  • ted performed this on his shake the sheets tour. saw him in SF and LA, and it was much more punk than this performance. he had the entire hall on its feet, jumping up and down to this.

  • Sorry...@my Teh gabe

  • @alexsweely...who. is chris Leo? Ted's younger brother. He started the van pelt and the lapse.

  • you suck

  • Love it or hate it, either way nobody cares 'bout that novel you wrote on why you hate (or love) it...

  • this and ben gibbard's cover of avril lavigne's complicated are the two greatest covers of all time

  • This is seriously terrible. You people will call anyone who isn't a popstar a 'genius'.

  • i show this to everyone because i believe ted to be a fucking genius.

    that is all.

  • way to represent Notre Dame, Stanford Hall!

  • @SomecallmeLuke Stanford Hall! Go Studs!

  • ted leo is fucking unstoppable

  • I rarely judge other's music negatively, because it is their expression and I find that beautiful. But, WOW, that was really horrible. If you watch Ted's own reaction at the end of the vid you will see that he looks like he feels the same way. i did not feel any emotion or presence in this cover at all. Yuck.

  • awesome - i love imperfect vocals with awesome guitar and intelligence

  • ugh...i dont like this at all! you just sound bad...

  • he should've veered away from the high notes...

  • @MNskating lol right!

  • @MNskating That's his trademark as a male singer actually... check out "Where Have all the Rude Boys Gone" for a better example. Not a bad cover, just not as good as his catalog.

  • I'm honestly for positive feedback and comments but that honestly wasn't great, I mean yeah great vocal range but when he goes high, it isn't the greatest sounding.

  • nice cover!

  • @jbroeska your gonna die because you dont believe in the power of punk. it happend to teddy punk star after he turned into teddy rock star. trust me it happens

  • 105 people have ear aids

  • very cool mash up ted! you should try this with karl this month. the clarkson hit is a good song, the original is just too overproduced.

  • this is a good song, the original is just too overproduced.

  • hey amazing

  • falsetto? hmm...interseting ted, im not sure if i love this or hate it haha ill go with i thinks it decent although maps was epic =)

  • falsetto? hmm...interseting ted, im not sure if i love this or hate it haha ill go with i thinks it decent

  • This is great how he can change just a thing into THE THING

  • This is fanfuckingtastic and will reside on my playlist forever. He did Karen justice and thats a hard thing to do!

  • this is amazing!! i love you Ted!!!! =D

  • @alexameade,

You are? Nice of you to come out on this video.

  • he scares me

  • Ted if you ever read these... This is the first real heartfelt thing i've heard all day. Keep on keeping on.

  • Ted Leo is possibly the manliest man ever after this.

  • Ted Leo always sings in a falsetto and he keeps his lips from touching to avoid for instance making hard "T" sounds. This really is how he sings people. I dunno what else to tell you.

  • didn't like it at all. and don't say "well it's hard for a guy to sing that high". you can sing it in a lower octive. that's how you sing - you adjust the song to match your voice. he refused to sing in a lower octive, making his voice sound horrible.

  • @MatMorrisInGermany You're an idiot. I bet you couldn't even attempt to sing that high.

  • @RaccoonSnunkWolf1011 Well, like I said - I don't need to. And also. I can go higher. Hater alert

  • @MatMorrisInGermany yes, that's how *you* sing. this is how ted leo sings. he's got his style and you don't have to like it if you don't want to.

  • @ScarreCrow

exactly. i don't like it. that was the point of me commenting.

  • @MatMorrisInGermany and the point of my commenting was that you shouldn't tell someone how to sing just because it's a different style.

  • What's the difference? "Since U Been Gone" ripped off "Maps".

  • @UR55378008 Untrufax.

  • @palax1234

wow, go fuck yourself. No words can describe how ignorant your comment was. How about you post a video when you get a talent and then people can criticize it.

  • @palax1234 DOUCHEBAG

  • Yuck, to think this guy is Chris Leo's older brother.

  • @alexsweeley who the fuck is chris leo?

  • Comment removed

  • somehow he looked different in my thoughts haha

  • just ignore the voice for a second that guitar solo was amazing he is an amazing guitar player

  • Is it just me, or does Ted Leo look a little bit like Steve from Blue's Clues?

