When I went to see Melissa Manchester in concert a few years back , I had her sign a cd and asked her why this song was not on one of her albums . It was due to a contract dispute with the distributor/ copywriter holder. What a shame . I own the movie and the sheet music . It is one of my all time favorites.

I'd love to have this song by Melissa on cd but unfortunately it's never been available so far. It's beyond me why it couldn't be included on one of her albums.

This is such a great song. I remember Melissa did both songs together at the 1980 Academy Awards (I have the tape somewhere). I searched for years for the song and it is not on any of her albums.

Do you know that Melissa was the performed of two of the Oscar nominated songs en 1979? The other song was "Theme from Ice Castles (Looking Throug The Eyes of Love)", a big hit. Oustanding performances!!. I can't believe that she lost to "It Goes Like It Goes" from "Norma Rae", performed by Jennifer Warnes.

Melissa Manchester never recorded this song on any of her albums. Only the soundtrack (only available on LP) contains this song. There are several other versions of the song though (Debby Boone, Maureen McGovern, Rosemary Clooney).

This wonderful song has nearly been forgotten of late and it's one of the songwriting team's finest. I think perhaps because the film "The Promise" got such terrible reviews in 1980. Rent the movie. The use of this beautiful melody and lyric makes them most cynical heart melt away at the final scene of the film.
