  • Curse you for making me wish current Nintendo was more like old SEGA.

  • There were two YM2612s in the Sega Genesis, one for each stereo channel- this allowed for four voices of FM synthesis per stereo channel.

  • @douro20 Dead wrong, there was only one ym2612 in the megadrive, I no cause am staring at my project am developing right now.

  • Anybody else start dancing once the song picked up?

  • DAMN these beats are PHRESH

  • I love it!

    -kidThunder

  • fucking awesome!!!

i really love the sound of the YM2612

    SEGA RULZ!!!

  • Nice bro, how do you use the Yamaha2612, i've been wanting to use it and compose with it but i neither know where to get it or how to use it

  • This sounds more like the OPL3 chip then the YM2612 or whatever Genesis uses.

  • @sonicfan966

It was made in TFM music maker, TFM can export a genesis rom, this is 100% YM2612 valid.

  • @ShadeCS Well, I knew that it was valid, I was just making a comparison.

  • @sonicfan966 Cause the drums are using FM and not DAC like allot of megadrive did, OPL2/3 based zgames used the fm for drums, I no where ya coming from here man.

  • @PartlyAwesome If this is how it would've sounded in Bloodlines, you wouldn't have even heard the main melody begin by the time you reached Drac.

  • SMOOTH and SWEET. Well done. Have done alot of fm-styled stuff good to see others into it also.

  • This sounds more evil than the original IMO.

  • Damn, he even has the pre-melody ambience in there, bravo. :D

  • Just the sound of the YM2612's "bass" and "drum" tracks instantly remind me of Castlevania Bloodlines.

  • Simply, AWESOME!

  • Ahh. More YM2612 music. :D This is getting in my favorites. Well done on this tune. :D

  • surpasses the original

  • @BlizzardOfTheCoast: Nah, the original is still a better tune, but this comes pretty close.

  • mind if I take a look at the TFM file for this and/or other tracks? Would be cool to study them.

  • Might upload the whole batch of them after I'm mostly done, but there are still a few songs here and there I'd like to do before ending this project.

  • @THEmuteKi Can you please tell me what effects you use on the bass at 1:04-1:35 and 1:45? been pulling my hair trying to replicate those :P

  • I just used two tracks, one panned left and one panned right, and detuned one a single unit high and detuned the other a single bit low (that is, the "201" and "101" control is put on every note).

  • ah simple as that huh... but this lone one at the 1:04 is something different right? genskmod and vgmplay didn't make me any wiser. anyway, keep up the good work :)

  • I'm not quite sure why the effect isn't very pronounced. The stereo depth should be greater than this.

Of course, you can always just do the effect without the panning if you'd like :P

  • It seems to me like the stereo support in TFM is somewhat buggy, some instruments will be completely separated while others appear merged in the middle and sometimes even separate notes from the same instrument come out different :P Hoping for a fix along with some PSG support for the next version.

I'll try the detune when i get home (my guess was a TL or Mult command on OP#1 for that gritty sounding mono bass), thanks!

  • nice version, I always thought the lead in the original was pretty weak and this sounds quite good.

During the first chorus I thought the left-panned instrument was a bit too bass-heavy and loud, it steals the show from the lead.

you should try syncing two tracks, one using 3 psg channels :)

  • That would've been most epic to have Castlevania IV on the Sega Genesis.

  • It might be like Gxscce, which can only take midi's

  • Cool XD

  • Listening to this kinda makes me wish that Super Castlevania IV should have been ported to the Sega Genesis...

Indeed the YM2612 kicks ass. I really wish that I could compose this kind of music, but TFM Music Maker is a pain in the ass to figure out.

  • Do you have a soundblaster live/audigy soundcard or access to one? If not, go find one, and contact me, i can help you out (take a gander at my profile to see what im brewing up). I feel for you folks. This chip is god!

  • I am such a huge fan of the YM-2612 chip! I don't know how to compose music, but I would like to compose my own tunes using the same YM-2612 chip used on the Genesis.

  • Alot of time invested evidently, and sounds definately authentic.

Fan of the YM chip myself.

I am in the process of making a synthesizer that emulates as closely as possible while expanding upon it a little (making some thing just universally sound 'better'...trust me). It's about 4 megs and is 3+ years in the making check out my profile for more IF you are into vids like this... my vids are from stock midi on a self-made GM compatible instrument set. NO this isnt a sales pitch either, pfft!

  • Once you do dance of illusions I'll be IMPRESSED nigga

  • So let me get this straight: Simon's theme can be made to sound like this on a Genesis? Impressive.

    Do Bloody Tears next, please!

  • All in due time. I do plan to make a version of that song.

  • btw you CAN hear stereo on youtube! add &fmt=18 after the video url. Try it!

  • i know the genesis had so much more power then the snes in my upinion.

  • Very nice song!

  • ym2612 rocks!