  • Here's the thing: Fuck this song Fuck Kelly Clarkson! But TED RULES!

  • Haters gonna hate, I don't care, this rules :)

  • This was really bad. And it wasn't a mix. It was two separate covers. And the transition between the two was absolute shit. Sorry.

  • Ted Leo FTMFW

  • Yes I love this I heard this on an Alternative Radio station like 5 or six years and I've been looking for it ever since and now I've finally found it. Nice. Ted Leo is awesome.

  • i didnt love this the first time i heard it, but i was still interested in ted leo and downloaded hearts of oak, loved it, came back here, and love this version. his voice takes a little getting used to is all

  • You might just be the love of my life, Ted Leo.

  • that was really bad

  • @luckyoshady it was sick, ted leo is so much better than kelly clarkson. He is 40 years old, and still pumping out great music. he may not have as much money as her, and may not be as famous, but he still has a better musical background.

  • not horrific, the voice does break a few times, but otherwise its good

  • i thought the combination would actually...combine both songs instead of going from one to the other. it's basically just him singing since u been gone and then doing the right progressions into maps...and then back into since you been gone kind of abruptly. he plays and sings both songs well, but this isn't an impressive or creative mashup.

  • vocals= not good/=

  • @BitterGeoff You are so wrong.

  • @nateswhore nah bro, he coulda done alot better. he was barely on key.

  • NUTS2U.

  • @serbwithblade he just sings kinda high

  • Verse chords: G major to e-minor (little chromatic thing on the low E string there)

    Chorus chords: Bm - C - G (Bm - C is a quick change) x 2

    Then: Em - C - G - Am - Em - D

For the Since U Been Gone part, at least.

  • um... repeat?

  • Can somebody post the chord progression.

    Please?

  • this is great.

  • He's been around since the early nineties. He had an amazing band called Chisel that put out 2 phenomenal records....check out "8 am All Day" , it's so much better than anything he's done w/ the pharmacists

  • kickass cover of maps

  • lolz at 0:47

  • xD right right xDD hahaha

  • You do know that not long before this was recorded Ted had major surgery on his vocal chords, right? dumbfuck

  • @negatyve Why did he have surgery? Would it be possible because of a condition and he just happened to end up with this voice after?... and what does it matter really? Music is not voice only, if it were that easy then there would be so many more artists, It's also rhythm/tempo, pitch (being able to have complete control over it) and more... so -YOU- are the dumbfuck to think that surgery on vocals is the -only- thing that can make a normal person into a singer/star... Get a life and quit hating

  • kelly clarksons sucks but yeah yeah yeahs pwn

  • Why isn't this guy famous yet?

  • He's definitely getting there. The first time I saw his band perform was about 7 years ago, just before Hearts of Oak came out and the venue had about 30 people in it. The last Ted Leo show I went to was packed elbows to asses in a much larger venue.

Besides, who needs fame when you're the hardest working man in indie rock. If he doesn't tour your area more than twice a year, you probably live in the Alaskan wild.

  • - _ - He is famous..

  • This is awesome.

  • I met Ted once. Really really nice guy. Even for being road weary.

  • Power wise, his high notes were fine. If you were looking for criticism, you could probably latch on to the lack of clarity and point out that it's obvious he's pushing his limits, but overall, it was quite good especially for a guy and he had a ton of fun right along with his fans doing it.

And isn't that what music should be about?

  • TED LEO IS THE MAN!!!

  • There's only one reason Ted Leo would sing "Since U Been Gone," and that's to make this point. There's always a connection with Ted...rock on

  • awesome

  • i don't think anyone took riffs from another nor is he trying to prove something. the songs are just in the same key. nice guitar playing

  • Nice job. This is good.

  • hes married you idiot

  • That takes an incredible set of man-pipes to reach those octaves... Wow!

    I really liked this cover!

  • It's Kelly Clarkson's song writers that took the guitar riff from the yeah yeah yeahs!!! I think he is trying tp prove something here! props to you Ted!

    Find the connection people! ;)

  • Winner

  • A bit annoying if you ask me

  • yeah taylor!

  • The Maps part sounded funny :/ not bad exactly, but not quite right either :S

The Since U Be Gone part was no worse than the original, but then, I hate that song...

