  • Try it with OS X!

  • @tino730 I actually did, but OS X is not made to run on such a small screen and it wasn't too friendly to the Netbook. While I am an OS X fan, and it did run just fine, there were some applications that I couldn't even see the bottom of because it didn't like the 10" screen.

  • Installed it on my HP mini 210 with upgraded ram. Works faster than windows 7 ever did for just using the internet. Seems to have also got rid of the constant crashing with windows 7 on it. It crashed so often that it was basically useless.

  • @hehfilms it can play crysis just use wine

  • Ubuntu Is Epic On My Dell Inspiron | 710m

  • Its way faster the windows Fuck you eindows Pinguings are better than flags HIHIHI :SD XDX DXD XD XD

  • what is the website for downloading the usb boot for the drive to work on the usb or sd card form the computer or netbook ?

  • @hehfilms I hear ya....currently I am enjoying OS X Lion...I gotta say I am absolutely impressed with it. I hope you have great luck with Linux!

  • and yes. Windows is much more powerful

  • use openoffice and linux is much beter then windows 7

  • @tania2020tania To run the netbook at a decent pace, I agree!

  • @techgooch: Linux is much stable than windows and secure.

  • too much "ugh" it's killing me

  • hp mini 110 ... constant crashes .. very laggy on windows 7 starter

culda threw on xp but im kinda bored off it

GOT UBUNTU! <33 explains it all :D

  • I'm going to buy Acer Aspire One C60 netbook. Thanks to this video I'll buy cheaper version without Windows, Ubuntu is good enough.

  • thanks friend good video :)

  • Linux >>>> Mac OS >>>> Windows

  • I have the dell mini 10v too :D

  • will it work on 1024x600 resolution and intel GMA graphic card? tx

  • @TheRino2009z Yeah. That's what his netbook is. That's what all 10" netbooks are.

  • @Chintendoeddman ok tx..but 1 more question, how to install adobe flash player? i searched in google about it and it said "download the deb format"..i cant find the deb format in adobe website, what should i do? xD

  • @TheRino2009z Simple. There are two `ways. The first one involves going to a youtube video and clicking the button that says "Install missing plugins". That should work. If not, then try this one. Go to the adobe page. Download the "APT" version. I have no clue why they got rid of the "DEB" version. The APT version will update whenever there is a new version of adobe flash. Also, if you download Google Chrome, it has built in adobe flash.

  • @Chintendoeddman hmm..ok tx! ^^

  • how to download this OS?

  • @donzaliko download it from the unbuntu website and select the netbook edition. Then mount to a DVD or cd, and install. If you don't have a DVD drive look up wubi on google and you can now dual boot this and whatever else you have installed on your PC

  • @donzaliko ubuntu dot com

  • Was your wifi name Schuyler? Thats my name haha! I like the way you (and I) spell it i think its nicer looking haha.

  • @schuyler777 Close, Schuster, as it is my last name. At least we are both Schu's!

  • @schuyler777 It's a Dutch name. In modern day Dutch you'd spell it as 'Schuiler'. It means something like someone looking for shelter.

  • "It boots up allot faster then windows 7 starter"

    . nah shit....

  • lol, exact same USB Drive as me!

  • Linux netbook doesn't come close to windows 7 starter.

  • lol tech gooch. Whats next, Electric Chode?

  • WTF? USA even online has weather girl..

  • NOT as powerful as WINDOWS? what a fail!! Do not revoew something you did not do your homework on. Also YOU have to use teh console to use anything? WTF? you are such a technology failure that I will not waste my time explaining shit to you. THERE are shitload of software alternatives for linux. If anything windows is more powerful than windows. Linux is HAnd ON. But you should stick with windows it suites NOOBS and People with technical difficulties better.

  • @Raja221 Linux is more powerful ..

  • @Raja221 Ok.

  • @Raja221

And it's linux zealots like yourself that turn people away from your god, er I mean OS ;-)

  • @codeythesilent Right, I think it is hilarious that you tag me as a Linus Zealot! Holding my sides in laughter!

