Don't revile the French or the American people, for it was a change to be treated with respect and dignity, and to be thanked by even young French citizens for freeing France of the tyrrany of Nazi-ism. They don't just do this on 60th,65th and other milestone anniversaries, they celebrate their Liberation day every year. Their youths honour their duty to respect those who fought for them, and commemorate those who never returned home to raise families.
Now well into my 80's, I was the only RAF veteran amongst the 150 D-day veterans who who sat behind the podium (the place they spoke from!) that was reserved exclusively for those of us who landed on Omaha Beach. Yes, RAF men barely in their 20's died on Omaha Beach that day. So, SPREAD THE WORD, now that YOU know. I visited their graves in Bayeux last week.
Not one of the speakers, nor even Prince Charles knew that, until I took the opportunity to shake their hand and tell them. (continued)
I think Charles felt so down is because his mother the Queen Elizabeth was snubbed from the Normandy Anniversary. She wasnt invited and England had to send Charles last minute to attend the event to prevent an embarrassment to both sides.

But American troops alone were 73 000. So they still had the largest number of roops on D-Day
