  • My parents use to listen to this when I was a small child. It brings back so many memories of how things were then. Simple

  • Loved this one too.

  • I fell in Love with my first Love with this Song. Just Lovely!

  • love it and also Roger Miller's version!

  • I translated this song into Portuguese. Take a look at it in my channel!

  • herd this in the post office yesterday standing in a long line. now i can't get it out of my head. lol. but the real question is why did't god make little green apples ? lol

  • OMG! That song carries aSentimental Memories for me.. My all Time Fave

  • You can call some songs awesome, some songs you can call great, but, very few make it into this category.........simply, ..."timeless"

  • This was a very comforting peaceful song in very ugly turbulent days... Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King assassinations, Vietnam war, Chicago riots, Richard Speck mass murder, Zodiac killer, etc.

  • I love this song! Hearing the music and lyrics brings me such calmness about life. Funny, I was only three when this song came out; for some odd reason, hearing it brings a unique profoundness.

  • A song of 1968.

  • The Dionne Warwick version is pure beauty, but it's not on here

  • za ovo treba imat što kažu neki - dušu

  • written by kenny rogers

  • @dimpsey3 Really?

  • @Classiccountryfan1 YES ITS TRUE MY FRIEND.. i didnt believe it either..and its still hard to believe.kenny wrote alot of good country songs that he didnt record himself..this song here is a country tune with RnB sound, melody and flow.its diffrent from the rest of country songs.thats why its hard to tell its a country song.the way O.C sings it.the wy Kenny wrote it and its melody..

  • In 1969 I was a young Marine at a USO show at Freedom Hill (some of you guys remember the place) Quang Tri Province South Vietnam and the most beautiful round eyed girl I had ever seen pulled me upon stage to sing (mostly drool) this song with her.

  • Romeo, I know without a shadow of doubt that I would take your call even though I was busy at home & I would meet you anywhere to grab a bite to eat. I would drop what I'm doing and I would greet you with a smile. That is loving you hunny. I would give your hand a squeeze and I would look into your eyes and they would tell you how much I do love you too. Our life would have been but now will be so beautiful when we finally do get together. I look forward to that day. (Sigh too) J.

  • j i want you to know that i always pictured our life just the way he sings it our life would have been so beautiful and i know you would love me like this i love you like this i will always love you i am yours you have always had my heart (sigh) R.

  • I can't remember half the songs I grew up with, and yes, you do have to love this one. I like a lot of the 50's and 60's music, and some 70's too. They just don't make music like this anymore!

  • How do you come up with these songs, well," I thank god for you"!!!

  • @lanieTmarshall lol..well i was raised with all of this music..gotta love it :)

  • There's no such thing as make-believe, puppy dogs, autumn leaves, and bb guns

  • I'm a Vietnam Vet (68-69)..and yes this was a tear jerker for the men that those stupid ladies that sent "Dear Johns"..I sent a "Dear Jane" letter to my college sweetheart to avoid it..One of my men got one and immediately requested to go on our next mission...those stupid non caring bitches...f---ed up a lot of the men..Like they say "Those were times that tried mens souls"

  • @lnefouse You sent her a "Dear Jane" letter after you were gang raped in the barracks at Fort Dix and than got addicted to gang banging.

  • @lnefouse that sucks to get that out in the world let alone there but thank you for your service

  • First time I've ever paid attention to the words. So beautiful!

  • This used to be my mom's favorite song...RIP mama I love you and miss you very much

  • a classic song. by a classic singer. i was in the 5th grade, april 1968 when this hit came out.

  • "god didn't make little green apples and it don't rain in indianapolis in the summertime. there's no such thing as dr. seuss, disneyland, mother goose, there's no nursery rhymes." gawd, you have to love those words. so sweet.

  • One of the most beautiful sounds ever made............simply beautiful!

  • i've always loved this song. so sweet.

  • Soulful song! Sometimes great tunes are like invisible butterflies that a fortunate person/singer just happens to gently catch and goes on a ride since they were made for each other. OC Smith and this song are still breezing by in the sky of memory. thanks for posting NY... beautiful. And to the commenters here, i hear ya all....

  • Just the first few notes on the piano of this song start the tears welling up in my eyes! Then O.C. starts to sing and no matter where I am, I start to bawl like a baby! This is one of the first songs that I heard in Viet Nam, it brings back many memories, both good and bad. If you want to see a bunch of grown men cry, play this song around of Viet Nam Vets that are my age! Especially those that got 'Dear John' Letters like me around that time!!!

    UnIndio

  • I'm so sorry to hear that...I REALLY AM! god bless u..

  • @UnIndio What's a "Dear John Letter"?

  • @UnIndio Welcome home..I had a couple of Vietnam vets welcome me home when the USS Eisenhower stopped in Port Everglades, FL in mid 1991, and have returrned the favor to every vet I've seen since...no matter how each campaign turned out, all vets are heroes in my book, even though they'd never consider themselves that way...

    Don

    US Navy (Retired)

  • @UnIndio Co-sign to the first two sentences! I'm actually crying right now.

  • @UnIndio Thank you for your service. I'm thankful you came back, but sorry you had to go over there.

  • @UnIndio God bless you and keep you my brother...

  • @UnIndio MY DAD WS THERE ... AND I LOVE THIS SONG .. HE SAID EVERYTIME HE HEARD THIS .. HE KEPT HIS SANITY BECAUSE HE HAD 4 LILTTLE KIDS HOME AND WANTED TO LIFE TO SEE THEM AGAIN HE .....HE CAME HOME ... I LOVE HIM
