My dad was born in GY in 1918 and it made him sad every time we came back to visit family. I remember the south denes caravan camp in the 1960's and having holidays there.
I went there as a kid, all the way from Wales, in 1965, 67, & 69 ; saw some big stars there : Eric & Ernie , who were DOWN the bill under Mike & Bernie Winters at the time, Mike Yarwood, Engelbert Humperdinck, Dora Bryan
What a fabulous video. As a kid growing up in Norwich, we often used to go to Great Yarmouth on a Sunday outing. I remember loving to ride on the Snails and the brief shot of the Gypsy fortune teller is still a familiar face to me. I loved the Roller coaster, even if it was a bit scary, it still stands today I believe.I live in South Africa now, but I have such fond memories of an East Anglian childhood.
Now its desolate, faintly intimidating at night, a bit depressing and a bit of a ghost town. But its in an area of beautiful broads, rivers, streams and lovely places to walk. Which is better? I'm not sure. All I know is you walk for 5 minutes beyond the ASDA store and you find yourself in a wonderworld of nature. I like that!
I remember going on these rides in the late 60s as a child and they looked like that then! great! and seeing Yarmouth as well, how I loved that place with mum and dad! God bless em,
Fabulous video. I was there in December 1951 in a Pantomime of Cinderella. We stayed on Regent Street. I recognize the shop selling bloaters. have never been back since as I now live in the USA. Probably if I did go back I would not recognize anything anymore as I am sure everything has changed
i live in yarmouth and yes i am 13 i have allways woundered what it was like then and i go to the pleashure beach like every week end lol thanks 4 puttin this on
i actually enjoed this video and found it really interesting, seing everything i see quite often over 50 years ago. That rollercoaster is still going as well

It's changed. Millions have been spent on the golden mile and it is much better than the tacky town it was becoming now.