  • @codeythesilent GOOD :) I want all for myself. :) I want to be special seeeee

  • I'm just gonna wait for Ubuntu Netbook Edition 11.04. I'm not really a fan of 10.10 Netbook Edition. I'm using Jolicloud in the meantime. I'm pretty sure 11.04 will have a lot of improvements comparing to 10.10 Netbook Edition. Nice video, by the way! :)

  • there good & bad of linux and windows for windows issues virus not much of a community and freedom? for linux less 3th parties support less advertising and not many people knowing there is a second choice out there?

  • @2111thekiller good parts for windows gaming advertising and more 3th parties support good parts of linux opensource good community and freedom? oh yes check out what opensource is what it it is for on wiki?

  • @2111thekiller both operating system are great for different needs you be more happier if you find the perfect one for your problems ether it windows or linux or unix(ubuntu, arch, fedora, android, bsd, debain) etc find the perfect for you?

  • I have an Acer Aspire One and I have the Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop Edition on it and it runs it perfectly, I would prefer that over the netbook edition

  • dude could you casually gloss over that very important website address with the very important iso file anymore nonchalantly. " and then ill justgo to blahubutin.blah bigten conference blah bcs sux.com and get this file..." specify claify uncify and the repeat nigga.

  • You should get the AdBlock add-on for Chrome :)

  • Not as powerful as W7?

    What's that supposed to mean?

  • @AlumarsX I guess I didn't mean not as powerful, just not in the same way that Windows is. What I meant, even though I guess I didn't do a good job saying it was with Windows you don't need to use the console for almost anything, so it can appear to be easier for people to use. I guess it is just the Windows part of me that keeps wanting to make Windows seem the best. Everyday, I find another reason why I like Linux and Mac OS X better though :)

  • @AlumarsX

Subjective, but seriously, make a few REALISTIC guesses. It's not that hard.

  • @AlumarsX W7 means Windows 7?

  • @pat20105 yeah

  • "Linux isn't as powerful as windows"

    FAIL

  • @gallagherm1993 Try run a top generation game in linux... Linux Ubuntu is awesome '-', but Win7 is more :P, absolutely!!!! And why I say this? Linux has a community with millions of people developing him, but Windows has billions of Dollars to develope him. Thing about it!!!

  • @gallagherm1993 C'mon you guys. As much as I love Ubuntu, the truth is it's not as fast as Windows 7. I personally don't expect it to be faster, Windows 7 is backed by millions, billions of dollars. Ubuntu is backed by community love an dedication. It's not a matter of speed, its a matter of freedom, and its there were Linux reigns king.

  • @gallagherm1993 He only means the net book edition. CALM DOWN! we all know Linux is much better!

  • @gallagherm1993 im thinking he meant the netbook version of ubuntu

  • can you replace hard drives in netbooks? Can i switch out the HDD with an SSD because I used ubuntu (desktop) now with an SSD and am addicted to how fast it boots haha

  • hi techgooch,

I'm using an hp mini110 and i tried booting ubuntu from a live usb flash drive. except that once i booted, the screen only displayed copyright info for linux. what's going on? i followed the instructions on the ubuntu website word for word.

  • @mrtn474 It sounds as if either you got a bad image, or something got messed up in the process. Send a link to the guide you are using.

  • @techgooch thank you so much, but i ended up using netbootin (i think). but i'm past that now. i installed it in windows7 using wubi :)

  • so would you recommend ubuntu or windows 7 for a netbook?

  • @triplexlink It really depends on your situation. Are there applications that you really need to run? While Ubuntu has Wine and you will be able to set it up on it, sometimes win7 is a better option. Ubuntu will be faster and feel more snappy, but win7 is more powerful. If you are more comfortable with a certain OS, might as well stick with it. It also depends on your hardware specs, as win7 will require more system resources. Base your choice on what you have to work with and what you need!

  • @techgooch well considering that a netbook can't do much. i only wish to surf the web or watch videos on youtube. currently i am running on windows 7 starter. i am afraid that if i install ubuntu and delete win7, i would lose win7 and win7 is not free. i'm not sure if it's possible but can you run 2 OS on one netbook?

  • @triplexlink That is what mine came with, but my Dell came with the Windows Starter install DVD...so I can always reinstall. You can create a backup disc for it so you can experiment with linux, but for your case I would actually recommend linux. Ubuntu is a good start, but be sure to check my reviews on Jolicloud as well! And yes, you can run 2 OS's, as long as you are ok with the amount of space each require! If you use win disk management, you can shrink your current partition.

