You can tweek the sounds with some internal pot's. I have never tried that my self. I just read it some where.

Do you know if anyone has figured out how to externaly program one of these so you dont have to listen to the presets?

I think, in general it should be possible to trigger them from external sources - with trigger signals. But I don't know it exactly.
