I think stevie had the strongest hands in the history of rock. at 03:43, when hes just bending that one string, he bends the 4th fret up to the 9th! As a guitarist myself, let me tell you, that's ridiculously hard even on a guitar with regular gauge strings like 10's. Stevie used 13's! He could probably throttle a t-rex with strength like that.
when SRV recorded this song he had no idea how many lives he would touch!!!! this song means so much to me and has taken on new meaning since i 1st heard it and as the years go passing by ive lost so many people, friends and family along the way but i find comfort thru this song that theyre all in a better place and listening to SRV wail this song somewhere up there!! GOD BLESS YOU STEVIE AND THANK YOU FOR THE LOVE YOU PASSED OUR WAY THRU YOUR MUSIC!!! GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU ALWAYS!!!
I think the big difference between great guitarists like SRV, Jimi Hendrix, Clapton, John Frusciante and John Mayer is that all of them but Mayer play from their heart and not for commercial aims. John Mayer has skills but he does everything to please his 14-year-old female fans....
@Ilovebeefroxmypants this was august 26 1986 it was a month before he collapsed and got help for his problems and a day before his father died before the show started his mom called him and told him about it and this was in memphis tennessee on the american caravan with lonnie mack....i hope this answers your question :)
I've started to preplan my funeral service, and while everyone is gathered talking to people who they haven't seen in years, this is going to be playing.
For what it's worth in the auto biography of his life there is an occurrence mentioned that SRV had with a pastor. He spent a lot of time speaking with this pastor. The pastor said that one night SRV prayed with the pastor to accept Christ. If you believe in this then that is good news for yourself. If God is real then that is great news for SRV. This happened not long before he died.
I suppose you would have to take what the pastor said as truth. It was the pastor's recounting of his time spent with him up to the day he died. I read this biography when I was 14. I am 32now. I honestly cried when I had finished the book realizing just what a great master he was and what a good man the world had lost on this day.
I wasn't bringing my faith in to anything here. I have no faith for religion of any kind. I just thought ppl might want to know that tid bit.

@hofflander Second that... it's like thanking god when a fireman saves someone out from a burning house... the only miracle there is the fireman's courage and determination...
Jimi was through with it before stevie knew what to do with it.

1 year ago what do you mean?
I would like an answer to that too. Jimi would have loved SRV. If you don't think so, then you know absolutely nothing about either one of them, or what they were trying to say.
Jimi was through with it before stevie knew what to do with it.
I would kind of like to know what that means also. Jimmy (If you mean Hendrix) would have loved SRV. I think you miss the point that both of them were about.
Stevie was legit. I don't think he would take the back seat to anyone.
God bless Stevie. Life without you has been made easier knowing that your music will never die. I watch theses videos and remember like it was yesterday and not 1985. My girlfriend and I had tickets to see Eric Johnson @ Steamboat in Austin, Texas on August 27th 1990. I was stoked until I woke up that morning and KLBJ Radio was playing SRV and they said he had been killed. Epic blow. Eric Johnson, with grace and humility of a true friend paid homage that night. I will never forget.
God Bless SRV, Ive been feeling down and out, rock bottom. Unable to land a job, no vehicle, just a bad turn of events. But I love what Stevie says starting from 5:30 in the video, it really hits home. I dont have much, but Thank you Lord for my family, my close friends for their love and support, cause in the end, all I have to give right now is my love to give....
This truely an amazing song. EVERYBODY : Check out the REMASTERED "In Step" album! There is what I consider to be the best version of "Life Without You" ever (they're all good), listed as a bonus track on the album. It was done live like this one (I don't know where). The feeling put into the solo will blow you away. Let me know what you think!
@krg465 I completely agree. I get choked up every time I hear that solo. You can just see/feel the emotion he puts into his music. You hear most musicians, but you feel Stevie's.
there is a true inspiration! stevie, ur an amazing inspiration, may your music and your spirit live on, well past the time of your body, your spirit in music will continue to touch the lives of otheres, SRV ladies and gentalmen.
FUCK!!! I miss Stevie so much, he really makes you feel the music! So many have come and gone but SRV will forever be known as one of the greatest! This song makes me fucking cry!!
HAPPY 55TH BIRTHDAY STEVIE, Life Without You, and the way you grin, I play your amazing music everyday, you are Truly missed and Loved by us all. You're still the BEST OF THE BEST
It is Amazing and a well picked song for that Night, cause he Just Buried his Father that Night and Chartered a Plane to Play here with Lonnie Mack! He is the Most Loved and Missed Man,Singer, and Guitarist Ever. So Real So True So Honest So Soulful. Pure Unrelenting Soul! I was Learning This solo the Day I heard the News He Died There were Teardrops all Over my Guitar that Day! So Loved.
That would be weird... I kinda ashamed of it but i would rather have eric be on the copter.... SRV is my biggest influence in my playing. Just think SRV might've still been with us and i could've seen him live maybe....
@dmmcmaster2007 He did... Claptons touring band at the time was killed in the HELICOPTER crash leaving the show that night @ Alpine Meadows. I was at the show and heard the news the next moring and I just burst into tears. If you read SRV's biography it's even more sad becasue with all he struggled with, his life had finally turned a corner and then he died... RIP SRV, The world is a lesser place without you.
Stevie is very dear and near to my heart, his music is uplifting and heartfelt,i wish he were alive today, but then again maybe the Lord gave him an early ticket home,so that he wouldn't go through the sufferings that most "pure" souls have to endure in this harsh world that tends to hate those who love...sad for us,But maybe when all is said and done, those of us who make it,will trade a few licks with him in that place where ALL blues will be played for joy, and no longer sorrow,God bless you all
@mindaflame7 im not trying to put a damper on things, but i think everything happens for a reason. Can you imagine Stevie alive today? Trying to hold on for survival in this shit music industry full of emotionless "song-writing"? Unfortunately, I think he would have ended up like most powerful musicians do; playing local bars for small crowds and remembering the golden days and having people see you as a washed up guitar player. I love that Stevie still lives on, so its better to just let it be.
@malcolmcox I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. There's no way Stevie would be considered a "washed up guitar player" if he were alive today.... I believe he would've followed the likes of BB King or Buddy Guy ~ and they are far from being considered "washed up". Just my opinion.
@NChorseluvr I agree SRV had staying power.Eric Clapton is a great example he is still having success playing large venues and staying relevant and Eric even says SRV was better than him so i think SRV would be successful in any era because he was so gifted and soulful his talent would have kept standing out but either way he is great.T.C.

~~I was so fortunate to live right by ALPINE VALLEY, and I saw his last concert before he died. World's greatest guitarist....his guitar was an extension of his arm...alive.
I saw SRV open for Huey Lewis/News as well as before Joe Cocker. People were talking and milling around while those of us there for SRV were not exactly happy. Sad he passed on way too early.