  • Ted Leo is my pharmacist. Hooks me up, too.

  • Dumb comment. Also, he's edge I'm pretty sure.

  • no one believe's you

  • he is my cousin.

  • he should've droped it an octave. this version wasn't terrible but if he would've droped it then this could've actually been a decent sounding song.

  • Sure;y you mean a STEP. Your music nomenclature is lacking.

  • no, i mean octave.

  • Octaves have nothing to do with speed.

  • A Day To Remember's version... the best.

  • he can go soo high!

  • i suppose its alright

but doesn't come close to kelly's original

  • original? you've got a funny definition of the word.

  • original as in Ted Leo's version he did originally. Shows how smart you are.

  • I was replying to musicguyxxx's comment that Kelly's song was original. Since I doubt she wrote it, and it sounds like every other pop song ever made.

And Ted Leo's video might be original, but by no definition of the word can performing a cover a song be called 'original.'

  • Ted Leo is an amazing musician. So what if his voice cracks. Give him a break. He made a bunch of punks like this song despite hating both the bands it was originally from. Ted Leo kicks ass. Plus its funny to see that some "old" dude can make a pop song better than the originals. More evidence of his insane talent.

  • ted leo rules FUCK THE HATERS

  • The original musician sucked and she didn't falsetto. The entire thing sounded like she had a chest cold.

  • he's definitely awesome!

  • Ted Leo Rocks!

  • give him a break sheesh, its not that easy for a guy to sing that high, plus he did it knowing it would be youtubed and knowing all the youtube fags would hassle him about it. at least he has the balls to do something different

  • @hock3ydud3

When you said sing "high" I thought you meant that it's hard to sing after smoking a huge bowl. It makes sense because he must be wicked high to do this.

  • @hock3ydud3

    Or lack thereof.

    Heheheh.

  • ITS JUST A COVER. WHATS THE MATTER?

    get real!

  • Butch does it better.

  • this vid reminds me of this time when I was waiting outside the venue at a los campesinos concert freezing my ass off and someone started playing a thousand miles on the synth. it was pretty hardcore.

  • are u for real?is it a joke?get a grip dude, ted leo is the man, this is a great cover with a little bit of maps thrown in for the chorus, its fucking ace,and your a jerk if you seriously think its a joke,go and listen to something homo like the jonas faggotts.ted leo is a legend

  • hilarious, because the first time i heard "since u been gone" i was like ".... WAAAAAIt this sounds JUST like maps!"

looks like i'm not the only one to notice!

  • ADTR > Ted Fucking Leo

  • Pretty damn Kool Aid!

  • I think he transposes intensity to an octave shift. He didn't needn't to go that high. With that in mind I would sing this in a lower key or , just drop the thing a whole octave vocally. Awesome though man. Since you been gone/maps nice

  • hahahahaahaha brilliant!

  • haha funny high notes :] awesome, otherwise

  • high notes are a little rough, but i like the song mix. it makes an interesting song progression.

  • ALRIGHT!!!

  • Aww, I was hoping it'd be Maps mixed with Since You Been Gone by Rainbow. That'd be the ultimate song. Oh well

  • HOW DARE YOU SIR!!!!

  • wat.

  • he actually mixed 2 songs, maps is by the yeah yeah yeahs,ya docuhe....

  • oh man. i am so in love with him.

  • Comment removed

  • poor adjective. Limited vocabulary?

  • gooooood

  • one badass gutiar player

  • Ha I so know what you mean. Just dumb generic hardcore with poppy vocals.

  • Yeah. Thats opinionated.

I think its better than Kelly Clarkson...

    ...or this for sure. =/

  • well, yeah its an opinion!

  • This song is haunting my dreams. I seriously can't stop hearing it in my head since I first watched this video.

  • it is soooo fast but normaly it is cool but can you record it slower, maybeBut it is cool

    .

  • I really don't like kelly clarkson... but seeing as Ted Leo is a GOD, this song isn't bad anymore.

Totally beats the a day to remember cover.

  • LOL! GOOD

  • look up A Day To Remember

  • I'm pretty much addicted to this video

Leo and The Pharmacists are amazing live.