  • @techgooch actually i have the exact same dell inspiriron mini except that i have only 1 gb ram. i don't know how you backup the disc since i brought this computer refurbrished. i would really want to try out ubuntu if i knew how to backup the disc.

  • @triplexlink I would check to see if they created a restore partition on the hard drive rather than send discs. Just right click "My Computer", select "Manage", then select "Disk Management" from the left menu. This will show how all of your disks are assigned and partitioned. Just check the C drive allocation and partitioning. If there isn't a restore partition, then you would need to create a recovery disk or USB key, there are lots of articles online on that. Maybe I will do a tutorial soon?

  • @triplexlink it is posible to run both side by side without losing the win7. it's very easy actually. search youtube for dual booting

  • You can download v1.1 and update it via software update to 1.2 :)

personally, i didnt noticed any difference, its a core update.

  • IF your trying to find good OS to run on netbooks, or you just want to test them, try MeeGo v1.1 im interested would you like it.

  • @enumasan I may just have to try that one. Thanks!

  • @techgooch I tryed MeeGo 1.2 last night.. and i must say that im not happy.. It is optimized for netbooks, but its functionality is .... crappy... it doesnt have NTFS support so u need to compile drivers for it, no divX support, again compiling drivers (around 20-30mins) and when you install something u cant find its shortcut nowhere.. i installed Oo3 and didnt menage to find or pin its shortcut to pp tab.

  • @enumasan Sounds like you had some fun with it...hehe. Well, I will see if I can't give it a try in the coming weeks and post a review of my own. Thanks!

  • @techgooch Heh, i had trouble making Ubuntu rmx boot to install it on my Aspire One, but when i managed, believe me, its like i discovered hot watter again. :)

  • @enumasan I have had my share of problems getting my usb keys setup to boot as well, but I always seem to get it in the end!

  • @enumasan MeeGo 1.2 is not even released yet. Did you try some alpha or beta release?

  • I figure it's late to let you know this, but if you're still having trouble with microsoft office on it, just use open office and save them as doc. files. This way you can open them on an microsoft system.

  • @wtfan Thats what I would recommend as well, but I was just trying to put it on there to see how it would work. Thanks for the comment though!

  • @FlamingGaming1 For my setup, it worked without additional configuration. Which wireless card do you have? I have the Dell 802.11n card, which was an upgrade option when I ordered mine. I would find out which card you have (if nothing else, open up the bottom and take the actual card model number off it) and google for the right drivers.

  • hey. i hope u can help me. i want to install ubuntu netbbok on my netbook. "neo by compal" it has same features as yors except the ram(u upgraded it to 2gb), now, my prob is, i cant install ubuntu properly. once i sucessfully installed it but it doesnt load until i press some keys in the keyboard. even if i shut it down. next, i uninstalled and installed i again, but in the installation process, it doesnt load again until i press some keys. whats the prob?

  • @zsacav I had some similar problems with installing OS X on my laptop, and still have problems. Just like my Netbook, I have been fooling around with my Laptop and Desktop too, although Windows 7 is still my favorite to run (just used to it I guess). For your situation, I would first look at others who installed linux on your netbook and try to get a similar version. Sounds like the boot loader is your problem! I am not that familiar with linux, so I would advise you google it!

  • I have the Mini 10 not the mini 10v and do you think this version of linux would be ok on it..(for a 12 year old that just surfs the net)

  • @sicknecro It will work great and run very quickly.

  • @elrealfoley or would Kubuntu be better? more like windows i hear

  • @sicknecro I prefer Ubuntu, but give both of them a try. Install each one to a flash drive and run them each before installing. Enjoy!

  • @elrealfoley i installed Kubuntu on my desktop as a secondary.... and love it... think thats what i am gonna do on the netbook

  • @sicknecro It will run almost as good as it does on the 10v, it's just doesn't have as good as processor as the 10v and you cannot upgrade the memory.

  • very cool ^-^

what are the specifications of the machine

excellent recording too (i love Netbooks :)

UBUNTU net + CHROME 8 = Awesome Machine
