@KurtSandford Not true at all! You just have to practice like a true musician, with firm routine and unrelenting commitment (and a lot of time). Amazing talent is the result of disciplined and focused study of a given pursuit. People are capable of so much more than most people understand, not grasping the journey it takes to get there.
Jeff, you are an inspiration man. I had just seen one of your videos two weeks prior to attending Victor Wooten's bass nature camp. Then as we're approaching the pavilion for one of the specials as they were called, I see you standing there. Your performance blew me away, definitely one of the top three moments of the week. Thank you for what you do man and keep it up! You give aspiring young bass players like myself a reason to keep on thumping!
What is it exactly that you do when you bring your right hand to your left like you do at the end? I've seen it your other videos, but done not quite so delicately as in this one. What's that technique called? It's fascinating.
at the end I arpeggiate a chord with hammer ons. the only way to play all the notes is to play some with my right hand over the top of the finger board and use my left hand to fill in the others and my left hand thumb to strum the final chord.
not a mistake in playing, but he skips an entire section of the song - probably only noticeable to those familiar with the recorded version of the song
One of my favorite songs from Outre. Truly a work of genius, like every other track on that CD. One of the best buys of my life. Keep up the awesome work!
You're a musical genius, so creative! And the end result... well... this here is a great example of Jeff Schmidt. It's a memorizing style you got there.
I've watched lot's of bassists.... most of them... you are truly unique. It's like you have a blend of all the greats in you.
You are a god amongst men.

Good song. Like the video's tags, too.

Definitely my favorite solo bassist! I mean including Victor Wooten and all of those cats too.

100% agree, and in all honesty, not a huge Wooten fan, good player and all, just not a fan of the style, too fast and just vicious on the bass.

For some reason the video is not playing - click WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY and it works.

its still awesome, though!

actually yes - the bottom string popped out from under the capo so I had to re-seat the capo so all strings were depressed.
Good catch!

Is that an MTD Heir? How does it play? I am going to be purchasing an MTD Artist-5 soon, do you suggest it?
And incredibly playing, by the way
Feuerfrei715 3 years ago
It's an MTD 535 American. It plays awesome.
I'm not really familiar with the other MTD models enough to comment.

Absolutely fantastic playing! Loving your solo album Outre. Highly recommended for those of you who've yet to hear it...

Your tuning is really high
and on a bass, it has the bass feel but the sound of a completely different instrument.
you've created your own instrument..
sweet
