Did you know that in my urban Canadian ER between 70 and 90% of our friday/saturday admissions are due to drugs/alcohol? I doubt a single person you treated was in there for mdma or cannabis. The majority of people you treat for drugs are opiate and amphetamines addicts. Not to mention that the only reason why these drugs aren't safe is because of their legal status. If sold legally people would know the strength of the drug and would not accidentally take too much. I've seen MDMA cardiac arrhythmias, a young girl who had a myocardial infarction after 3 MDMA hits, Multiple MDMA seizures, lots of people come in having panic attacks related to MDMA, someone attempted suicide while coming down from MDMA, and MDMA causes hyponatremia (low blood sodium) - which results in the need to hypertonic sodium chloride infusion. Cannabis is fairly benign, I can't I've ever seen it result in ED admission.

Actually it's not harder to get illegal drugs just as it wasn't any harder to obtain alcohol during the prohibition. It's always been easier for me to get illicit drugs than alcohol and tobacco, ever since I was 14 I've had access to plenty of drugs namely weed and mdma and I'm not some wigger low life, I'm currently studying law and throughout school I was always a high achiever.
If drugs were legal a significant number of lives would be saved.

As suggested, that probably would have been a better slogan but I actually thought they did a pretty good job of these adds. I believe that Marijuana needs to be decriminalized but Schedule 1 drugs need to stay illegal. Cannabis has many known medical benefits as well as many potential health benefits if given the right research and funding but those that smoke marijuana every day are not likely to be productive members of society with or without the drug.
I get heaps down on depression when I smoke a lot of weed, I feel like im alone and no one is there for me and shit, BUT this is my fault. Not the drug, If I choose my choose of drug examples...(Drinking) or (Smoking) or (weed) ect. I must be sensible with it and use it at appropriate times. Its the person who uses the drug, not the drug.
The Australian Government message is true though. You don't know what it will do to you! Different drugs affect everyone differently.Some people may develop psychosis or be predisposed to schizophrenia after taking a "soft drug" like weed, some may be fine unless they start smoking daily.

I take drugs and i think these ads are pretty good. Repetitions are always a basis for any kind of advertisement, and the point they're making is simply that people don't really know what they're getting with most drugs. This of course is a flawed and circular logic, if drugs were legalized people would know what they were taking and everything would be regulated, but anyway there are much worse anti-drug ads than this one.
The government is right in saying what they are saying here about all these drugs, though i tend to disagree with the marijuana side of things.. As a sufferer of epilepsy this is my best form of medication to keep me seizure free, I'd so love it if our government started thinking about the good things marijuana can do for individuals in moderation, before our shitty government and the rest wipe this medical marvel of the plant..

While I don't like fear tactic that the commercials use (and yes, I had to see them because I live in Australia) it's far more effective than someone lecturing to you about its negative effects. I doubt a single person you treated was in there for mdma or cannabis. The majority of people you treat for drugs are opiate and amphetamines addicts. Not to mention that the only reason why these drugs aren't safe is because of their legal status. If sold legally people would know the strength of the drug and would not accidentally take too much. Imagine if alcohol was illegal and unlabelled, deaths would rise as people have no idea what they're drinking.

@wayzey On the contrary! MDMA is a HUGE issue. I've seen MDMA cardiac arrhythmias, a young girl who had a myocardial infarction after 3 MDMA hits, Multiple MDMA seizures, lots of people come in having panic attacks related to MDMA, someone attempted suicide while coming down from MDMA, and MDMA causes hyponatremia (low blood sodium) - which results in the need to hypertonic sodium chloride infusion. Cannabis is fairly benign, I can't I've ever seen it result in ED admission.

Actually it's not harder to get illegal drugs just as it wasn't any harder to obtain alcohol during the prohibition. It's always been easier for me to get illicit drugs than alcohol and tobacco, ever since I was 14 I've had access to plenty of drugs namely weed and mdma and I'm not some wigger low life, I'm currently studying law and throughout school I was always a high achiever.
If drugs were legal a significant number of lives would be saved.

In Canada obtaining alcohol or tobacco is as easy as driving 2 blocks to the local liquor store - and paying with cash or plastic. You can even find the store on google! Obtaining illegal drugs involves finding a dealer, arranging to meet, paying cash, etc.

@Ctr393 No they don't. There are different types of psychedelics, namely serotonin 5-HT2A receptor agonists, NMDA antagonists, serotonin releasers and CB-1 cannabinoid receptor agonists.
No psychedelic can "mess" with your nervous system and muscles, you're thinking about amphetamines which are stimulants of which only MDMA and MDA have anything in common with psychedelics. Most psychedelics are completely harmless and even those which are dangerous are still a thousand times safer than cars.

Read the first few pages of websites and learn a little, not all will be 100% correct but a lot will. Also check out the work being done in Spain. They are doing cancer treatments with cannabinoids (compounds found in marijuana) on human subjects that have brain cancer and guess what IT CURES IT! As suggested, that probably would have been a better slogan but I actually thought they did a pretty good job of these adds. I believe that Marijuana needs to be decriminalized but Schedule 1 drugs need to stay illegal. Cannabis has many known medical benefits as well as many potential health benefits if given the right research and funding but those that smoke marijuana every day are not likely to be productive members of society with or without the drug.

The Australian Government message is true though. You don't know what it will do to you! Different drugs affect everyone differently.Some people may develop psychosis or be predisposed to schizophrenia after taking a "soft drug" like weed, some may be fine unless they start smoking daily.
Their message is correct, its not worth the risk. I have seen all these scenarios in their adds from drug use and a lot more/been in them myself.... YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT WILL DO TO YOU!

drugs affect people differently... a person i knew did weed for years..then smoked some hydro and completely lost it.. now he is in a mental institution and thinks hes is a cups full of water. if you try and get close to him he freaks out cause he thinks hes going to spill some water...im 19 and have done weed bout 5 time in my life. the last time i did it, i had a bad trip that lasted for days..i slowly came back to normal but still feel abit werid sometimes. im never doing that shit again

I take drugs and i think these ads are pretty good. Repetitions are always a basis for any kind of advertisement, and the point they're making is simply that people don't really know what they're getting with most drugs. This of course is a flawed and circular logic, if drugs were legalized people would know what they were taking and everything would be regulated, but anyway there are much worse anti-drug ads than this one.

Drugs have different effects on different people and the results can not be accurately predicted. Ergo, you don't know what it will do to you. While I don't like fear tactic that the commercials use (and yes, I had to see them because I live in Australia) it's far more effective than someone lecturing to you about its negative effects.
