The same thing was done during the Carter administration. In those years we were told oil would run out by this time. We are dependent on oil period. We love our SUVs. We can´t just drill our way out of the situation. If we opened ANWR today we wouldn´t see a penny from it for at least 10 years. By that time we could have spent the time and money on alternatives, which is happening anyway. It´s not the eighties anymore.

What he needs to do is give major tax cuts to everybody so they can invest and boost the economy. I don't mean even more cuts for the wealthy but they're the ones who invest the most and are the ones who employ us. i do believe that the fundamentals of our economy are strong. i believe that people with good work ethics and the money to accomplish their dreams and build something will try to do so if unhindered by policies and taxes. but i also think that many of these large corporations self destructed. golden umbrellas, unions with too many benefits and too much pay, rampant borrowing of ludicrous amounts of tied up funds. i think they deserved to fail. but building bridges wont fix it for long

it was the clinton administration that pushed to lower the standards for home buying, including the requirements for home owner loans. housing market started the whole thing. no $ for house= no $ for anything else=no buying from businesses=businesses cut jobs to make overhead or go bankrupt= even less $= even less spending (repeat cycle)
let the folk who got in over their heads fall so they can get themselves out (a little smarter now), cut the expenses of the business owners= no more job cuts

I appreciate your explanation, but you failed to explain what you meant by both the senate and the house were democratic for the majority of Bush's administration. Care to explain this comment? The other thing if you care to explain, why when Bush's administration, which it's well documented knew about the housing market, yet failed to take action and did nothing about it, they're as guilty. Maybe that's why McCain (the fundamentals of the economy are strong), did'nt talk about the economy.

youre right, i didnt explain. ill go do a bit of research and see how the two weighed in party-wise for the two terms of office.
I believe that the bush administration, and note i said believe because ive never asked the man, didnt do anything because, quite simply, it seemed to be working. and until the bubble got as large as it did no one really perceived the possibility of the market collapsing. Im not saying they did the right thing, but at least now we know that it wasnt.

The "stimulus" is full of pork, anyone who has read through the different programs to which money is going could see that. I mean, how is giving money to NASA going to stimulate the economy and stop the housing crisis? unless they find chests full of gold on the moon.
when the american people voted they did not vote for rash, unfulfilling spending. they voted for someone they thought would be more honest and straightforward. so far he's given us everything we dont want and nothing we do

I heard from a self proclaimed Republican that, they were for illegal wiretapping, which is unconstitutional. Yet, they call the fairness doctrine unconstitutional. The fairness doctrine is good because some people can't discern the truth from propaganda lies, so it's a way to protect people. If you were to study what democrats say versus republicans you would see the republicans, have more lies under there belt versus democrats, that's not to say both parties are innocent.
