I haven't read all the comments, but am I the only one noticing that the battery is already put into the computer when he finishes installing the ram eventhough he stresses how important it is to remmove it? :)
I just upgraded my T60 from 1GB to 3 GB, using a Corsair 2GB Chip for EUR 35,-
Also thanks to the users who pointed out that it's ok for thinkpads to use different sized RAM chips (in my case a 1GB and a 2 GB module) as long as they have the same MHz, in my case 667. On the biult-in module it said PC2-5300S which was the search string i used when i tried to find a fitting module.
Many thanks! In the moment I ordered a 2 GB ram bar, because with this vdeo I was able to look ab, what I have got inside. I've got one 1 GB bar. Thinkpad T60 is able to manage up to 4 GB in 2 bars and these needn't be the same. So I'll get 3 GB using my old and my new ram.
is this the same for the t43.. i fkd up my laptop on a treadmill... and am considering buying one of these monster machines off of ebay... (i have a ideapad now)
Good vid. Although its funny how the person says to take out the battery before doing anything further, but the next frame has the battery back in again.
Very helpful. No problem following the instructions, but minor differences on my ThinkPad T60. It's made by Lenovo and has 4 screws (not 5) holding the keyboard frame in place. It also never had a guard above the memory sticks. NOTE: keep track of which screws come from which holes. The demonstrator doesn't say to do this until well after you've taken them out. You could confuse them at this point. Mine are all the same length, so it didn't matter, but it could.
Thanks for the video! I just got my new memory today and my work actually let me do this myself after convincing them that I wouldn't screw it up, and it went perfect!
I followed these steps and nearly broke my touch pad cover. Maybe T60 sold in different countries are not the same? I can't just press down the touchpad cover at the lower side, if I push it too hard it will break the little slots at the lower side. I have to slightly fit the slots and pull the upper side to the right place. It took me about an hour. What a frustrating experience.
Thanks for this, I am ordering new RAM upgrades soon for my T60, and this helped me understand how to change it out successfully. Thank you for taking time to make this video.
Video is ok but info about which screws you have to take out is useless. There are icons next to screws indicating what the screw is holding and thats what you should know.
Also be sure to consult the manual - this process is covered with illustrations for every step
I totally agree. The holes are clearly labeled for screws. And the manual does have a lot of good illustrations for replacing the RAM. I just think it's good to see someone performing an upgrade, so that any small issues along the way might be covered in the video.
Good video on replacing the RAM in the Thinkpad T60. However, I would caution against removing that fifth screw whole which is at the top. If you look at the official Lenovo video they only suggest that you remove the four screws. The only reason I caution against moving that top fifth screw is that you run the risk of moving the keyboard around which is difficult to realign properly. Other than that nice video :)
Yes the 5th screw (the one almost underneath the trackpoint) only secures the keyboard. You only need to remove it if, like me, you had to replace your keyboard.

come on, man...if you continued on and completed your thoughts and listed which screw does NOT need to be taken out, then i would not have to ask you,
" which screw does NOT have to be taken out."

Worth mentioning is that, XP only supports 3GB of RAM.
This often leaves you with a max of 2GB (2x1GB) because you are supposed to have sticks of the same type and spec.
According to Lenovo however, as long as the speed is the same (667mgz max), you can mix sticks, i.e. have a 1GB and a 2GB stick.

I agree with you there. IBM are really mean taking away the little coloured bits!
Windows XP is also more stable on my T41 than my new T60.
The T60, obviously, has the edge on performance!
