@forXXXskylineXXX Mehmed II was a powerful emperor, educated & with knowledge of the greek civilisation (Alexander the Great etc) and the persian culture. He ruled as kayser-i-rum (caesar of the Romans) and a lot of his counselors were renegade Christians (Zaganos pasha).
The conquest of Constantinople was a great success, but, if we want to be fair, the City fell because there were extremely few men to defend it. The Ottoman army was at least 10 times bigger than that of the Romans.

@POTIS1 I think the number 285,000 is somewhat exaggerated. The Ottomans had a much larger army, noone can deny it; maybe it was 14-15 times bigger than the Roman one.
You should know, though, that the ancient and the medieval historians tended to exaggerate for various reasons. E.g. I don't think that anyone believes Xerxes had the millions of soldiers with him in Thermopylae that Herodotus says. The Ottoman data give us a number around 80,000. I think it could be between 80 and 100 thousands.

@POTIS1 Noone until the the 16th century had used the name Byzantine for the empire, why should I call it so? The empire was the Roman Empire/Rhomania (Ρωμανία). It was multinational in its beginning, but during the fall it had almost 100% hellenic people. Of course the greek civilisation & language was dominant from the early stages.
I use the name Roman because that was the title of all the emperors and because all the world except for the Franks used the same word. I can explain why and how.

They didn't establish (founded) the cannon, the Chinese did. Or it can mean the past tense of find, but that is not true either because they bought it off a Hungarian blacksmith who went to them for the commission. So the cannons found them.
