It got Republic into a little trouble with the censors even the kids wouldn't have noticed it. Kay Aldridge wore a split skirt in the sequel. One of the better Republic serials, it was the first to be re-released to theaters in the late Forties. It spawned a sequel, Perils of Nyoka, and a comic book.
Where were those damned censors, when tons of really filthy movies were produced, not only since 60's craziness, but even before. Why female smoking was promoted in many movies? It's one of the most nauseous things. But tobacco companies wanted more profits and bribed those censors.
So Kay Aldridge worn those stupid clunky culottes, what she personally hated. So-o-o-o beautiful woman shouldn't wear such unfitting costume, what downgrades her heroic image.
NORMAL kids pay no attention on such costumes. For them "sex" is same non-existant as life on Mars. In my childhood I had really wide circle of interests - from photonic rockets and tokamaks till yachts and exotic flowers, but I have never even peeped in locker room - it was so dull and uninteresting.
Those censors saw lewdnes in relatively pure films and vice versa, really FILTHY and UGLY films passed through all the censure.

I watched this on a kiddie show in NY ,Channel 5, early 1960's, Fred Hall Show: I just got the entire thing,remastered on DVD, from amazon.com
