. What Buck says applies to so much more than horses. He is a beautiful person with a true understanding about love, life and kindness. A must see!
I have never seen this documentary, but I now make it my life's mission to witness everything the complete film has to offer. Just seeing the trailer has made me break down into tears. Since I have went through the abuse and emotional heartache similar to his own, I can really relate. Nobody else in my family understands my passion for being with and understanding horses. I'm trapped in a world where I must at least pretend to conform to my families wishes. This has given me hope.
i caught part of this movie on tv... which surprised me because it was supposed to be a totally different movie. it had me in tears by the end. i can't wait to see the first half of it! he's a person i can relate to... i'm the only "horse person" in my family and no one has understood my connection with horses. they see a talent but don't get how personal it is for my life. how at one i feel with each horse i work with, to watch a kindrid spirit explain exactly what i never could is inspiring.
Today I rode a very young horse, 5 years or so, who just stopped racing, I tried to catch him, it didn't work, than I let him choose to come see me, 30 sec later his head was in my arm =)
@gusgus1219 no he's happily married with kids. Watch the movie? And what would it matter if he was gay? It's a wonderful film and he's a wonderful person.
Gosh I want to see this so badly! I totally believe in positive training methods but I never knew there were some for horses! I can't wait to learn what he has to offer. :)
Breaking the cycle is one of the most admirable things you can do. It shows incredible strength of character, even though I'm sure it is absolutely terrifying to go against how you have been taught to behave. Everybody breaks free from their parents, but few do it so completely as Buck seems to have. I admire him for recognizing he didn't deserve to be beaten by his father and stopping that bullshit in its tracks.
Wow. This movie is SO great. It is original, fresh, FUNNY, heartwarming, and yet heartbreaking at the same time. I saw it on fillmsi.co.cc and I was amaized

@XxOperaGhostxX Wow you are really high on your self, in your comment you belittle Buck and praise yourself at the same time.
Buck IS natural horsemanship, He is the original. Pat, Clinton, all of you "natural Horsemanship" ppl are coat tail riders. Buck is a pioneer in the world of natural horsemanship. Buck has been quietly helping horses since the 70's
Jesus I can believe you can act so high and mighty.
@proteus1579 actually Bill Dorrance is considered the origanal natural horseman. the gentleman you responded to did not say anything negative about buck but actually said something buck says. in a nutshell anyone can do this. thats why all the big names including buck do seminars.
also look up ray hunt. so by saying all those people rode in on his coat tails you are also saying he rode in on ray hunts coat tails who rode in on the dorrance brothers coat tails and they learned from somebody. the idea is not to immitate these people but to learn from them and improve on what they do.
How many time you spend on the internet every day and actually for nothing?? Change it....do something, watch something that will be worth every minute.. Find out look4movie and its great movies that are here just for you. There is always something good to see, and what is important-for free.

This is something that many people may not be aware of but with films like this, or similar ones dealing with other topics, they may be able to reach a broader audience. There’s a new movie, Programming the Nation?, that seems like it could work in this way too. The film addresses the actions of the media and how their manipulation of images or subliminal messaging affects their audiences. A very intense look at reality, bitly .com/oQ0ZVk.
Love how he points out that 'a horse can tell you a lot about a person'. Deeply inspired by this film though my horse didn't cooperate as well. Perhaps I am not enough of a 'tortured soul'. My horse has 'people problems'.
@MonaLisaTime Or maybe your horse is just a jerk. B-) We had a Mare that was just plain mean and angry all of the time, she was 'whispered' and still nothing, she was unusable on trails, constantly backing up over bridges and heading home. So eventually we handed her off to a friend as a pasture pal. No problems with our other two mares, or our gelding. Sometimes, it actually is the horse.
This is a fabulous documentary on an extraordinary man and animal. Not only will you see a great film but you'll learn Bucks role developing/filming The Horse Whisperer. You don't need to be a Equestrian, nor a mere admirer of Horses, too learn something about ones own self... which this film can help lead one to.
Buck, a richly textured and visually stunning film, follows Buck Brannaman, a true American cowboy, from his abusive childhood to his phenomenally successful approach to horses. A real-life "horse-whisperer," he eschews violence teaches people to communicate with their horsesthrough leadership and sensitivity, not punishment.
I was really going along with the video and I was wanting to see it and then Eddie Vedder started singing that awful song and now I don't know if I can do it.
Is there a chance to watch this online???? I am from Germany and read these great comments and I am like a cat on hot briggs. I want ti watch this. Who is this guy ? What is his name?
look out for it at film festivals. it is in new zealand now at the film festivals travelling the country. i live in a small town and it is even coming here in October. I've marked it on my calendar!
This looks like a fantastic movie, and probably one of the first horse movies my parents won't roll their eyes at when I ask to see it (: This is beautiful, and I can't wait to see it! (I'm going tonight with a horse lover friend, and can hardly stand the hours until then!)
I saw this movie yesterday. The story is about a man who lives and teaches tranquility, patience and confidence. The world needs more Bucks. This guy is the coolest cat on the planet!
all creatures (two & four legged) respond like a mirror to how they are treated. I once had a friend who works with troubled youth in sea scouts say "if folks just raised kids the way they do their dogs, there'd be no bad kids". A gentle hand and a calm voice doesn't work wonders, it only returns that which was sown into it.
Horses are NOT merely a reflection of the person working with them. They are born with strong personalities and inclinations. I have one horse that is naturally very nervous and fearful, and another who has been treeing bears since he was a weanling -- bold as brass and totally confident. I've trained them both since babies. Does that make me schizophrenic? Yes, we can moderate and influence, but horses are THEIR OWN BEINGS.
@timmay301 watching a man with a horse and how he is with them certainly can teach you about life and how we should behave and it can help you look at yourself more honestly. A person who thinks they can't learn from something is already handicapped by that attitude. Maybe you need to see it more than you realise just because you think this way

Horses are a mirror...absolutely! I have 2 that are more friends that people are, treat them with respect, boundaries and care, they give it back to you 10 fold.
For those who wish to be negative ie: JQisAwesom..the blog your wrote reflects YOUR soul. Why are you so angry, could it be this hit a nerve. Thus protest way too much.
@AGTW31 Why so negative? You cannot compare the two. Horses are not dogs. Cesar is not Buck. They are both gifted. This you can say. Appreciate both men.
@1224blackstar This man Buck IS the Horse Whisperer. He has written several books, and he was the inspiration for the Redford Film. Robert Redford gives an interview in the Buck film. Just go see it. It's Amazing.
This movie was awful. in the opening scene, the guys says "My name is Buck, and I'm here to fuck.." then goes on and on about how you need to break a horse in nice and hard real quick, just like a bitch...
This is the real deal. So simple but so profound. Buck is a horseman with a heart! Must see feel good movie. True story. Coming to HillCrest in San Diego.
I like horses, but they are big and strong and have teeth and hooves and they can kill you, so caution is important. I saw some videos of a guy feeding horses and he made them stay at the other end of the coral any time he had to enter their pen to do things. He took a whip in with him so they would learn to stay away. Yes people need to be taught to deal with animals w/o cruelty.
This looks beautiful and I can't wait to see it! One of the ladies I go to for clinics for my mare uses a lot of the same methods and I just love them! I especially love the spatial concepts for groundwork and making a "safe space" for your horse (early on in the previews I noticed he's using the same methods). They really learn to trust you on the ground and in the saddle. Either way, this documentary looks amazing.
@squallz13, I'm not going to try to change your opinion, you're more than entitled to it; however, please take the time to check out the official safety standards for professional rodeo associations. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Buck is one of the people who has revolutionized how people think about horses, and how we treat them. Please see this documentary, or at least read one or two of his articles. If you come back after being informed and still have the same opinion, that's fine.
@squallz13, I definitely agree with you on the need for prevention of animal suffering. But, I promise you, professional rodeos put their animals before any other priority. The PRCA is one of the strictest advocates for animal rights. There are rudimentary rodeos that do not put the welfare of their livestock first, however thankfully those are declining due to the higher standards set by the pro associations. The statistics are much higher for animal protection thanks to folks like Buck. :)
@squallz13 This is not a rodeo dumb ass you have no idea dip shit id like to drag you behind my beloved horse then piss on your bodie you little fucker you don't know anything you are ignorant to the world shure i would like to kill some of those people in Spanish rodeos yes those are cruel but if you fucking idea if you had listened you would of herd that he is preaching peace and more humane ways of training animals and pleas if you dont know what your talking about dont say it!!!!!!!!!!!
My Dad does team calf roping in rodeos with me for competition and most of those animals are treated better than the people that is in the rodeos the fort worth stock show rodeo, Austin rodeo, Dallas, and most other Texas rodeos. so i don't know what your talking about. i have been to Spain tho and yes thay treat there animals like crap and are abusive but not Texas rodeos even the bulls are treated like kings.
He offers classes around the country throughout the year! To be a spectator at his classes is $20 and well worth it. Google search Buck Brannaman for the rest of this years schedule.
Hello, reader. If you started reading this, don't stop or else. I hate people who post these kind of comments but.... cesar milan already did this with dogs.

@1224blackstar The horses whisper film was based on Buck's life...

This movie was awful. in the opening scene, the guys says "My name is Buck, and I'm here to fuck.." then goes on and on about how you need to break a horse in nice and hard real quick, just like a bitch...
fuck this asshole...

Either way, this documentary looks amazing.

rodeos are cruel.. go fuck yourselves you cowfucks
squallz13 9 months ago
@squallz13, I'm not going to try to change your opinion, you're more than entitled to it; however, please take the time to check out the official safety standards for professional rodeo associations. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Buck is one of the people who has revolutionized how people think about horses, and how we treat them. Please see this documentary, or at least read one or two of his articles. If you come back after being informed and still have the same opinion, that's fine.
CecilySebastian 9 months ago
@CecilySebastian
I'm sure he has made it better. But there's still 90% out there that harm animals for the sake of entertainment.
There is no need to make animals suffer no matter how large for the sake of entertainment. Rodeo's are a sick and cruel joke.
squallz13 9 months ago
@squallz13, I definitely agree with you on the need for prevention of animal suffering. But, I promise you, professional rodeos put their animals before any other priority. The PRCA is one of the strictest advocates for animal rights. There are rudimentary rodeos that do not put the welfare of their livestock first, however thankfully those are declining due to the higher standards set by the pro associations. The statistics are much higher for animal protection thanks to folks like Buck. :)

@squallz13 This is not a rodeo dumb ass you have no idea dip shit id like to drag you behind my beloved horse then piss on your bodie you little fucker you don't know anything you are ignorant to the world shure i would like to kill some of those people in Spanish rodeos yes those are cruel but if you fucking idea if you had listened you would of herd that he is preaching peace and more humane ways of training animals and pleas if you dont know what your talking about dont say it!!!!!!!!!!!
sammm208 7 months ago
@sammm208
wow hypocrite much!?
Being humane in a rodeo is like fucking for virginity
squallz13 7 months ago
@squallz13

Forever a horse lover and I already feel inspired and can't wait to get back in the saddle!
Knowing the reality of being around horses is God's gift to the soul and those who don't know it should experience it.
I can tell he is a beuaitful man one hard to find and in tune with his soul and those of horses!
